I remember thinking, when I first saw the trailer for this season, that they're overdoing it and packing too much into so little time; boy was I right

the whole Mel/Black Rose/Ambessa plot felt so annoyingly disconnected from the rest of the story? rushed, not fully explained or explored, just there as a plot device

Ambessa this season was ruined so much?

I feel like they weren't sure what to do with her - didn't have the guts to make her a truly compelling villain, but the attenuating circumstances/half assed suggestion at redemption was, well, half assed. and her motives just fell flat in the end.

so we're kinda sorry for her, kind of mad, not really sure what the reasoning was behind her actions, and eventually supposed to grieve the mother Mel lost and like? none of it hit

Yeah bet you feel stupid don't you, trencher? You didn't want to be touched by a member of the oppressive brigade whose job is to enforce a boot on your neck, and whose colleagues have abused, beaten, and killed your people for decades. Is it just me or did the Arcane finale completely forget about the dynamic of oppression between Piltover and Zaun? Why are the Piltover police suddenly being depicted as a relatively heroic force that will open the city gates to Zaunites after after two seasons worth of them being depicted as cruel and apathetic people of immense privilege who spare no mercy towards the Undercity? Is it just me or is the final season of Arcane totally contradicting its progressive messaging?

All I can think about is when the tides of war finally roll out of the shores of Piltover and Zaun, what will happen to Zaun?

Arcane repeats Star Wars' mistakes. Instead of telling a story of rebellion against oppression, it tells a story about invasion and how Imperialism is good actually because external forces are dangerous and imperialist structures work if everyone works together. (minus points for making the aggressor a Black woman with relatively vague motivations)

In fact, there are only like seven people in the world whose choices and actions define the fate of everyone else.

The dialogues are full of shallow platitudes - wow...

(Don't get me wrong, I was thoroughly and genuinely entertained, mesmerized even. The finale was visually stunning, and if Arcane had started as a typical Hero's Journey kind of narration, I'd be impressed because for psychological storytelling, it got as good as it gets, but the story feels a little disconnected and cliché, abandoning a lot of its greatest strengths from S1. I was looking forward to a story of collective action against systems of oppression and exploitation, and I got another epic tale of individual heroism.)

Okay so the poc characters either died (ambessa) or were stripped of literally everyone they love and fight for (mel, ekko), the mentally ill suicidal character kills herself (jinx), the disabled character was a villain and was blipped from existence (viktor) and the lesbian never got a chance to heal and recover and instead gets to be with her opressor but doesnt gets anything out of it (not EVEN PLEASURE)... But hey its not political it def doesn't reflect and applaudes the real life system that oppresses that same people 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

I'm seeing parallels between arcane and GOT ending that just don't sit right with me

they did Viktor dirty the same way they did it to Dany

having them suddenly turn to madness and apparently become the true danger and be betrayed/defeated by their loved ones?! (bearded conventionally attractive Men on their high moral horses )

shifting the weight so drastically from class/inequality commentary to "we're all united against a weird supernatural entity" just... disappointed me so much?

having the disabled scientist who was the only one trying to peacefully help the poorest and the sick turn out to be a villain?!! suddenly twisting his urge to help into a mad endeavour towards perfection without actually signalling that change in the story until after it's done?

I can't pinpoint the moment that Viktor turned into a person that would allow Doctor to do what he did. stories about the dangers of trying to erase imperfection and striving for "development" are good, yeah, but I was not expecting it to happen at the expense of the other themes the show so strongly introduced, especially this season

I couldn't fathom that the show told us Jayce was "right" in stopping Viktor, when everything about Jayce doing that felt so wrong.

idk maybe I'm just a little tired of the "self-righteous Man™ experiences something, interprets it in a way that requires drastic measures without consulting anyone and in a martyr like fashion does a Drastic Thing and saves the day".

Jayce ending up the Saviour that holds all the answers just irks me so much. and I'm not trying to be picky because he's a guy and I'm purposely looking for an agenda, it just thematically against what I expected

I feel like Ambessa with all her military totalitarian energy was in the end forgiven more than Viktor... ugh
