This amazing woman is celebrating her birthday today. Grandma Joyce is a quiet force of nature. Her love for her family, her faith, and her compassionate heart are all things I try to emulate daily. I am so grateful for her prayers over my life and her constant encouragement. I was able to stay with her this summer for a few days and I feel so fortunate to have gotten to sit and talk with her - just the two of us. The kitchen is finished! Check out those before pictures! It was dark, enclosed, and almost cave-like. A few years and a lot of work, we’re finally at the finish line with a bright and open living space! ❤️ Mom and Dad Leinbach, Uncle Glenn, Eric Gongwer, and Josh have gone above and beyond to create this amazing space. In 2018, this house was one big project. Since then, we’ve tackled almost the entire thing! It has truly become our dream home with this kitchen as the focal point. February 23, 2019 ❤️ A couple of weeks ago, my students and I were chatting and one of them just casually mentioned that Josh and I were “goals.” That is maybe the most beautiful compliment I’ve ever received. I am blessed beyond measure by this man’s willingness to walk beside me, grow with me, and to love me every day. Especially when seasons of life are tough to even crawl through. To ring in the new year, Josh and Crystal surprised me with one of the very best things ever: Crystal’s presence. I haven’t seen this woman in person for…. 4-5 years? She was in my house!!!!!! We didn’t do lots of activities, but we saw some good movies, TV, and football. She met my husband for the first time, and got LOTS of kisses from two giant dogs. She is another part of my heart. She has helped me grow into who I am. She has loved me and supported me through so much, and words can’t adequately describe my gratitude for her. Honestly, I wasn’t really looking forward to the start of a new year, and I’m still in a weird place about it… But spending New Years weekend with Crystal, Josh, and the pups made it so special. My grandad was a pretty special man. He was brilliant, funny, compassionate, always had a great story to tell, and ALWAYS had a perfect hug to give. He worked in petroleum engineering, restored Corvettes, played golf, rode Harleys, loved shopping, enjoyed video games, and cared for stray animals whenever he found them. He teased us, played with us, and made sure he knew how much he loved us. He would have loved seeing the four cousins together planning a cabin getaway, and he would have loved the stories his friends and daughters told as we laughed together. I’m so grateful my sister took a few photos of me in his vest and shared the photo of him as a little kid. I’m so grateful he and Melanie came all the way out for our wedding. I’m so grateful for how he poured into my life from the day I was born. I’m so grateful for the example of joy and humor he and our Gram were as I was growing up. They taught me that fun is one of the most important components of a marriage. Junie B. First picture is very recent, last picture is our first one together ever. On Oct. 5, 2014, I drove to Valpo to meet a dog I saw on the Internet. She was unsure, I was not. @giantpawprints_rescue told me they found her wandering around Michigan City all alone. She was skittish and skinny… clearly had experienced some unkind humans… That was it. She was mine. She’s a weird pup… she won’t go into basements unless they’re fully finished, she allows you to hug her, she loves to give little nose kisses, she purrs, and she yells at the TV a lot! When Josh proposed and I had the ring on my finger, Junie softly nibbled it- like she was giving her approval. I’m sure she loves Josh even more than she loves me now ❤️ She is my best friend. She makes me feel better, she can calm me down, she can make me laugh… and I do not take her for granted. She’s 8.5 years old now. I want to cherish every single minute I get with this amazing girl. Last week was the busiest week of the school year for me. School pictures, class- writing sub plans, and homecoming. Before we start a brand new week tomorrow, I just want to say something about my students and my support system. My Publications students are the best humans. They jump in and help me with whatever, whenever. My job would be so much more difficult if these students weren’t around. They don’t just help with the busy stuff, either. They make me laugh, they encourage me, they allow me to encourage them, and they teach me every day to be the best version of myself that I can be. They’re my kids and I love them. If you check out @publicationswchs and see our Saturday Student Spotlight posts, you can see the beautiful faces of these kids who have my heart. Desi and the Blosser’s team, the staff and leadership of my school, my friends who checked in on me, and my sweet husband also helped make last week far less stressful than it could have been. All that to say- I might’ve been tired, and I might’ve been a touch grumpy at the end, but I am so thankful for the last week. What an incredible weekend! Josh had a Tough Mudder in Columbus, so we visited IU ❤️ I showed him all my old haunts. My Lord of the Rings Building, MA404, Showalter Fountain, we laid down at the art museum light tower, we ate Mother Bears, Irish Lion and Runcible Spoon. We got milkshakes at The Chocolate Moose…. What an amazing walk down memory lane. At the Tough Mudder, they weren’t kidding, Josh and crew got so muddy! It was awesome to see them complete all these crazy obstacles in the rain!! I am so thoroughly impressed by them. It was incredible to watch! I had a great time hanging with their daughters and am so grateful to have had such fun spectator buddies ❤️ We finished the weekend with hugs from my favorite family, which is always a balm to my soul. Ali and I have been friends now for about 13 years and that friendship has been one of the biggest joys of my life! A beautiful weekend.
