As a queer trans youth excommunicated from my family and living on my own, When I first started cooking for myself I didn’t know the name of the spices I needed in English. I only knew it’s Tamil name. This made it hard to buy groceries because I couldn’t read the Tamil names on the spice package. Now that I know what they are called, I decided I am going to do a series teaching people the Tamil and English names for spice, herbs and general commonly use ingredients. Today is ventayam or Fenugreek. Growing up I soaked some in water and took two spoons everyday for menstrual cramps
