PSA and SurfToLiveToSurf Present: Surf Etiquette

I went with Paolo on a day trip a few weeks ago with some of his students from SurfCuit training. During our afternoon session, he was able to capture a sequence that we now like to call the perfect example of surf etiquette.

I take off (stance is ick but let’s not focus on that). Aura doesn’t see me and starting popping up.

At this point, Aura has seen me and politely decides to bail off the back of the wave.

  Leaving me to set my line as the wave peels on this cruisy kind of day.

South swell is back on the charts!

These past few weeks, we’ve been scoring lefts big and small. No matter what they say about being a versatile surfer and whatnot, I’ll always favour meeting face to face with the wave the most. It’s something else when I crouch down and stretch out, as my heart and mind inch closer to the curling water; or when I watch my board and fingertips comb through the weaving force of nature before me; and when I know exactly what I want to do with the wave and where I want to be. It’s almost as if I belong; a second nature perhaps; a place I’d rather be.
