i’m back from the states and sorely missing my friends already :( but i had the most amazing most fun time ever :3

okay so i didn’t get everything done that i wanted to but considering i’ve been busy pretty much all day, i think i’m glad with where i’m at so far. i got all the big jobs out of the way and can do more tomorrow morning :]

now to relax with some writing!!

holding myself accountable today because today and tomorrow realistically are the last days i can get ready for my trip on friday 😵‍💫 if i complete this list today then i shall reward myself with a sweet treat! any encouragement is absolutely welcome lmao

• print out visa documents and boarding passes and file them ready for airport

• do first load of laundry

• remake bed with fresh sheets

welcome to the life of fic writing !! i am no means an expert, but with about ten-ish years under my belt of writing and posting fanfic, here’s what i know so far:

my first and foremost piece of advice always when it comes to writing would be to read as much as you can! not only is a really fun pastime but reading fan fiction as well as just regular novels will absolutely get that brain train moving! i love LOVE picking out little phrases and words to pepper into my own vocabulary when it comes to writing. it absolutely will help in expanding your skill set and as time goes on, whilst you’re picking up new things to add, you’ll start to get a feel on how to write those things yourself with your own flourish once you’ve nursed your own writing voice :)

in terms of how to plan a fic, for me, it’s kind of comes down to your own intuition. write what you want to read - not what you think others might like. trust me on this, whilst it might seem like the better option to go ahead and write the fic that you think is going to get more hits and kudos, it’ll only be a pain to slug through if it’s something your heart totally isn’t in. write that really weird obscure crossover fic that maybe you and one other person is going to read. put that oc in there that you’ve been dreaming up for weeks! write what you love, and you’ll, in turn, love what you write :) and you never know, as weird and as whacky as your fics may be, somebody out there is bound to love it :)

totally take your time with it. i used to be a very speedy writing. i could knock out a one-shot within the hour no qualms. it probably takes me a good couple of weeks now to do so. life gets in the way more than it did five years ago and that’s fine. there’s no deadline to how long it takes you to write a fanfiction, no matter how long you plan for it to be! it took me ten long months back and forth to get 49k words done and posted! sometimes things just take their time and that’s okay. don’t feel discouraged when you go through phases of feeling like you haven’t written much. it’ll come to you - let that brain muscle rest every now and then and the motivation will hit you like a truck lol

leaning from my last point: remember when you’re writing a fic, you’re seeing it from your own perspective again and again. what i mean by this is, it’s easy to get caught up in your head when going over works you’ve been writing for a while, so always take a step back when you’re feeling uncertain or discouraged and ask yourself:

“is this bad, really? or have i just read it fifteen times over with nothing in between?”

you’ll be your own biggest critic but even critics can be wrong sometimes. give yourself credit where credit is due and try and step out of your own mind when re-reading and editing your work.

absolutely and definitely find someone to help you out. the beautiful part of fandom is: there is always going to be someone that will absolutely want to hear every and any fic ideas or snippets you have to offer! don’t feel shy in reaching out to fandom friends or other blogs in asking if you can share ideas or ask for advice! you already did part of that in coming here, so you’re already one step ahead of the game! bouncing around ideas in your own head is fine, but rubber ducky-ing with someone else to give you even more ideas and motivation is a great way to flesh out your stories! plus, it means you get insights to other people’s fanfics too which is always fun lol

in terms of actually writing fic, if there’s a particular phrase or sentence or part i want to write that sticks in my head, i just write it at the top of the google doc in bold so i know to use it later. so many times at work have i been tallying around bits and pieces of writing in my head only to forget what i came up with later on because i didn’t write it down quick enough. even if you don’t end up using it or use it differently, spew up all your thoughts into one document for that fanfic to use for later!

format to me personally is important to write fic: i use google docs, i write in georgia font size 11 and write the fic title and my username at the top. it might sound pointless but to me it’s the equivalent of sitting my brain at a desk in order to make it work. some people are absolutely fine with writing in their phone notes, but if you try that and find you’re struggling, try and format your word document to see if it helps a little. a lot of people also recommend writing in comic sans so try that if you’re still stuck! even though the fonts won’t matter in the long run when you post, experiment and see what works for you for the short term!

you can also figure out how you want to write. I used to work really well with writing with music, but now find total silence is the way to go. if there’s a particular playlist of songs that get you going into the mindset of whatever you’re writing, play it and see if that helps! but if not, try the alternative because sometimes too much input doesn’t create a whole lot of output. you can still make fic playlists but just do whatever feels comfortable! don’t overstimulate yourself when your brain is already working so hard!

and mostly, just have fun with it :) if you’re new to posting fic it can feel exciting as well as daunting, watching other peoples fanfics generate a buttload of hits and engagement and fanart, trust me I know the feeling. but always remember what it was that introduced you to the love of writing and cherish that. don’t let numbers and figures determine how you feel about your new, fun hobby. just do you and know it’s okay to make mistakes and not be perfect and for the love of all things good in the world, as tempting as it ever becomes, don’t entrust chatgtp or AI for help or advice lmao

i hope this helps in some way, and like i said, ive been writing fanfic for ten or so years and posting it to the internet for funsies. all things take time but as long as your loving what you’re doing, it won’t be long at all before you watch your craft blossom and grow and the more confident you’ll feel in yourself a writer, you’ll be able to do more and more.

i’m meeting with friends i made way back in 2016 THROUGH tmnt :] we’ve remained friends all this time, and since then ive met more people through them who im gonna be seeing, and it’s just gonna be the most fun ever !! so whilst it might not be sleep and rest, mentally it’s gonna be so much more refreshing than work on every level possible hehe

Comics: Mikey has a C.T.S. (AU?)

This is a true story based on my real life.

I was diagnosed with this condition a month ago, and I decided that since Mikey is an artist, he will have the same thing as me.🙃

I decided to do everything in the form of a comics and everything that will be described in it and everything that Mikey will experience is 100% true.

I do not know how soon I will update the comic, because I cannot even bend my fingers, I am silent about cooking / drawing / holding anything.

The doctor forbade me, but I do...
