i realize i’m describing centuries of operas here but it’s funny how taking a silly and poorly written love story and putting it to music can make it surprisingly affecting
i really hate the notebook movie, i have no intention of reading the novel, and i don’t know when i’ll ever see this thing onstage, but there’s some lovely stuff going on in this score! yay ingrid
i have no hope that i'll like the notebook (musical) all that much but the opening number is nice. this lyric is particularly effective in its simplicity, imo:
"i wanna run like my legs used to run,
i wanna run to you."

the golden questions of dramaturgy should be “why this play now?,” “why this play here?,” and in the case of reviving cabaret on broadway, “why this play again?”
