sitting in my room waiting for a friend to pick me up to go bowling and get rolled ice cream. the sunset is subtle, blue and orange and pink and illuminating each thing it hits. i can see the top of a tree with red leaves through my window and the sun hits the leaves in a way that makes them look a little brighter than usual. the dim orange light on the brownstone apartment building across the street is on earlier than usual, and creates an orange light in the corner of my window. the small tree with blooming white flowers is gently swaying in the wind, each movement slower than the last. from my room i can hear the distant sound of my dad’s 80′s rock music playing in the living room, accompanied by the sound of a dog barking in the distance. this is one day, one moment, and yet so much is happening. today is April 22nd, earth day. the earth is beautiful and complex and forever changing. pay attention, protect the earth. appreciate all living and nonliving things.
