Hello, this blog is dedicated to the promotion of better care, breeding, and housing practices and laws when it comes to fish. Our end goal is to promote better education on raising, housing, and caring for fish! This blog is dedicated to the loving memory of all my past fish, including the late Samwise. Questions pertaining to other animals are also welcome.

"Sharks are evil. They all will go after a human if given the chance. We should cull them!!!!"
Meanwhile marine biologists and people with enough common sense to not see Jaws as reality:
Sharks are individuals. Just like any other species

The Wolf Eel

Definitely not one of the beauties of the ocean but a really interesting animal none-the-less. To start off the wolf eel is not a true eel, it is a member of the wolf fish family. If you look closely you will see they have pectoral fins (the ones on the sides) and true eels lack these. They can grow up to a little over 7ft and weigh about 40lb. They are native to the Pacific Ocean, and are typically found in crevices, caves, or in some form of shelter. They have a strong set of teeth for crunching through the shells of crabs, sand dollars, and sea urchins.

Wolf eels are also attentive parents and they mate for life. Females will lay up to 10,000 eggs at a time. She will then wrap her body around the eggs, to shape them into a neat sphere. The male will then wrap his body around the female to protect them.

As juveniles wolf eels are brightly colored, and lack the strong molars adults have so they typically will stick to a diet of fish until they grow in those teeth.

A common problem biologists face in keeping these animals in captivity is making sure to keep giving them a crunchy diet. If wolf eels are not regularly given crunchy foods (crabs, sea urchins, etc.), it will affect their teeth.

Despite their looks and those large, strong teeth, wolf eels are actually known for being gentile and curious. They have also been known to eat out of diver’s hands! Of course you should never actually attempt this becasue it is always better to leave wild animals be!

This photo’s going viral as TERRIFYING SEA MONSTER but it’s actually forced perspective; look at the size of the guy’s hand holding it up! This is a wolf eel, which is actually a shy, sweet animal if you’re not a sea urchin, a clam or a small crab.

They also form monogamous mated pairs for life

This is an aquatic friends appreciation post! Show me all your swimming pets! (Frogs and other amphibians also 10000% welcome)!!!
I'll start!!!

This is Emmett Clara who is turning 3 this year! Her likes are people, playing peekaboo and eating shrimp! This isn't a very good picture of her as she's hard to get pics of as I've read light can hurt an axie's eyes.

This is Smokie! He passed away in 2018. He loved watching CSI, bloodworm treats, and spending time with his loved ones.

These are Igor (larger snail) and Herbie (smaller snail). Igor was a male and Herbie was female (don't remember their species but each came from species that had male/female sexes). They both enjoyed Smokie and being with each other, they often glided around together. They passed away in 2018 (Igor) and 2019 (Herbie).

This is Sam! Sam passed away in 2017. He loved it when people drew on his tank with dry erase markers! He also loved the Garfield Show, his feathered siblings and being with his mommy!

This is Kusdoh! Sadly I didn't have him for maybe a month at most as he got sick and passed away. I had him the first of all the fish on this post.
Some mentions that I don't have pics of:
Nemo the Clownfish who lived to be around 8 years old and was the boss of her aquarium! She loved people and being a queen! ❤
Garfield the Goldfish, Odie the Koi Fish and Pookie the Koi Fish who were all the best of buds!
Swimmy Divers who was the beta my little brother had when he was very young
I haven't had any fish since Smokie passed and I got Emmett. I wouldn't rule out getting another tank and adopting another axie!!

Sea urchins are called “sea urchins” because hedgehogs were called “urchins” until about the 15th century. Therefore, sea urchins are ocean hedgehogs.
