One of my favorite things about Arcane is how it subverts typical sexist tropes in Western media, as well as how it handles the portrayal of its female characters. There's a scene where Ambessa Medarda is speaking to Jayce, and she walks out of her bathtub, fully naked with no coverings nearby. In most other media, this would be a display of power in the way of the femme fatale - a slim body, seductive, sexual, fully available for the audience to see and ogle at while the male character tries not to stare. But the way Ambessa is portrayed completely subverts that. Her nudity is completely non-sexual and it's an incredible display of her power - she doesn't care if Jayce looks, because she doesn't even consider that this bathroom is anything but her own space, owned fully and wholly by herself. Jayce averts his eyes, not just out of respect but also out of fear, except his fear is completely borne out of respect for her as a person and not some bullshit fear about how her body is "ugly" or something other media would lean into for "undesirable woman warriors". The camera shows her full silhouette but doesn't linger, showing that she is large, she is a woman, and she is very clearly a warrior who has been through countless wars. This is the leader of Noxus. The very way she carries herself inspires respect.

VI

Tries to take on all the burden and suffering on her shoulders. She never wants you to get hurt or to bother you so she'd rather suffer in silence. This greatly affects your communication as she may get distant whenever she's dealing with some problems, which in turn may make you think that you did something wrong and that she's ignoring you. This simply comes from a traumatic past where Vi always had to take accountability and sacrifice herself for others. She will work on it once she sees the way it affects your relationship though. She just doesn't want to be a burden.

JINX

Very insecure when it comes to your love and loyalty towards her. Jinx is so used to thinking that everyone will eventually abandon her and you're the one person she really cannot lose. Because of this, she will often come off as overprotective and possessive. You will need to make your boundaries clear and reassure her often. Because she's so scared of losing you, sometimes she will go to drastic ends in order to make sure you're still happy with her and don't want to break up. Can also be very impulsive and has trouble sticking to the plans you two made.

CAITLYN

Can come off as insensitive when it comes to finances. Of course, she understands that many people aren't quite as well-off and Caitlyn genuinely cares for everyone but sometimes she doesn't quite understand how affluent she is. She might overwhelm you with expensive gifts, luxurious trips or over the top galas. She won't understand if you're ever hesitant when buying something or why you always make sure to see what's on sale at the market. It will take some time getting used to and you'll have to explain to Caitlyn the differences between your upbringings. Caitlyn isn't a judgemental partner, she just likes to spoil you, though she will tone it down if she notices you getting uncomfortable.

EKKO

Very stubborn when it comes to asking for or receiving help. He will push you away and hide his wounds or problems from you. Ekko is just so used to handling things on his own that he hates the idea of letting you bear his burden. He needs a long talk with you where you'll show him your support and help him realize the importance of confiding in one another. Ekko doesn't realize that it isn't a one-sided thing, meaning that if he helps you out when you need it, you'd do the same for him. Sure, he has the Firelights, many of them who are his friends but he rarely felt comfortable enough to confide in anyone. It's easy to forget that he is just a boy, trying to shoulder the weight of the world, and that he doesn't have to do it all alone.

SEVIKA

Surprisingly inexperienced when it comes to romantic relationships. Sevika rarely gets attached to someone, beyond the sexual sense. For her, lovers are people she sleeps with to release the tension and frustration that builds up during her shift. She never truly had a partner, someone to whom she can show her soft side, someone who will cherish her beyond her body and money. Because of this, she often struggles with showing love towards her partner in a non-sexual way or a way that doesn't include physical touch. Words. That is the biggest problem for Sevika; expressing her appreciation and adoration through kind declarations is something that will take a while for her to learn.

SILCO

Silco is often too focused on his cause towards Zaun and forgets his other priorities besides that one. This causes him to overwork and come off as cold towards anyone he deems a threat to his goal. Because of this, he may ignore his partner whenever he's stressed out and deep into work. He's also rarely home, and since he isn't a fan of PDA, it can be hard to deal with the feeling of missing him so much. He tries to make it up to you with gifts but you'll need to explain to him that such luxurious things cannot replace his touch and company.

VANDER

Similar to Vi (where do you think she got that trait from?), Vander is so used to shouldering everything on his own. He wants to assure for you to live a comfortable and fulfilled life, even at the cost of his own happiness. He works tirelessly to keep the Last Drop and the Lanes afloat and seldom shares the workload with you. You can see how the stress wears him down but he will deny it until he completely bursts under pressure. Vander doesn't understand how much it hurts to see him like this, but some kind words and gentle touches can help when coaxing him into leaning on you too.

VIKTOR

Workaholic who never takes care of himself. So burdened down with the little time that he has left, Viktor doesn't plan to waste any of it by doing trivial stuff such as eating or resting. As loving as he is, Viktor can be an insanely stubborn partner. You'll probably have to hoist him over your shoulder and lock the door to his office in order to take him away from work for a couple of hours. He doesn't realize just how detrimental the negligence when it comes to taking care of himself is to his health. You need to explain to him that he won't get anywhere by working himself to the grave and you'll probably have to beg him to let you take care of him.

JAYCE

As smart as he is when it comes to his field of work, Jayce can be quite dense and heedless of other people's feelings. If you're the type of person who doesn't know how to talk about their problems or struggles with communication, there will be some issues in your relationship with Jayce. He's the type of person who asks you what's wrong and, once you give him a half-assed 'Nothing, I'm fine.', he goes all 'okay :D', pats your back and wanders off. You need to be direct and blunt with him because hints and exaggerated sighs simply won't do the trick.

MEL

Mel is an incredibly intelligent woman who knows how to get what she wants. This means that she can be quite manipulative at times, I mean you have to be if you want to succeed in politics. She'd never act that way with you on purpose, of course not, but it may happen unintentionally. She is also another workaholic who may appear too cold with her feelings but this is simply because she's hesitant to bring her walls and defenses down. It'll take a lot of time and patience to see her vulnerable side.

GRAYSON

Grayson is sort of a combination between Viktor and Vander; works too much and is too selfless for her own good. Grayson takes her job very seriously, safety of the citizens is of the utmost importance to her. This leads to her neglecting her own well-being and health. Lots of caffeine and many long nights in the office are spent by Piltover's Sheriff and, the older she gets, the more it wears down on her. It's hard to ignore the bags under her eyes or the tiredness in her voice as she drags herself into your shared home late at night.

AMBESSA

Quite cold and guarded, someone who doesn't appreciate or understand feelings like mercy or kindness. She believes that every single person is inherently selfish and wants something from her. This is why she doubts your good nature so much in the beginning. It has been a long time since Ambessa let herself get involved romantically with someone so she has a lot of re-learning to do. This may come with a cost of your feelings being hurt from time to time, especially if you're a sensitive and kind-hearted person. As much as Ambessa loves you and tries to show that, it isn't easy to sweep years of experience under the rug. You'll need to be strong while she gets used to upholding a romantic relationship.

CASSANDRA

Cold and regal, oftentimes comes off as strict. Cassandra only wants the best for you but sometimes she just doesn't know how to say it. So instead she might go behind your back in order to ensure your safety and happiness. This often backfires, especially because of your opposing opinions. You feel as if she's treating you like a child while Cassandra simply thinks that she's looking out for you. Is also insanely stubborn, it'll take time for her to learn to look at things from your perspective.

Sevika's tastes

Sevika is an old lady and she just wants to be left alone. She likes to look good but when it comes to clothes, Miss thing just doesn’t care that much. She always has practicality in mind. So, no dresses, nothing flowy, has to have natural fabrics so that her skin can breathe, and she requires that things are comfortable. Her shoes are always made for hardware with a strong sole and often reinforced. In the modern world, I see her working in metal working (specifically welding), so she has to have clothes that are multipurpose. Though, if she was forced to wear anything really nice, it would be a simple well-cut blazer and a button down with jeans or slacks that conform to her legs nicely. She prefers earthy colors, nothing too flashy. I think she’d really appreciate a nice dark green, or perhaps brown. I also feel that she would enjoy a nice flannel regularly.

With food, I’m afraid her palette is as unrefined as her clothing choices. She genuinely does not care what she eats, though she really likes chicken- loves hot wings, spicy food is her love. But, her comfort food will always be the food native to what part of India her family is from. I don’t think she’s the best cook, but she has a few family recipes that she knows so well (aloo gobi, chai, samosa, tikka masala, saag paneer). And, I think that on nights where she’s feeling really sad or lonely she always craves those foods. She’d love to cook with or for her partner, it’d be the best way to get to know her honestly. Because it allows for her to show vulnerability through actions and without words. She loves to take care of people and I think in modern times she’d mother her friends just a bit, always making sure they’re eating well, drinking their water, and sleeping right (if not she’ll give them some chai). She doesn’t eat beef or dark meats in general, and she isn’t the biggest fan of seafood or turkey. So, she sticks with her chicken and her paneer. She’ll eat tofu but it needs to be in curry or something similar.

This woman would love 80s hair metal, music is something that I genuinely believe she’d love so much. She’d play drums as a teenager, dead set on becoming the drummer of the next Metallica. She’d also love the old school heavy metal bands, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Pantera. She’d love them all. I think she’d like some old school 90s rap too, but none of the new-age mumble rap that’s going on. She wouldn’t really like Taylor Swift’s music, just because it didn’t vibe with her, but she respected Taylor’s ability to get a bag. She has had a huge crush on Adele ever since she heard the album 25 when it came out. She liked some of her music, but thought Adele was drop dead gorgeous and all mature and soulful and shit, hit her in the feels and made her whipped for this woman she didn’t even know.

For movies she loves shitty 80s slasher horror, nothing that makes her think. She’d sit back in her old recliner in her pajamas and house slippers whilst watching Slumber Party Massacre for the third time, and then put on Golden Girls because she feels that Dorothy Zbornak is her spirit animal. She likes a good sitcom too and a ridiculous drama (she loves Desperate Housewives), she likes the camp, the over the top acting and dumb plots, it makes her laugh and feel care free in a way she hasn’t been in a long time. She just wants to curl up with her pets (she would have many) and watch teen-based tv shows that revolve around crime or secrets (Pretty Little Liars, Riverdale, Vampire Diaries, even Buffy etc.). She likes how bad they are, but she gets so invested it’s ridiculous.

For personal scents she’d like more woody, alluring scents that are also kind of sweet. Think Amber by Rag n’ Bone (it smells so good), she doesn’t spray much, just a spritz, it wafts around her just slightly, just enough for women to fall at her feet. Her individual smell wouldn't be overpowering but it would definitely be clear. It’s grounding and soothing. Her sweat stinks though, every time she comes back from the gym, she goes straight to the showers because her own dogs don’t want to come near her b.o.

In general, Sevika is an old woman who couldn’t give less of a shit. She wants to be left alone with her life and her people and chill. Which is why, I feel like she isn’t that opinionated on much unless it’s boundaries or causes she cares about. She just doesn’t have the energy to be bothered with trivial things like which movie to choose for the night, or which restaurant to go to. She is tired and all she wants to do is eat good food with her partner and her pets in a little cottage in the middle of nowhere. She doesn’t like neighbors and she doesn’t like people in her business. She doesn’t need a perfect life, just one that’s hers.

One night you decided to visit the Last Drop after recently moving to the Undercity, and it didn't take long for SEVIKA to take note of your cute face. You sat at the bar, chatting with Thieram, while she watched you from afar, taking in your adorable gestures and the expressions you made while talking. After losing her card game for the 5th time due to being distracted by you, Sevika decided it's finally time she made a move. She joined you at the bar and started up a conversation. You were taken aback to say the least. You couldn't believe that you were lucky enough to be approached by such an admirable and strong woman who was, safe to say, exactly your type. And once you realized she's flirting with you? Best day of your life, that's for sure. The more you kept talking to her, the sooner you worked out that this was the scary woman of Zaun that almost everyone warned you about. You couldn't believe it at first, sure she seemed tough and rugged but she acted nothing short of protective towards you. Safe to say, you wouldn't mind getting to know the dashing and strapping woman better and it seems like she feels the same about you.

''Hey, uh, so I didn't notice you here before, you new in town? Hm, makes sense, I definitely would have noticed such a beauty if I had seen you around before tonight. Well, I should warn you, this place is full of dangerous creeps so make sure you're careful. GRAYSON and you lived in the same apartment building and she noticed you as soon as you moved in. It was hard not to, especially when you brought over some baked goods as a gift for your new neighbor. She thought you were very sweet and always looked forward to running into you in the hall whenever she was coming back from work. Eventually, you worked up the courage to invite her for a cup of coffee at your place. This became a weekly thing and you two got close quite quickly. Before she knew it, Grayson had a huge crush on you. You always listened to her rant about annoyances at work (Marcus) and you would greet her with the brightest smile and kindest words. She just couldn't get enough of your company so one day she showed up at your door with a bouquet of flowers and waited for you to let her in. You were touched by her thoughtful gesture and even more when she formally invited you to go on a date with her, which you gladly accepted.

You ran into AMBESSA while she was exploring the sights and wonders that Piltover had to offer. You were hurrying along, not really looking where you were going in order to avoid the evening crowd as soon as possible. This led to you hitting what felt like a wall brick but was actually the Warlord of Noxus herself. Now you're lucky you're cute, otherwise Ambessa wouldn't even spare you a glance, much less help you get back on your feet. She dusted you off and checked you for injuries while admiring your cute apologies and red face. She decided not to tease you too much, seeing as you could already barely form a sentence just because she was looking at you. Deciding that she has found her company for the rest of the day, she went off to explore Piltover with a little wonder she found on her own.

''Careful there, darling, I almost ran you over just now. You need to keep a better view of your surroundings, understood? Good, now, are you hurt anywhere? No? Do you have anywhere to be right now? CASSANDRA met you whilst trying to get some alone time to rest her nerves during an incredibly taxing and boring gala. She exited to the balcony, trying to get some fresh air and escape the gaggle of people which endlessly needs her attention and, frankly, she was tired of it all. Cassandra was nothing but loyal to both her family and her job but, at the same time, she wished she had some sort of an escape from it all. Her prayers were answered rather quickly, because you soon joined her on the balcony. At first, you tried to leave because you did not wish to bother the Councilor but, surprisingly, she called you out to join her and keep her company. You soon realized just how lonely and exhausted the older woman was, as the two of you made some small talk she inched closer to you, putting her hand over yours and always maintaining eye contact. By the time the night was nearing its end, you were both smitten by one another and Cassandra wasn't going to let you just slip through her fingers.

''Well, hello there. Ah ah, where are you going? Why don't you come here and join me, I promise I don't bite. Good girl, take a seat here. Have you also come here to escape the stuffy atmosphere of the gala? I must admit, I found myself here for exactly the same reason.
