For the @loturazine Royal Alliance II, I designed a charm and it turned out so pretty with the color shifting effect! I wanted to do something symbolic for Lotura and what better symbolism than swords and flowers!

Here’s my gift for @canadiantardis for the Plance Conservatory Valentine’s Exchange! I just had to draw altean!Pidge from her Plance AU, Connections, because I love it so much. And I can’t believe I tortured myself drawing paladin armor but I really wanted to see what long-haired altean Katie would look like in it T-T

I’m back at it again with the memes. If I didn’t take this AU seriously this is exactly how Lance finding Red and grabbing his friends to abandon the Galra Empire would have played out. Unfortunately this scene is... much more angsty.

I think Red’s claws are about the right size? They seem to be like a good 20 feet tall at least (if not more), still super big next to galra!Lance’s crazy height. I did not fully color their outfits for this one because I was feeling lazy wasn’t going to color it at all but you know how it goes

What Lance is doing in the final panel is up to your imagination, but he’s freakishly flexible so anything is possible lol.

I’m back at it again with another fantasy AU, featuring (eastern style) dragon Lance in a Raya and the Last Dragon/Spirited Away inspired AU! 

Lance is a river dragon and he’s a beeg noodle, standing between 9 and 12 feet depending on how curved or straight his neck is, and the length of his body is somewhere around 40 feet long. His horns and fins can glow too! 

Lance can also take a human form, standing at about 6′2″ while Katie is 5′1″. Katie’s outfit is inspired by Raya’s, and instead of Tuk Tuk she has Bae Bae (omg I didn’t realize even their names were similar) who is a giant canine big enough to ride, probably stands 4 feet or so at the shoulder (similar to Namaari’s giant cat).

I sadly didn’t do much art this year, at least comparatively to other years. And to no one’s surprise there’s lots of Galra Plance as my focus lol. I’m trying to branch out more but Plance is such a comfort ship for me and the past three years have been stressful as hell. 

I’m trying to get better at backgrounds and that’ll be another goal for me in the upcoming year. As you can see I love doing very simple backgrounds or just color gradients, but I’d like to do more actual scenes where it feels like the characters are a part of the background. I still need to improve on things like foreshortening and dynamic poses, and I’ve been learning more tricks to use with CSP but there’s still so much more to learn. But overall I felt like I have improved despite the lack of work I have to show for this year. 

I’d like to branch out a bit more in 2022 and participate in more events, both fandom related and personal challenges.

For the Clintasha Advent 2021 I knew I had to do the prompt for “Separation/Reunions” because it fits these two so well. When they’re not on a mission with each other it makes the separation so much worse knowing they can’t cover their partner’s back, but it also makes the reunion so much sweeter. I imagine they go to get some food as soon as one gets back from a mission, where they can catch up and relax.

The sculpture Psyche Revived is one of my favorites - the pose is so beautifully romantic. I knew I had to draw Plance in the pose for this AU. I take some inspiration from Psyche and Cupid for this AU, as well as Hades and Persephone. Lance and Pidge are terribly star-crossed in this AU but they fight so hard to be with the one they love.

I hope to start the Zodiac Gods AU soon, but for now enjoy this dramatic pose with dramatic lighting! (I kept changing the colors and lighting on this like a thousand times ajtlejatle)

I wanted to draw druid galra Pidge and I ended up giving her horn jewelry and I really dig the look for her now. Lance probably buys her a bunch of horn adornments and she’s oblivious that he’s courting her.

What Lance expects saving the Altean Princess will be like vs Reality(tm). 

Lance and Allura’s first time meeting in the galra AU will be very different from canon, but some things never change XD do not worry, she will still call his ears hideous. But since Allura has even more reasons to hate all galra in this AU, seeing Lance wearing red paladin armor will be a horrible combination for a first impression. 

Allura: How dare you come in here, claiming to save me, wearing the same paladin armor as my father!  Lance: Your father piloted the Red Lion? Allura: MY FATHER CREATED VOLTRON! Lance: Quiznak

I love the star-crossed lovers trope and felt like drawing something simple and easy so Zodiac Gods AU it was. In this AU Pidge is goddess of the forest and Lance is god of the sun and sea - not only does Pidge need to stay on land but Lance mostly needs to stay in the ocean, and Pidge is one of the Champion gods while Lance is a minor god. There are a lot of factors at play to keep them apart and their fight to be together is painfully delicious.

I needed a spoopy icon for Halloween and y’all voted for unhinged doctor Lance from the Zootopia AU - he will definitely have his corruption arc/dark streak later on and I can’t wait to reach that point. >:3c

Based on this meme because it fits beast!Lance so perfectly. He wakes up and chooses violence most days. A bonus Pidge and Hunk, probably after witnessing Lance doing something dramatic and destructive:

Honerva gives the Paladins exactly what they think they want, but in turn it destroys them. There is a chuck load of symbolism here for my Galra AU and it is giving me Feelings(tm). I will delve into the meta of this under the cut.

LANCE

In canon we see that Lance wants glory - he wants to be important and recognized as a hero. He craves attention and he wants to be fawned over by the ladies. Honerva gives him exactly this when she gives him power. Through his poison immunity and rigorous training, Lance becomes one of the most intimidatingly powerful galra within the Empire. He becomes the “super soldier” and in turn gets the attention of all the ladies. 

In the end, he absolutely hates it. Probably likes it at first but he now feels trapped, constantly having to live up to this standard of the hero lest he disappoint everyone and stuck in this cycle of seeing girls he doesn't want to be with. Because of his poison he fears he can’t ever truly settle down with someone.

Speak no evil fits Lance for a number of reasons. His mouth is his most dangerous weapon due to his venom. He is the first to learn the truth and tell the other Paladins they were once human. Due to his many interactions courting women, he knows numerous secrets, even damning secrets of the Empire. And we all know Lance to be a talker...

PIDGE

A curious mind, Pidge has always wanted to know how things work. Especially at the young age of 10 where the story begins, she wants to learn and be as smart as her older brother and parents. When Honerva presents her with unlimited knowledge, of course she dives in with little doubt. But such knowledge comes with a price, and that price is the side effects of druidcraft. 

Pidge gets all the knowledge she could possibly want when she learns druidcraft and with her high status she's left to her own devices. But over time she realizes how it alienates her from everyone else, that no one can understand her or even like her because everyone fears her, and she starts to feel very lonely. Pidge yearns to be loved. But due to her delving in druidcraft, she knows she is only feared by everyone within the Empire, and the negative side effects have made her unsightly.

See no evil fits Pidge because Honerva helps her to literally see the future, but never the bits that would destroy the lies she’s woven together. With her seer abilities she will also be able to look into the past and confirm Lance’s revelation is true, at least the part where they were once human.  

HUNK

Hunk struggles with fear and anxiety and he doesn’t want to be a coward. He wants to be strong. Honerva promises him that with strength, he will have no need to be fearful anymore. Hunk cannot handle the carnage of war and becomes an engineer, designing ships for the Empire instead of fighting and conquering like the other Paladins.

But Hunk's strength comes in uniting people and supporting them and he doesn't get that when he's stuck in a lab all day. Like Pidge, he's lonely and feels very unfulfilled despite getting what he thought he wanted. Though he is physically strong, Hunk isn’t fighting any battles when he’s left alone tinkering on ships, and has no opportunities to grow. 

Do no evil fits Hunk because he is the one who cannot bring himself to pull the trigger. While the others are transformed in more than appearance to become killers, Hunk stays true to his desire to do no harm to others. Even after learning the truth he will have a hard time fighting against his Empire.

KEITH

An outsider, an orphan, an odd one at best, Keith has never felt like he belonged somewhere. Losing his parents at a young age, he doesn’t know the meaning of family and yearns to have a home and people who love him. When he’s abducted and learns he was actually half galra all along, he finally feels like he’s where he’s meant to be. Honerva gives him the family he never had, the family he’s always wanted.

And ironically enough, becoming fully galra and being with a galra family is still not meeting his needs. He feels like he's just a disposable pawn despite being a favored Paladin. He needs genuine bonds, and even though he feels that with Lance, Pidge, and Hunk, he needs them under Voltron instead of the guise of a fake family. He’s given what he wants, but in a way that doesn’t satisfy his needs.

Hear no evil fits Keith because he is the least objectionable to Honerva’s plans in the beginning. He believes they were meant to become galra, that all of this was meant to happen. He is the one who fights against Lance the hardest when they learn the truth. He is complacent to be galra and remain a soldier for the Empire, but he has to find it in himself to be the leader of Voltron and fight against that which he called home...

I wanted to see if I could figure out Pidge and Lance’s size difference based on the current progress of my height reference sheet and I also really wanted to see what they would look like in the Garrison uniforms, and I am happy to see that Lance still looks good in red even when he’s purple-blue (yes, in this AU Allura wears blue instead of pink, and Keith wears black instead of red). So here they are sharing a kiss in one of the hallways, probably in-between boring war room meetings.

I started doing the shirt cut meme for Pidge and then I was like... welp, I gotta do it for Lance too. This was fun anatomy practice and most of these turned out way better than I thought they would.

For Pidge we have: Zootopia AU (Paradise Lost), Zodiac Gods AU (The Constellation We Create), Ninja AU (Beyond Good and Evil), Galra AU (Shatter and Tessellate), and Mer AU (What Tides May Bring). And yeah... Pidge’s bust size is different in every AU for me it would seem lol. I like variety. 

For Lance we have: Cosmic Reaper AU (The Vacant Ether), PIKE (Defenders of Aurita), Zootopia AU (Paradise Lost), Galra AU (Shatter and Tessellate), and Mer AU ft. baby Orion (What Tides May Bring).

Shoutout to Rosie for being a genius and suggesting the boob window one for Lance be him ripping his shirt open because that is major galaxy brain right there.

Here is the charm design I made for the @planceeverafter zine! This one was super fun to come up with because what better thing to go with Plance than plants? I love the symbolism of tulips for Pidge/Meklavar - “deep and perfect love,” and bluebells for Lance/Pike - “loyalty, constancy, humility and gratitude.”
