"أتعلم، لاتوجد إجابة تفاؤلية حول قسوة هذه الحياة، مهما تحدث الفلاسفة، رجال الدين وعلماء النفس. جوهر هذه الحياة أن لها أجندتها الخاصة ولاتسير كيفما نريد وأن جميعنا سوف ننتهي نهاية سيئة في يوم ما، عاجلاً أم آجلاً. وواجبك كفنان هو أن تشرح للناس لماذا تستحق الحياة أن نعيشها وبأنها شيء إيجابي ذي معنى. الآن، لايمكنك فعل هذا حقاً دون أن تخدعهم، لايمكنك أن تكون صريحاً لأن الحقيقة هي أن الحياة عديمة المعنى. أنت تعيش في كون عشوائي بلا معنى، كل شيء حققته مصيره الزوال، الأرض ستزول، الشمس سوف تنفجر والكون سوف ينتهي، وكل أعمال شكسبير، مايكل آنجلو وبيتهوفن سوف تختفي يوماً ما مهما قدرناها، لذا من الصعب أن تقنع الناس بشيء إيجابي حيال هذا الأمر. لذا فأن استنتاجي هو أن الشيء الوحيد الذي يُعول عليه هو التشتيت. أن تشتّت الناس، فعندما تشاهد مباراة بيسبول أو تشاهد فيلماً لفريد أستير فأنت تفعل شيئاً يشتتك. الآن، ماينجح في تشتيتي هو أني أفكر "يا إلهي، هل أستطيع جعل إيما وباركر يفعلون هذا المشهد؟" كما لو أن هذا الأمر يعني شيئاً! إنه أمر تافه في الحقيقة وسأقوم بحله وإن لم أستطِع فسوف يكون فيلمي سيئاً، لكنني لن أموت حيال هذا الأمر. لذا هذا ما أقوم به، أشتت نفسي، وصناعة الأفلام هي تشتيت رائع. هؤلاء الممثلات يأتين لمكان التصوير، يفكرن في أدوارهن وكيف سيؤدونها، ولو لم يفعلن ذلك، سوف يبقين في منازلهن، أو يجلسن على الشاطئ ويفكرن: يا إلهي، مامعنى هذه الحياة؟ سوف أتقدم في العمر، سوف أموت، من أحبهم سوف يموتون، هل سأصاب بالصلع؟ ماذا ترى سوف يحدث لي؟
 لذا كل مايجب فعله في الحياة هو أن تشتت نفسك، لتعش لحظات بعيدة عن مواجهة الواقع فكل المفكرين العظماء أمثال فرويد، نيتشة ويوجين اونيل، اتفقوا أن كثيراً من الواقع لايمكن احتماله وهو شيء كئيب أن تفكر بكيفية الهروب من الواقع. لذلك اذهب للسينما، أشاهد فيلماً لفريد استير وهو يرقص لمدة ساعة ونصف فأتوقف عن التفكير بالموت وبجسدي المتوهن وبأنني سوف أكون عجوزاً يوماً ما، في المستقبل البعيد."

اين نذهب يا بابا

"تقوّس ظهر ماتيو اكثر فاكثر, لم تُجد الدلاكات ولا مشّد الظهر نفعاً.

في سن الخامسة عشرة كان له صورة مزارع عجوز قضي حياته في عَزق الارض

حين كنا ناخذه في نزهة لم يكن يري الا قدميه,لم يكن بوسعه حتي ان يري السماء

للحظة فكرت ان اثبت علي طرف حذائيه مرايا صغيرة ,كمثل عاكسات تنقل له صورة السماء

التواء عموده الفقري ازداد وسيسبب قريبا مصاعب في التنفس ,كان لابد من اجراء عملية جراحية

واجريت,واعيد انتصابه بالكامل

بعد ثلاثة ايام مات في الوضع المستقيم,

اخيرا نجحت العملية التي كانت ستمكنه من رؤية السماء "
