Crystalline glaze that doesn't run! And it has a mohs hardness equivalent to a typical dinnerware glaze... I was running this test to bring down the expansion of our glaze (crystalline glazes are notorious for crazing). These bud vases for @simonpearceinc get their pink color from an engobe. For @potsinaction this week #piapink I thought I'd give some hints to how it's made... . . My first test was based off our normal engobe but combined too readily with the crystalline glaze and formed a hybrid glaze that was still runny and grew no crystals. On a hunch I replaced ten percent of the silica with calcined alumina and got the result on the right... Close!
