retreated to my comfort zone and semi-annual experimenting with making clay textures less...eh? this time using my own textures because i remembered i have those
after and before (because i live on the edge)

these would still have to be remapped for ts2 to preserve texture space because to get the detail looking correct i blew the texture size up from 1024x2048 > 2048x4096
but i want something to go with these that i'll probably remake with the same shiny texture, because i have accepted that some styles aka most styles for men look better in clay and some in alpha
and i want lower poly hair for townie randos because i want to give my sims 30K+ hairs

making cc for the sims 2 does not spark joy anymore
i hate simpe. i have so many wips rotting because i can't bring myself to open simpe.
i see people accomplish these amazing things with it... and i am just not smart enough navigate the program. i open tutorials and nope out because i just can't.
and it's frustrating because i want to make more than hairs because i have an entire 3+ fantasy worlds i want to make but i just can't.
low key about to switch to ts4 purely because it also make me want to beat my head against a wall but at least i can navigate sims 4 studio okay enough but also i don't want to because the game is literally eating itself now

one day Natasha is going to rebel against the number of hairs i force her in for testing and i still haven't re-replaced my default skin lmao
anyway part two of not-quite-clayified hairs
my current hyperfixation with the sims is a magical not-quite-knockoff of a universe it's bad fortune to talk about and idk if it'll be easier to make happen in ts2 or ts4 so we're testing in both games right now
also i'm genuinely falling in love with the vibes of these. the stronger alpha plays so much more nicely in both games and i still get my shiny hairs without committing to full io textures

Oh Look Nykteia Made Another Texture Again...
i'm either in my semi-annual "remind myself why we don't play TS4 phase" or consider this the other side of the coin to my previous experiments with the Shining Nikki texture idk
anyway, i've wanted a midground between "clayified" (ew) and super strandy alpha hairs for a while that aren't going for TS4 maxis match because i will never be a maxis match player no matter the game but like play nice with each other?
so this is simandy's clay texture + io + lilith blended together after re-alpha-ing the hairs by frankensteining the alpha from the shining nikki hairs and while getting all of the hairs on one texture is my dream... i like shiny. i'm a sucker for shiny hairs
and i'm very sleep deprived right now but, eh, i'm kind of happy with the results for the moment

So I know there's a way with plants at least to make TS2 "generate" the backfaces?
Does this only work on plants or is there a way to enable it on other objects? Or is this like a plant thing only that's actually incredibly taxing but plants are special?
More context, a lot modern games just generate backfaces for hairs in-engine. So the meshes are half the size of what they "should" be if there were backfaces.
(It's part of why I put the CK3 hairs on hold before I got sick: making the backfaces made some of the polycounts unreasonable in my opinion for how "ugly" they are lmao)
