I just don’t feel it anymore

I remember when I started out this blog years ago with the intention of creating Vaporwave wallpapers, in those days I felt like I could use some moral support thanks to the issues I was facing at the time. Joining the Vaporwave trash culture community really helped me cope with the lack of warmth in my life and helped me to ultimately get it back. The time I spent with my cohorts at Latinwave [now Eternal Vibes and Caribbean Ventures] taught me a lot about dealing with people in a proper manner when it comes to productions and Matt from Power_Lunch has been very supportive of my productions... But I feel like I have overstayed my welcome. Ever since I began to experiment with my other aliases I received mixed reception and outright reject from labels when I attempted to submit my work. I tried to connect with the local producers to no avail and eventual humiliation... Despite all these things I moved forward experimenting with how far I could take the genre art movement from my end, I feel like I finally reached the end of that barrier. I don’t plan on just giving up on doing the things I like to do, it’s just that I don’t feel the same way I did before. The state of mind I was then is slipping away from me now as I grasp again for the familiar things that made me feel alive before my fall.  Right now on the night of the 27th of March, 2019, I am listening to the first audio production that set me to where I am today... Unknowing to that 15 year old reject, that tune represents everything she eventually will accomplish in life.

I won’t exactly leave the scene just yet, I promised a few works with a few people and a few, final submissions Eternal Vibes. But I want you to understand that my time in this scene is close to ending and I would appreciate it if you somehow still tagged along.

The V2k Subgenre

I had an extensive discussion with people on Reddit [Vaporwave subR] about the introduction of the #V2k tag for Vaporwave music that does not use samples rooted after 1999. I create music using this style and I have seen that other people in the scene also have worked on their own to create music in that style and have used the tag #Y2kVapor on Bandcamp, but it’s not catchy and the tagging is very decentralized. The reason I see importance to create a unified tag to refer to the subG is to make it easier to find all it’s similar music just like all the other subGs were made to follow that task at hand. Now, not everyone seemed to agree on me simply naming the group of music I am referring to under the excuse that “Other people have to categorize for you, you can’t go around making names to things because YOU don’t feel it doesn’t fit in!” and to that, as I stated before, I am not the only one using the style and I am seeing a need to identify the niche that has evolved throughout the past few years. There are probably a lot more I have not seen due to the lack of a centralized tag. I hope my effort will allow for more vibes like this to spawn and weed out the pretentious haters that think themselves special for only making Vaporwave and calling themselves artists without remorse [you know who you are!]

This is a small discussion I had with the “magazine” page called Hellxolatium [their page: https://www.facebook.com/hellxolatium/ ]  [stupid name, I know] because whilst I was scrolling through my facebook I saw a paid for ad for this page with a horrible HORRIBLE set of drawings and horrible colour choices. I am used to seeing terrible billboards with Comic Sans and gritty JPEG “art” on non-chain businesses, but it tears me apart to see what we have as local art is absolute garbage. I have yet to see how this person writes, but it is eats the fucking cake.

Right on the first of this year, I came across an image of a jacket with familiar looking graphics, thinking about it: Hey... That looks like one of my images! I wasn't wrong. In my frustration I lashed out at the design label Vapor95 because I thought they took my creation without telling me. By doing so, I didn't only discouraged quite a few people from buying from their design label, but I also kinda incited people to report the Facebook page that belongs to Vapor95. Due to all of this, I got temporarily banned (without me knowing because I was in the mountains with my grandma getting some traditional food and as such had my phone on roaming due to lack of signal) from the Facebook group Vaporwave Sadposting. The manager of Vapor95 messaged me saying that he saw the source of the image posh and paid me for the usage of the design (to which I gotta make a documented receipt for this week). It seems that from this experience I will have to forbid downloading images from my Tumblr blog and will have to get a repository for the images intended to be wallpapers. This also means I will have to roll back to using my fade in watermarks so I can know if someone took an image of mine without licencing. I know it sucks to think that despite this all being for the intend of Vaporwave art I will have to start setting up restrictions, but I can't afford to have another moocher get revenue from something that isn't theirs. To all other Vaporart blogs, please keep an eye out, be everywhere and show no mercy to any moochers. -Lucida Sans
