Mythology creatures in the Classic of Mountains and Seas

My first original illustration book about mythology creatures recorded in the Classic of Mountains and Seas (and was forced to be published cause the fan con event was being held soon and I have to participate in selling my merchs there🗿) I shall call this "my first edition☠️" I only got 15 from more than 200 mythology creatures recorded in the Classic of Mountains and Seas, a legacy of ancient chinese book and an exciting mystery, because there s no clear answer about its origin and the author, still debated and have been going on for thousands of years until now.

In short, the first authorship of The Classic of Mountains and Seas was traditionally ascribed to the figure Yu the Great, who was known as the founder of the first Dynasty in China, the Xia Dynasty, alongside with Bo Yi one of his ministers (YES AROUND 2070 BC🗿)

As an illustrator and writter this book, I believe that The Classic of Mountains and Seas is collection of documents from various unknown authors from century by century. Anne Birrell is the one famous translators of several ancient documents that were found, and I used her book entitled "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" as relevant research and reference for making this book. This contains a compilation of ancient Chinese mythical geography and mythological creatures and also discusses natural resources, culture, religion, folklore legends and includes content on ancient history, medicine and customs of various ethnic groups. I only focus on mythological creatures.

My goal is to research and illustrate 100 mythology creatures recorded in the Classic of Mountains and Seas (more is better, wish I could achiev it by the time) and I m not always draw about this, I also follow the currently trends what young people likes, anything even though I dont know it I try being open to draw it🗿

Ji Meng | The Classic of Mountains and Seas

15th illustration of 山海经 (Classic of Mountains and Seas) - 计蒙 (Jì Méng) 🐲In ancient Chinese mythology Ji Meng is the God of rain, also known as the Rain Master. It lives in the Guangshan mountain which has many jades on top and many trees in the bottom. Ji Meng has a dragon head, a human body, bird claws, feathers on his arms, and sprays rain by waving his arms and opening his mouth. It often wanders at the Zhangyuan. Wherever Ji Meng goes in and out, its always accompanied by winds and rainstorms. 🐲Legend said, Ji Meng belonged to the camp of Zhuanxu, one of the Five Emperors, and defeated Gonggong in a battle between Zhuanxu and Gonggong the God of water. This period occurred before the Xia Dynasty (the first Chinese dynasty) was established, which is currently known as 三皇五帝(Sān huáng wǔ dì) / The Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors.

Er Shu | Classic of Mountains and Seas

14th illustration of 山海经(Classic of Mountains and Seas) - 耳鼠(Ěr Shǔ) Two hundred miles further north, there is a mountain called Danxun Mountain, on which there are many stinking toon trees and cypresses, and the grass in the mountain is mostly leek and scallion, and there is a lot of Danhu that can be used as red pigment for painting. The Xun River originates from here and flows westward into the Tang River. There is a wild beast in the mountains. It looks like a mouse, has a rabbit-like head and an elk-like body. It makes sounds similar to a dog's barking and flies with its tail. If people eat its meat, they can cure stomach bloating and resist poison.

Féi Yí | The Classic of Mountains and Seas

13th illustration of 山海经(Classic of Mountains and Seas) - 肥遗(Féi Yí)Sixty miles further west is Mount Taihua, with steep cliffs that look like they were cut by a knife and shaped like a square. It is five thousand feet high and ten miles wide, making it impossible for birds and wild animals to live there. In the mountain there is a kind of snake called Fei Yi, which has six legs and four wings. When it appears, there will be a severe drought in the world.No matter what form of Fei Yi appears, its appearance indicates that a severe drought will occur in the world. This symbolic meaning has an extremely important impact in ancient society, because drought often means reduced food production and difficult life for the people.In the Classic of Mountains and Seas, there are three documentary records and interpretation of Fei Yi.🌱"Classic of Western Mountains": There is a snake named Feiyi, with six legs and four wings. If it is seen, there will be a severe drought in the world.🌱"Classic of Northern Mountains": There is a snake with one head and two bodies, named Feiyi. If it is seen, there will be a severe drought in the country.🌱"Classic of Western Mountains" (other version): There is a bird, which looks like a quail, with a yellow body and a red beak. Its name is Feiyi. Eating it can cure plague and kill insects.

寓鸟(Yù Niǎo) — 山海经(Classic of Mountains and Seas)

My 12th illustration of 山海经(Classic of Mountains and Seas) - 寓鸟(Yù Niǎo) Three hundred and eighty miles further north is a mountain called Guoshan. There are many lacquer trees on the mountain, many tung trees and elm trees at the foot of the mountain. There is a lot of jade on the south side of the mountain and a lot of iron on the north side. The Yi River originates from Guoshan and flows westward into the Yellow River. The wild animals in the mountain are mostly camels, and the birds are mostly gullwing birds. This bird is similar in shape to a mouse, has bird-like wings, and makes a sound like a sheep, while other sources say it belongs to the bat family. People can use it to defend against the harm of weapons.

Bifang | The Classic of Mountains and Seas

My 11th illustration of 山海经(Classic of Mountains and Seas) - 毕方(Bìfāng) It looks like a crane, with one foot, red patterns, green body and white beak, often associated with fire and seen as an omen of inexplicable fires. The legend once said that the appearance of Bifang will indicate a strange fire, some other source said that the appearance of Bifang foreshadows a big fire. Bifang's name comes from the crackling sound made when bamboo and wood burn. It is the god of fire and wood, and lives in trees.

Jon Stewart The Daily Show

I just want to say that as a foreigner I m so entertained by watching the news from The Daily Show, all this time🗿I dont take every political news I get too seriously, but this show what I hv been looking for, political matters in an entertaining way (hope there s also the kind show like this in my country🥲) Not being picky, all the gangs make everything they say very interesting, to listen to🗿

The first time I saw Jon Stewart, just by looking at his face I can tell his personality. A natural born comedy talent, expressions that are not made up, totally pure, remember the one incident when he was in anger then smashed a mug until his hand bled(anything thrown while he presenting the news🗿) He s also such a warm hearted person, I saw he tearfully announced the death of his dog Dipper in the show, and touching the hearts of anyone who has ever loved and lost a family pet. Until now he still uses his late beloved dog as his profile picture on X.

People who love animals have some of the biggest hearts around🌱

Bingfeng | The Classic of Mountains and Seas

My 10th illustration of 山海经(Classic of Mountains and Seas) - 并封(Bìngfēng) In the middle of the wilderness, there is a mountain called Aoaoju, where the sun and the moon go in. There is a beast with two heads on each side, named Bingfeng. It has a head like a pig, with two heads, one at one end, their wills are opposite to each other, and one head can only control a pair of feet.

My wish for future collab idea with Spyro🤣 ngl I found so many similarities between them🗿 Starting from those iconic gates to get enter to the realms🗿candle run just like collecting gems🗿 catching spirits just like searching crystal dragon/egg🗿exploring underwater🗿glitch may occur in some specific places🗿those butterflies charge the winged light and sparx eats them for replenish his health🗿complete the missions🗿flying then flying again🗿season by season🗿🤣 and the most important is, Spyro bringing back memories when we re a kid🗿
