An AM AUDIO Rose by any other name

There is nothing as beautiful as an English Rose….
Mike and I knew we had found a great talent and a brilliant actress during the recording of Season 1’s ‘Emily looks to the Stars.’ This was the listener’s introduction to Baker Street's temporary housekeeper, Emily Hudson played magnificently by Kate Elyse Forrest.
Kate and I were recording the Baker Street roof top scene where The Doctor talks to Emily about her mum and angels. It’s one of our favourite scenes and I never tire of listening to it. Kate delivered the lines with such conviction and emotion that it was truly a joy to listen to. I remember there was a strange silence after Kate delivered her final line. Kate and I just stood there, wearing our huge headphones and looking rather bemused.
Mike had forgotten to say ‘Cut’. He had totally lost himself in the scene. Caught up in the emotion and synergy that The Doctor and Emily now, magically had with each other.
I was a bit stunned myself (mind you, I always am). It was fascinating for me as the writer. You try and write engaging stuff and to do so, you soon find your characters have a voice. Initially, only you can hear it. It’s as if the clickety clack of the keyboard suddenly transforms into the voice of your character. For years I could hear Emily’s voice but now, well…Emily was real and she was more than I could ever have imagined. Yes, you write the words but the real ‘alakazam’ moment is when you hear the character. Actually ‘hear’ them.
A performer such as Kate can take those words, apply her own magic and before you know it, your character is real. Kate is a writers dream.
Kate has the looks of a fashion model and the talent of Meryl Streep. 'Sins of the Father' is a great showcase for her as she darts from action hero to warrior to mother to friend, all in 15 minutes. She is wonderfully collaborative, generous, funny and ‘a bit of a nutter’ in a way that only a fellow Northerner can understand.
I have fond memories of the pair of us at Comic Con where Kate was signing autographs using my head as a table.
“Lots of planets have a North!” said the 9th Doctor but not all stories have a Kate Elyse Forrest.
Thanks Emily.

It’s About Time ... to Geek out
via AM Audio Media broadcast partner The Geeko
A surprising bit of “gravy” to running TheGeeko.com has been the great people that we’ve met along the way. Like-minded people who share a passion for geeky goodness and are just good people to boot. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Geeks are the best people in the world. A perfect example of this are the people behind Doctor Who Dark Journey, the Canadian, award winning audiodrama written by (and starring) Andrew Chalmers and directed by MA Tamburro. Dark Journey is an audiodrama about a recently regenerated and emotionally shattered Doctor on his last regeneration. He arrives in London and becomes the unexpected companion to Sherlock Holmes. The Doctor and Sherlock are initially teamed up by Scotland Yard in an effort to stop Jack the Ripper’s murderous trail of terror. Series 1 of the audiodrama gained a following of fans who needed their fix of The Doctor and/or Sherlock and earned the respect of those fans by delivering a polished, 5 episode series that is sure to satisfy any Whovian. Check out our Series 1 interview with Director MA Tamburro here.

If you haven’t listened to Series 1, get to it. If you have, rejoice, because Series 2 officially launches today! You can find Episode 1 with our friends over at the Gallifrey Stands Podcast. Listen and love it fellow Whovians. Then, join us right here next Saturday June 20 as TheGeeko.com exclusively presents Episode 2 of Doctor Who: Dark Journey Series 2 – The Case of the Poisoned Sky. We’re so happy to be part of the internet’s #1 downloaded fan audio production.
What can we expect from Series 2? Why speculate when we can hear it straight from the source. I had the opportunity to chat with MA Tamburro again and was fortunate enough to be joined by The Doctor (and writer) himself, Andrew Chalmers. The rapport between these two is unquestionable, which is probably why The Dark Journey just works. Our interview with the boys: http://thegeeko.com/doctor-who-dark-journey-series-2-premiere/

Who is Atweh Atweh ?

By John Rock
The Doctor has regenerated and he’s AMERICAN ! That’s right! the British icon Doctor Who, known for his heroic adventures in time and space has crossed the pond in his latest incarnation played by Canadian singer/poet Atweh Atweh.
Atweh is taking over the role from outgoing star Andrew Chalmers who also wrote the fan produced Doctor Who Dark Journey which has now been re-branded ‘Doctor Who Dark Odyssey’.
Dark Odyssey showrunner MA Tamburro says that recasting a popular Doctor wasn’t easy but where there’s life there’s… and trailed off with a far away look in his eyes. Regathering himself, the self professed ‘Doctor Who expert’ says that this isn’t the first time the actor playing the Doctor has changed.

“One only has to look to the legacy of the very first Doctor William Hartnell who was famously replaced by Richard Hurndall. And we all know how that turned out,” as he pauses dramatically extending his right hand forward in a vaguely Jon Pertwee-esq pose for no apparent reason.
Speaking from the AM Audio Media recording studio, the pleasant open faced Atweh says he’s ‘super stoked’ to be a part of the Doctor Who legacy. Although he’s never seen the TV show or heard any of Dark Journey (which is odd because he was in it) Atweh promises his ‘American’ version of the Doctor will stay true to it’s roots.
“This is a complex cat,” smiles Atweh who is dressed in full character despite the fact that Dark Odyssey is an audio drama. “He’s lost in the sixth dimension with only his sonic gun to defend himself from the robot Darlicks and his phone booth space time machine. Luckily this Doctor has friends to help keep him real. I’m so hyped about our weekly guest stars from unrelated science fiction franchises who will be brought in for cameos. You can call them D-List actors if you want to - but just call them! Hiiii-ooooo! But cerially - my companion, played by Merrin Lalonde, who, although I’ve never met due to different recording days - is a delight. It’s amazing how she’s given depth and emotionality to her clearly one-dimensional character scribbled out in crayon by showrunner MA Tamburro.”
Raising his hand up miming a champagne glass Atweh smiles and offers his pledge to Doctor Who fans. “Never crewel or cowardly, my travels in the TARDIS will not become cliche American style sci-fi ... to the journey!”

Doctor Who - IS AMERICAN!!!

Time travel back if you will 20 years when, for a moment it looked like we might be getting an American version of Doctor Who. The TV movie starring Paul McGann and Eric Roberts sunglasses was poised to set the stage for a new era of Who, American style.
As we all know that never happened but AM Audio Media, has decided to take a cheeky look at an alternate time line where Doctor Who became very, very American with 'Dark Odyssey' which you'll hear clips of in these two episodes of The Doctor Who Show Podcast.
Dark Odyssey features Atweh Atweh as The Doctor, Paul Thomas Manz as The Master, Jason Gray as the Narrator and introducing Merrin Lalonde as The Russian Eyecandy, Written by MA Tamburro, Music by Joshua Hemming with Sound Design by Kevin Gray.
