You can have a lot of fun and different kinds of sushi at home with temaki sushi, which is also called "hand rolls." They're simple to make, and you can add any fillings you like.
Ingredients: 3 cups sushi rice. 4 cups water. 1/2 cup rice vinegar. 1/4 cup sugar. 2 tablespoons salt. Nori seaweed sheets. Assorted sushi fillings e.g., raw fish, avocado, cucumber, crab sticks, shrimp.
Instructions: Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a rice cooker, combine the sushi rice and water and cook according to the rice cooker's instructions. In a small saucepan, heat the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Remove from heat and let it cool. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature. Prepare your sushi fillings by slicing them into thin strips. To assemble the temaki sushi, place a nori seaweed sheet on a flat surface. Spoon some sushi rice onto one corner of the nori sheet and spread it out thinly. Add your desired fillings on top of the rice. Starting from the bottom corner, roll the nori sheet into a cone shape, ensuring that the filling is enclosed. Secure the temaki sushi by moistening the edge of the nori sheet with water. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients. Serve the temaki sushi immediately with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
