-deep breath-
A 'no questions asked' food pantry means no questions asked.
When we're stocking our pantry, we are not looking at a person's clothes or their accessories or what kind of car they drove there in. We are HAPPY to see it BEING USED AT ALL.
I don't know anyone's situation. Maybe they got that designer bag at a thrift shop. Maybe its a knockoff. Maybe it was a gift. Maybe they got it when they had money and now they don't have money. Maybe they're getting stuff for a friend.
Maybe they have plenty of money, don't need to be taking stuff from the pantry, but they are anyway because we said-
NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
Do you know what happens when someone takes from our pantry when they don't need it? We're down one item. But maybe they tell someone that the pantry is there. Or maybe they come back to it when they need it. Or maybe they throw a dollar in the donation box. Or maybe they put an item on the shelf. Or maybe they come to our food drive.
WE DONT CARE.
We don't care who used it.
We care that it was used.
Im not a cop. Don't make me do cop stuff, I wont do it.

People used to comment on web comics.
People used to comment on fanfiction.
People used to comment on fanart.
People used to comment on OCs.
I hate "content" culture.
I hate "consuming content" and scrolling immediately to the next thing.
People used to be excited about the art that other people created.
People used to want to share that excitement with creators.
I hate this future.

if you want to actually materially address child abuse, the single most important thing you can do to start is give children the legally enforceable right to leave any situation they no longer want to be in.
church, extracurriculars, summer camps, school classes, their biological family's houses. notably, these are the places that child abuse is enabled by the child's inability to just fucking leave if they need to. they can't walk out of church if their youth pastor touches them inappropriately; they'll get punished for leaving. if they walk out of their house because their dad hits them, the cops pick them up and give them right back to their dad.
children need the legal autonomy to leave abusive situations in order to even begin to usefully materially address child abuse.
original post by qweerhet because it's unrebloggable but very important

"But calling that abuse is offensive to victims of real abuse."
People always say this whenever something socially acceptable is labeled as abuse.
But that's not how abuse works. Not even close. Abuse, even "real abuse", always starts off being socially acceptable. Then, the abuser slowly experiments to see how much they can get away with.
Calling it "abuse" for a parent to expect obedience is not downplaying what victims of "real child abuse" experience. It's literally how "real child abuse" starts. First, the parent expects obedience. Then, once they can get away with that, they can justify punishments for disobedience. Then, once they can get away with that, they can gradually justify crueler punishments. Then, they eventually justify hitting, which society considers okay as long as it's only as a last resort. Then, it becomes more common, which they still get away with as long as the child doesn't end up in the hospital. Then, when the beatings become bad enough that the child does end up in the hospital, the parent can claim it was an "accident" and that they didn't mean for it to go that far. Then, when they face no consequences for their "accident", they can do it more often.
Calling it "pedophilia" for a middle aged adult to date an 18-year-old is not downplaying what victims of "real pedophilia" experience. It's literally how "real pedophilia" starts. First, they date an 18-year old, which society allows because "they're an adult". Then, they start specifically preferring 18-year-olds. Then, they start openly admitting that it's because they want someone less opinionated and more likely to obey. Then, once they know that they can get away with openly thinking of 18-year-olds as children while still having sex with them, it's quite easy to justify a relationship with a 17-year-old.
If you want to stop "real abuse", stopping the "lesser abuse" must be a priority.

This is true.
And it's also a major reason why seeing abusers as "pure evil" is counterproductive.
When one parent is actively abusive and the other enables them, the enabler is often being abused also. It could easily be a trauma response. Maybe the enabler feels helpless. Maybe the enabler is afraid that they'll suffer more abuse if they try to stop the child from being abused.
But the child doesn't care and shouldn't have to. Children are raised to see their parents as a team. Children are raised to believe that a child "disrespecting" their parents is worse than a parent abusing their child. Even though the enabler is likely a victim also, the child has every reason to see the enabler as complicit.

Hey, if your parents made you believe something when you were a kid, and now as an adult you feel incredibly stupid for believing it, it's not your fault. You are not stupid, you're not dumb, you could not have known what was going on.
Your parents knew they could convince you of lies, precisely because you were a kid. You had no resources or experience to know what was true and what wasn't. You had no reason to believe your primary caretakers would want to lie to you. You counted on them to tell you what's true. You could not have known that it was a setup to make you believe in something that wasn't true, that was made up for you to be more easily controlled, or scared, or permissive, or forgiving, or passive, or silenced. They might have told you that you're incapable of survial, or that you're stupid, or that you don't deserve basic necessities, or that you need to be eternally grateful, that everyone else would abuse you worse, that you have no place in this world, nobody will ever want or love you, or some more bizarre elaborate lie to keep you from reaching out for help, from speaking out, from putting up a fight.
They knew what they were doing when they lied to you. They knew that lying to a kid is easy. They knew once you figured it out, they could just mock and humiliate you for being naive to shut you back up. It was cruelty what they did.
Kids are naive. You were just a normal kid. They singled you out and used your own inexperience and the fact that you trusted them, to make you live in a world that is worse than it should ever have been for you. You're not stupid for falling for it. Anyone would. There's no other way to be a kid than to trust what your parents say to you. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

I am spoiling the live action Lilo & Stitch. And I am doing it up front and plainly.
Do not fucking see this movie. Do not waste your money on this. Period.
They made Nani give Lilo up to the American government. They made Nani LEAVE Hawaii and pursue being a marine biologist. They made a native Hawaiian character give up her sibling to pursue a dream that she originally did not have. This is imperialist propaganda at its FINEST.
The original fucking movie is about family staying together. It's about indigenous people being able to stay with each other and stay in their home and be together! That's the whole fucking point! Nani is Lilo's last living relative on her homeland—it is jarring, it is disgusting and disturbing that Nani would not only leave her last blood relative alone, give her up to the very government that is harming native Hawaiians TODAY, but also travel to the "mainland" for her dream!
Not to mention, Nani's actress isn't fucking Hawaiian. She's much paler in photos and real life. They fucking darkened her for this movie.
Don't even get me started on the transgender subtext of Pleakley's "human" disguise from the original movie being completely erased in favor of him being played by a regular ass white man. Jumba doesn't have his accent, they made him more villainous, and his "human" disguise is a non-fat white man—which part of his original joke, I know, is that he was bigger and was more clumsy in the movie because of his size, but to have the main shape of his character completely removed is also fucking weird.
This live action movie is a desecration to the original. I encourage you to not see it, please. Don't give Disney any of your money on this one. Just watch the original. Please just watch the original.
The new message in the live action movie is disturbing and gross.
This is one of the most disrespectful live actions I've seen and heard of. I implore you to not watch it.
