Are you a fan of Lord of the Rings?

I enjoy the books; they were read to me as a child and were a heavy influence on younger me. Tolkien's love as a writer for the ecology of a world really inspires me.

The animated films have their magic moments; although I've never found Bakshi's rotoscoping compelling, his experimentation, vision, and recent cryptid-like appearances on social media making jokes with goofy stills endear me more as I get older.

These days I've moved from active dislike to ambivalence for Jackson's live action movies (it's called character growth). The complete degree to which they have permeated our imaginings of what Lord of the Rings stories look and feel like pisses me off and saddens me deeply. Even I, who never really dug the films in the first place, have mostly lost my own internal experience of the story, supplanted by his.

I think that's a damn shame, and counter to what makes fantastical fiction interesting. Curious to observe how this all develops as the Jackson films age and new generations come to Tolkien's work.

Just wanted to say I really appreciate Jules! As a trans masc who hasn't gotten to see much representation of our people in the media I really love his character.

A question: do you think Jules is T4T?

And are you writing anything involving him right now?/ Are there any new plans for him in future comics? I would love to see more comic appearances of him, he got so little.

I believe Jules will be showing up in Si Spurrier's Flash annual coming out at the end of the month. And of course getting a short for this year's DC Pride, written by Calvin Kasulke and drawn by Len Gogou. Super stoked to see what they cook up! Definitely support these releases to show DC there's a readership for this character 💚✨⚡

I think connecting the shout bubbles, bacteriophages, and stars with a similar visual language here at the mid-point will help tell the climax of the story in a more compelling way. It shoes how all that is muddied together for D when he's in the alien space.

I do love the last panel here -- "I'm ME-me" with just the indistinguishable feet. Maybe the compromise is using that bubble to cover the face of the fake Quin in the new version.
