people forget way too easily that malleus is NOT HUMAN

this bothers me sm bc it’s the same way that people treat neurodivergent people: “its fine for you to work differently for as long as it doesn’t affect me”

they understand that malleus is a fae, that he lives in another country, that he has another culture, that he was raised differently… but they think it’s outrageous when he acts different from them?

they expect malleus to change and adapt to them but they don’t bother to even understand why malleus acts differently or why he can’t adapt to the way things work for them

also, isnt malleus literally cursed to make time pass differently to him? i mean, the characters don’t know this, but the fandom does, why are people still criticizing him for this?

it makes me mad bc MALLEUS TRIES, he tries só hard to adapt to things, he mark down the days on a calendar and arrives hours before the time when he is invited to something - but SOMEHOW everyone still blames him when he can’t make it, when this only happens at the times where he WASNT INVITED

I feel a lot of the time we don’t consider the fae perspective. We mostly consider the human’s. Which, yes, of course because we are human.

But in a story like twst, where so many characters are relatable human or not, I think it’s a bit unfair to not consider their perspective.

The main one I’m thinking of right now is how we tend to criticize Malleus and his not being able to keep track of time.

We’ve been told that he has trouble keeping track of time, and in general, many of the fae do. To them, time moves different (not to mention how it can differ depending on species), but for Malleus it’s much more than that.

Malleus has been locked up in the castle for years. He got visits from Lilia and he looked foward to that. Beyond that? It was the same every single day. He was alone. Think about it. For us, we would get tired and bored of that. Time would move slowly. We would want to escape. But Malleus couldn’t. He was trapped there, making the most of it when he hid and when Lilia visits. To him, those moments of fun didn’t last long at all and the moments of melancholy lasted forever.

On a side note, we’ve seen how long it took Lilia to adapt to humans too, about 200+ years. (He’s still adapting now. He’s somewhat better at it now because of Silver and Sebek. Who are more day creatures and he had to adapt to that as well. Even though it’s still tough on him). So how can we expect the same from Malleus, when it took even Lilia this long to do it?

When Malleus grew older and he was able to escape, time moved quickly for him. He was able to spend time with Lilia and others. He had fun and freedom. To him, time sped up. Silver and Sebek age quickly. Malleus had trouble with how fast it was. Even in his dorm card he mentions how quickly they’ve grown.

But then, you also have to consider, Malleus is a fae, he’s abided by fae time for over a century and it was only recently (at least 17 years), that he tried to adapt to human time. From seeing a babe grow to now at NRC, where school is taught through human time. How can we expect him to suddenly adapt so quickly?

I wouldn’t be surprised that besides some of the fae, other beastman or merman might have more of a nocturnal clock too.

We expect him to adapt to humans but when has any of them helped him to adapt? When we ask things of others, don’t we usually try and meet half way?? Isn’t it selfish to always one-sidedly ask him to change?? And not help him achieve the change we are asking for?

It’s one thing for the rest of dia group to help him, and they try. But it’s another, when the humans don’t even try when Malleus is trying to get along with them and make a connection with them for peace between everyone. Even more so, he wants to get along and have friends too.

And then?? They get angry? At him?? For not adhering to their ways, but did they help him? Did you remind him? Or even send the invite at all? Or were you too scared and it’s easier to blame?

He’s known to arrive in advance hours before a meeting so he doesn’t miss it because he does care and he does want to attend. But where are the people to meet him half way? To remind him or even give him the proper or updated info?

It’s a two way street. We can’t always judge malleus because of his “bad” traits, when in reality, it’s a fae thing can we?

You can argue that it’s not others jobs to do that. And yeah you’re right, but then we have seen dorm leaders go out of their way to help others haven’t we? Riddle going after Idia is one example.

And if there is to be peace, then both humans and fae have to work together to understand the other.

I think it’s unfair to always expect Malleus to change without understanding his background and his childhood and how that changes his perception of time.

actually, malleus um stops the time in a certain area and puts every living being there into a deep sleep

it’s possible that people’s body would atrophy bc of the amount of time they would stay in one position, but this is only a theory ortho thought and it wasn’t confirmed, what we know for sure is that the time was stoped

and if time has stopped in itself, no one would grow old or get weak, that was the entire point of malleus plan: everyone would live happily every after for a thousand years

at the end the consequences are: a damaged building and a couple of scratches

the biggest damages were: lilia’s death, silver and sebek with major injuries

lilia, silver and sebek getting hurt was a punishment in itself, the people he tried to protect the most were the ones he hurted. the building was reconstructed and the majority of people barely noticed what happened bc in the end all they actually experienced was… a good night of sleep

that’s why they forgave him too: they didn’t really suffer anything, and it was in their culture to forgive someone who is genuinely apologetic about their acts

then i go back to my original point: seeing his father die + losing his magic + being mutilated = IS ACTUALLY A REAL PUNISHMENT

malleus actually is the one that payed the most what is insane considering he is the only one who genuinely thought he was doing something good lol, people forget that malleus is >not human< and he can’t relate to people the way others characters could

add this to 2 centuries of trauma and loneliness and you have a teenager that dont know SHIT about what to do, especially in a moment he is feeling utterly powerless after being told his whole that (1) he is almost a god and (2) he is responsible for the happiness and safety of everyone around him

malleus is a character that wants to do good when everyone around him expects him to do evil, people expect that malleus will make thunder fall down the sky, that he should say and other should obey and no one dared to give him another option other than being fearsome, so everything he knows about being good he learned from lilia or from his own experiences, and he didn’t have either enough time with lilia nor enough experiences

idk why people want so much to make a villain out of these character when it’s obvious this game is about traumatized teenagers with too much power in their hands, it’s way past time some people here realize that NO these character ARE NOT evil, they are normal people that have good and bad inside of them

malleus actions are understandable AND not justifiable, that doesn’t make him a bad person bc he did something bad

I think that might be true of a lot of the players. 🦇：I didn’t really know their…Lilia’s position, I didn’t really understand it, but he is different from the dragons, so that revelation…if you were to say it then I would think “yes I can see that,” but…he worked so hard! 🐉：Lilia worked so hard to hatch Malleus! And everything in the past—and the senate had nothing to do with any of it! 🦇：What did they even do? 🐉：They didn’t have anything to do with anything. Seriously. Everything was left up to Lilia. “What is this? Explain this! Malleus will die!”  🦇：It had been a few hundred years before but there was the promise he made, and Baul…but he really worked so hard for so long. 🐉：I’ve thought about it. And things are happening over hundreds of years. It’s different than for humans, but still, hundreds of years—that is intense. That will break a person. 🦇：And it was his own child, too. There is love there. He might not have realized for himself it yet, but... 🐉：Maleanor-sama said as much. “Our child--it is impossible for you to not love him.”

🦇：What surprised me was how he started rejecting Maleficia’s energy. I wondered about that. 🐉：I didn’t realize that Malleus would be so picky. 🦇：And this is where Lilia’s love of travel came from, going from here to there. That hits pretty hard. After that, you’ll be happy to receive a pennant and you’ll display it, for sure. Usually you’d be like “…a pennant?”

🐉：I cried when Malleus was born. Just remembering Lilia’s weeping…I am the voice of Malleus, and if it hadn’t been for that Malleus wouldn’t have been born, so I felt a lot of gratitude towards Lilia here. 🦇：He tried so hard, and he did it (he starts speaking in Lilia’s voice here and it is so great) 🐉：And baby Malleus is so cute. 🦇：So cute.

🐉：And this is where Malleus learn the secret of his origin. Malleus’ rage—this was the first time I’d done a voice like that for Malleus. The loudest I have ever been for Malleus. And he got so angry so suddenly. I realized that even Malleus has that degree of emotion inside of him. And his grandmother hid it from him, too. That loneliness, that sadness…

🦇：We don’t know if Maleficia-sama shared the views of the others about “bat energy,” but it’s possible that that resulting in Malleus’ birth is one of the reasons why she thought it would be better to hide it. And Lilia overused his magic, connecting back to his health. That was a rough scene.

🐉：I heard that, for this chapter, you and 🐊 recorded together. 

🦇：Shared recordings are increasing recently. And there was so much pressure with this one. We have been doing this together for so long by now, both as rivals and as members of the same team, so coming together again after so long…I was worried that he would think “Ah, so this is what 🦇 has become these days.” Just my own, entirely my own thought. So there was a lot of pressure, but I think it was a good atmosphere.  🐉：That section was amazing.

The pressure is intense. People go in assuming it will make them cry, and I want to make them cry even harder than they’re expecting. I am glad if that is what they took away from it. 🐉：Everyone clap. I cried in another place as well, when Maleanor, as a dragon, and the Knight of Dawn…I was so sad. 🦇：Didn’t want to fight. 🐉：He had his own things, too, but thought he had to do it, and while he was fighting Maleanor I couldn’t do it. I put the phone down. I knew that if I continued…this isn’t good.

🦇：It is such a serious thing, but the battles are done with chibis. They’re cute. But you have to perform in a way that keeps up the feeling of the scene. 🐉：If someone asked me to play through the part again I wouldn’t be able to do it. 🦇：She's mom, after all.

🐉：It was pretty fun how everything suddenly shifted gears. I enjoyed the game of tag with Ortho.  🦇：Ortho taunts people more than I’d expected.  🐉：I was surprised that he was like that. 🦇：And Malleus doesn’t pick up on subtlety, so their interaction was funny. Until now Malleus had never really been taunted like that.  🐉：But eventually he turned it back on Ortho. Kind of like “oh, he’s actually mad, then.”

🦇：The newest technology against the world’s strongest magic—that is interesting. 🐉：It was very Shroud for them to approach from the new angle, the unforeseen perspective that they did.

🦇：Ortho was very busy—so many Orthos. The humanoid Ortho, the RSA Ortho, the phantom Ortho…and they all speak slightly different. That was amazing. The red-haired Idia came up in the story for the first time. I was surprised by that, seeing him move. That’s when I realized that it has only ever existed in that one groovy. That was neat. And Idia and Ortho’s battle… 🐉：It gets you worked up, makes you cry…Phantom Ortho, saying goodbye, that he’s waiting… 🦇：That was great. And his resentment over his mother seeing inside his computer was great.  Mama didn’t say anything, though. Just kind of, “Mm…” 🐉：A child at that age, having their parents look inside their computer… 🦇：And despite all the locks that he put on it. 🐉：Don’t know what she saw, though.

🦇：”That” in part 8 was great. 🐉：For a moment I thought it had become an entirely different game. Just as a video it was funny. I watched it three times. It makes you want Idia to just regularly do streaming.

Then goes into talk about Chapter 8’s release, SSR Savanaclaw Rook, looking forward to who else is coming and what they will look like, the upcoming Chapter 9, etc. 

🦇：It’d be great if they could do more recordings like this right after a new release when we are bursting with things we want to talk about. Over time we start forgetting smaller details. It would be nice to be able to be able to do something like this again, a bit lighter, having snacks and chatting about this and that within the game. I’d like that. We never have any opportunities to get everyone together.

🐉：And maybe being able to interact with players in real time, being able to hear people’s opinions. There are definitely perspectives out there that we’ve never considered, and it would be interesting to have an opportunity for that kind of communication.

(not meant to be definitive proof of anything, just some screenshots of the support that there is rumored to be for this theory 📝 )

Riddle's Overblot The idea of Ace challenging Riddle to a duel, which led directly to Riddle's overblot, was introduced by Crowley.

Leona's Overblot Leona explains that Savanaclaw was assigned to compete against Diasomnia in the first round of the interdorm spelldrive tournament for two years in a row: Leona's first and second years as housewarden.

As a result Savanaclaw went from went from never earning less than third place in the history of NRC to being eliminated in the first round, all because of that first-round tournament-bracket assignment.

And how is that tournament bracket decided? Crowley says that he is the one who announces it, but we do not have any information on how it is set.

If it is a random assignment, then we have precedent for the students being wary of what are supposedly "random" selections overseen by Crowley, with both Trey and Idia expressing doubt that Crowley's raffles are as coincidental as he claims.

Crowley emphasizes Savanaclaw's struggles during the Housewarden meeting of Book 2, reminding everyone--including Leona--how the failure that has followed Savanaclaw ever since Leona became housewarden is "certainly not impressing any recruiters" and adversely affecting his dormmates.

Leona asks says that he does not like being told he cannot win before he has begun to fight and Crowley says that is not his intention. When Leona asks what Crowley's intentions are, Crowley does not respond.

This is followed by the famously perceptive Vil saying that Crowley's plan to retire Malleus "reeks of some kind of unconscious bias."

Did Crowley assign Savanaclaw to compete against Diasomnia in the first round of the tournament for two years in a row on purpose? With Leona's third year as housewarden being his final chance to secure a future for many of his dormmates, he became desperate enough to do something he did not want to do: contract with Azul.

(Novel: "Leona did everything he could to avoid making a deal with Azul, but in the end, there was no other choice.")

Azul's Overblot

Azul is so confident in Leona's disinterest in involving himself in the business of others that Azul refuses to let the twins interfere after Leona becomes involved in Book 3.

It is Ruggie who realizes why Leona presumably let himself be blackmailed ("You could just knock Prefect into next week for trying to blackmail you"): Leona was erasing proof of his contract

Ruggie explains, "This whole thing is a way for (Leona) to conveniently get rid of (the contract)," connecting Leona being forced to the brink directly to Azul's overblot.

Jamil's Overblot

Kalim did not receive his acceptance letter until a month into the school year, enrolling at NRC in November, despite being "not very bright or that adept at magic."

From what we know of Jamil's life pre-NRC there were times he didn't want to go home after school as a child where he would have to tutor Kalim in addition to his duties as an Asim-family servant.

While Jamil suspects that Crowley allowed Kalim's family to buy his way into NRC it is still unconfirmed as of this post, but Kalim's admittance is suspicious enough based on canon information, and he is the catalyst for Jamil's overblot.

And Jamil knows for a fact that Kalim's family bought him his housewarden position because he was told as much: by Crowley.

Vil's Overblot

While it is technically Rook who serves as the catalyst for Vil's overblot, the instigating moment was Vil seeing Neige's VDC performance for the first time as the leader and producer of NRC's team.

A role that was assigned to him by Crowley.

Idia's Overblot

At the beginning of Book 6 Malleus says "something unusual is emanating from the mirror that's linked to the Hall of Mirrors. Is it magic? No. No, this is..." but he does not finish the thought.

Upon realizing that the school's security has been compromised Vil asks, "But how...?," a question that was possibly answered by Ace in Book 4:

"You need Crowley's permission to use the Dark Mirror."

Was it Crowley who submitted the untraceable anonymous tip to STYX, and then let the CHARON onto campus?

But the CHARON arrested him--why would Crowley want to be brought into questioning? Questioned by parliament and...Idia's parents 👀

Crowley's arrest led directly to Idia's parents leaving him alone on the Island of Woe, so there would be no one else available to stop Ortho ("Only people with Shroud family DNA can shut down the Cerberus System") or to stop Idia when he decided to ally with Ortho, and overblotted.

Malleus' Overblot

Lilia's imminent death is the driving force of Malleus' overblot, which brings the timing of Malleus' letter into question: did Malleus receive it at the age of 176 because that is the dragon-fae-equivalent of being 16 years old?

Or is Malleus technically younger or older than even a dragon-fae would normally be accepted into the school (Malleus' emotional age in an ongoing topic of debate), and it was actually timed to overlap with the end of Lilia's life?

Losing Lilia would have been a stressful situation for Malleus even in Briar Valley, but by bringing him to NRC he is in a uniquely vulnerable position, struggling to adapt to life in a foreign country while surrounded by people who are either terrified of him or frustrated with his inability to be normal (by human standards).

With Sebek and Silver also having never left Briar Valley, Malleus now has with only one person in his life capable of understanding both him and the outside world, one link to both his home and the incomprehensibly foreign world around him: his support system of one, Lilia.

If Crowley (or someone 👀) has managed to orchestrate these overblot incidents intentionally, the question remains of why!

But with recent revelations in Book 7, it makes one wonder...(under the cut as this blog tries to pretend that main story content does not exist until it reaches EN)--

...is it possible that someone, somewhere, has been building towards something, and with Malleus' magic now weakened he will not be able to stop them? 👀 Only time will tell~ 🐦‍⬛
