Often I will see people, specifically right-wing politicians and supporters, complain about how left-wing Americans, specifically minorities, are hypocrites, demanding that our opinions are better then theirs then not letting them defend themselves.

That’s bullshit

Just for a fun little point to start, we do let them talk. We listen to their ideas and thoughts, let them get it all out, then counter it with simple facts. You think there are only two genders? Here’s some scientific and historical proof that you’re wrong. Being gay is unnatural? Let’s take a quick look at the animal kingdom. Black Americans commit more crimes and are more prone to violence? Let’s read some statistics and educate ourselves.

And they don’t like that. They don’t like being wrong. And when presented with proof that their ideas are disgustingly incorrect, they point fingers. Claim we’re not letting them “prove their facts” or “shutting them down”. We aren’t.

But we should.

One of my favorite quotes is from Kumail Nanjiani.

For those of you who are using the app, or just have a shitty connection, the quote reads 

“Seeing a lot of MAGA people complaining about being demonized.

Here’s the big difference.

I didn’t like MAGA people because of their ideas.

They didn’t like me because of my existence.”

Opinions are “I like dogs vs. I like cats”

Opinions are NOT “I would like to live a peaceful life and love whomever vs. Gay people are violating God and should not exist”

It is not an “opinion” when you support Black Americans being killed in the streets

It is not an “opinion” when you’re ok with trans youth being bullied and committing suicide. 

It is not an “opinion” when you want gay youth to be sent to conversion camps and spend the rest of their lives hating themselves.

And it is not an “opinion” when you say that women are inferior to men or treat them as objects for you to admire and fuck.

That is an ideal. And while all opinions are valid, not all ideals are valid. Not when said ideal is homophobic, racist, misogynistic, or transphobic. Not when said ideal hurts somebody.

I will respect your opinion when you tell me that we should have lower taxes, or not have an assault weapons ban. I won’t agree with you, and I may judge you, but I will never shut you down or get angry. I will never treat you like you treat me. 

But it’s a different story when you tell me about how Muslims are “terrorists” or Asians are “stealing your job”.

Because your “Politics” and “Opinions” hurt me. Hurt those around me. And not a way that I can help. 

I cannot change that I am bisexual. I cannot change that I am Jewish. I cannot change that I am a woman. 

You cannot change your heritage. You cannot change your sexuality or gender. You cannot change Who You Are. 

And when you want me to not be Who I Am, you are invalid.

I should not have to fight to just exist. 

Nobody should need to prove that they deserve simple human rights. 

And that is why when you tell me your “opinion”, I will not tolerate it. 

All we owe to each other is basic kindness.

And when you give me none, I won’t give you any either. 

You hate me for existing.

And I am well within my right to fight for my existence.

COVID is slowly becoming a "third world" disease. While first world countries are hoarding vaccines, having doses for populations many times their size, third world countries can't get any because pharma companies want to sell to the first world countries first. Even then, first world countries will receive them first. While rich countries recover from COVID, they will forget about the pandemic while many other countries live the absolute worst moment of the pandemic without being able to vaccinate their population.
