Life just seems a little better with friends you can count on! That makes them special to me. Sounds cheesy huh....
Alternatively I always enjoy eating a whole tub of ice cream by myself but I get even sadder once it finishes. :(

Alfred, where do you come up with all those "rocks related" puns? I think it's the best thing of the blog, also considering the originality and the art of it!

Puns r my lyf. I breathe and eat puns.
Also what art??

Hello there! First to the mun: I really adore the way you draw Alfred, and your style of adding him and other characters to real-life situations! I love this blog, keep it up!! Second, both to the mun and the muse: Do you have any tips on starting/having a career in geology? I've always wanted to go into science, and geology seems like the best option for me, currently! I'm just about to graduate high school, and I'm not sure where to go... I would greatly appreciate the help! Thank you!
((Hi!! Mun’s just going to respond this herself, entirely.uvu;;
Thank you so much, I’m honestly glad you like this blog! ;o;
Ok phew, geology encompasses a broad scope of disciplines tobe honest. Firstly there are many fields a geologist can specialize in likesedimentology, geochemistry, geophysics, seismology, hydrogeology, etc. Manyindustries value specialists, so later in your undergraduate studies it’s agood idea to think about what you’re really interested in while consideringwhere your strengths and weaknesses lay. If you’re more mathematically-inclined rather than having a strong sense of visuals - especially in 3D - you might consider geophysics rather than geology, for example.
A lot of people end up working at some point in the Energy(both renewable and non-renewable) and Natural Resources sectors. The oil andgas industries are popular because they do generate a lot of income (and withthe prospect of fossil fuel depletion, they probably need more capable EarthScientists to work on sustainably managing/extracting resources), though of coursethis is contingent on how well the oil supply meets demands. Mining is anotherpopular choice among geologists. You’ll be a key part in exploration and determining whether the site’s ore supply is of good economical value.
However, I am aware of the stigma that drips from theseoccupations because of the unfortunate disasters resulting fromendeavors to extract resources. If you’re feeling a little greener, try lookinginto hydrogeology (managing the groundwater supply – very important!),environmental geology, and risk management, where your knowledge of Earth’sbehavior really helps insurance companies budget their disaster plans – and,ultimately, save lives! (I feel that’s quite Alfred-ite.) You may find yourselfworking in environmental consultancy and law. People value your knowledge inearth dynamics to help mitigate environmental issues!
There are so many practical paths in a geologist’s career, Ithink, and I can’t really touch on everything in full detail without writing awhole essay. I want to say that a lot of the exciting geology also occur inacademics and research. You might want to pursue a PhD inpaleontology/paleoecology etc. if you’re really into unraveling Earth’s lifehistory, or look into the roots of climate change or planetary sciences, and soon. Survey geologists work for the government to collect geological data, though often requires PhD-level study.
Uhh, hopefully I’ve managed to sketch out someideas on what a geologist could do. Generally, people with geological careerstravel around a lot and have dynamic working regimes with mixtures of officeand field work. It’s ideal for people who like variation and don’t mind moving around a lot, exerting substantial physical strength/stamina at times. I guess this is also why I thought Alfred would be suitable as a geologist. Here are some sites that explain the options better than Icould. If anyone would like to add something, feel free to leave a message!
Andfinally, whether or not you end up choosing geology, I hope it’s a path youtruly enjoy. :-) ))

Your friends seem pretty cool! Is there anyone you would say is your best friend? How about anyone else taking Geology?
Tumblr media
But well, I’m lucky to live with those I feel closest with at the moment. :) Or maybe we grew close because we live together?
And as for my geology friends- don’t worry, I got plenty of those too!

I think your photos are from the Natural History Museum, not "National" History Museum. I may be completely wrong and you're at a different museum, but some of those scenes look very familiar. If it's the one in London it's the Natural History Museum
DAMN I must have spaced out while I typed the description. Thanks for telling me- it's now corrected!

Visited the Natural History Museum with the dorm mates! I loved every bit of it, though I did spend much longer going through the minerals section (much to Kiku’s and Artie’s inconvenience… oops!).

What do you do in your spare time?
I usually hang with my friends and dorm mates. I game a lot. It doesn’t really help when your roomie happens to be a gamer, too…

I also work out/play sports and during the weekends I try to make time to explore parts of London I haven’t been to!

alfred!!!! how big is your rock collection? What are some of your favorites/most prized ones?
Tumblr media
I tend to dig those with bright-colored minerals (like the delicious rainbow quartz) or euhedral crystals on them! For example, one of the oldest in my collection is a little pyrite rock:

Like?? It’s so perfect? Mother Nature is an artist. I named this one Picasso (because of, you know… cubism). B)
