Taken Under His Wing

Summary:
“Is that Mammon again?” Simeon asked with a frown as he eyed the angel who was standing in front of Michael.
“It would appear so.” Lucifer nodded with a small smirk.
“Why is he always getting into trouble?” Raphael shook his head with a sigh. “I wonder what he did this time.”
“Something about selling pigeon feathers, if my sources are correct.” Lucifer said in an amused voice. “Michael really has his work cut out for him with that one, doesn’t he?”

Taken Under His Wing
Lucifer shifted through pages of paperwork in his hands as he walked across the brightly lit hall of the Celestial Realm palace.
As he adjusted his grip, he saw something black slip out from between the pages before it landed on the floor between his feet, making Lucifer look down towards it with a curious expression.
A frown crossed his face as he stooped down to pick up a black parchment envelope before he then turned it over to inspect the golden wax sigil that sealed the envelope shut.
“That’s the royal crest of the Devildom,” Lucifer murmured to himself as his brow furrowed in confusion, “how did this end up mixed in with my work?” He shook his head with a weary sigh.
Just as Lucifer turned the envelope over again, he could hear the unmistakable sound of Michael’s voice, raised in frustration and anger as his voice reverberated throughout the palace hall.
Lucifer’s ears picked up the sound of footsteps stopping beside him as he continued to watch on, only letting his attention waver from Michael to glance at Simeon and Raphael who had joined his side.
“He won’t for much longer,” Simeon murmured more to himself in a troubled voice.
Lucifer’s smirk slowly faltered as he shifted his gaze from Michael and Mammon to look at Simeon instead.
“What do you mean?”
“You haven’t heard?” Simeon shared a glance with Lucifer. “Mammon is already on his final warning. I’ve heard that there have been talks of him losing his wings.”
“Losing his—?” Lucifer stared at Simeon in disbelief. “You mean… like a demotion, right?”
“That’s one way of wording it.” Raphael shrugged.
“One way of wording it?” Lucifer looked toward Raphael with a frown.
“It’s less of a demotion and more of a… fall.” Simeon grimaced at the thought.
Lucifer quickly turned his gaze towards Simeon as his eyes narrowed.
“Are you implying what I think you’re implying?” Lucifer spoke in a voice that was dangerously low.
Lucifer let out a scoff as his question was simply met with apprehensive glances from Simeon and Raphael.
“Absolutely ridiculous,” Lucifer muttered under his breath as shook his head.
“What actually happens to a fallen angel?” Raphael asked as he watched Michael and Mammon with a curious expression. “Would they become a human or would they become a demon?”
“I’m not sure,” Simeon heaved a sigh, “as far as I’m aware, an angel being expelled from the Celestial Realm has never happened before.”
Lucifer’s frown deepened as he listened to Simeon and Raphael, his gaze never leaving the back of Mammon’s head as Michael continued to berate him.
A scowl crossed Lucifer’s face as he shook his head again before he stepped forward and made his way towards Michael and Mammon.
“Lucifer, wait! What are you doing?” Simeon’s eyes widened as he called after Lucifer.
Lucifer let out a quiet chuckle as he glanced over his shoulder at Simeon, “what does it look like? I’m going to stand up for the underdog.”
Lucifer turned his attention back towards Michael and Mammon, and cleared his throat as he approached them.
“It’s not like you to get so riled up like this, Michael.” Lucifer let out a chuckle as he surveyed Michael’s livid expression. “I thought you preferred the stern but calm approach.”
“Lucifer, I am at my wit’s end with this angel!” Michael crossed his arms as he turned towards Lucifer.
Lucifer glances at Mammon and raised an eyebrow as he took in Mammon’s sheepish expression and averted gaze.
“Who? Mammon?” Lucifer feigned surprise. “Surely he can’t be that bad.”
Michael let out a scoff, “I’ve tried to teach him, but he simply doesn’t engage. I’ve tried to be fair with him, but he continues to push his luck. I’ve even tried to punish him, but he still insists on causing trouble and misbehaving.” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “I fear that nothing will get through to him, we have no other choice than to strip him of his w—”
“That’s a bit drastic, don’t you think?” Lucifer cut Michael off and raised an eyebrow at the archangel.
“Then, pray tell me, how would you handle him, Lucifer?” Michael asked as his gaze shifted towards Mammon too.
Lucifer paused for a moment, contemplating his answer before he spoke again.
“Leave Mammon to me.”
Michael and Mammon’s expressions changed to disbelief as they both stared at Lucifer.
“I’ll take over Mammon’s tutelage as long as you give him another chance.” Lucifer continued.
“Wait, for real?” Mammon asked, earning him a silencing look from Lucifer.
A thoughtful expression crossed Michael’s face as he considered Lucifer’s words.
“Alright, fine.” Michael finally relented. “One more chance.” He added as he gave Mammon a warning glare.
“Good.” Lucifer nodded before he then held up the black parchment envelope that he had found amongst his paperwork earlier. “While I’ve got you here, this was mixed in with my work. I believe relations with the Devildom are your domain.” He held the envelope out towards Michael.
Michael let out a small chuckle, “seeing as I’ve been so gracious to give Mammon another chance, why don’t you repay me by doing me a favour and dealing with this one, Lucifer?”
“Now hold on a minute,” Lucifer scowled, “I’ve already taken Mammon’s tutelage off of your hands, I’m not about to take on another one of your duties as some sort of thanks for—”
“Reliable as always. Thanks, Lucifer,” Michael waved off Lucifer’s comment as he turned and began to walk away, “good luck with tutoring Mammon!”
Lucifer’s scowl deepened as he watched Michael leave with a now carefree attitude.
“Typical Michael, always trying to get out of doing his own work.” Lucifer seethed under his breath as he turned the envelope over, placed it on top of the papers in his hand and broke the wax seal to pull out the letter inside. “This better be something quick and easy.”
Mammon watched Lucifer for a moment before he finally spoke up again in a sheepish voice.
“So… hey, Lucifer? Why d’ya stick up for me like that?”
Lucifer glanced at Mammon as he unfolded the parchment in his hand before letting his gaze drop down to the letter.
“Because I felt like it.” He tried to keep his tone as indifferent as possible. He rolled his eyes with a sigh as he read the letter and murmured under his breath, “great, an invitation to go to a diplomatic meeting in the Devildom.”
Lucifer beckoned at Mammon to follow him and as he slowly began to walk back through the hall while Mammon quickly fell into step beside him.
Sensing Mammon’s gaze on him, Lucifer cast a sideways glance at the other angel and quirked an eyebrow.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“You’re really goin’ to be my mentor, huh?” Mammon asked.
“That’s what I told Michael, wasn’t it?”
“So… that means we’re gonna be workin’ together a lot from now on?”
“So it seems.”
“Does that mean we’ll be like… brothers?”
Lucifer let out a small sigh and shook his head, “don’t get too ahead of yourself, Mammon.”

The Fourth-Born
The six brothers heaved a collective sigh of relief as Satan was finally restrained and bound to a chair with chains.
“Dammit, Satan!” Mammon hissed under his breath as he stretched and rolled his shoulder to ease the pain where the unruly demon had struck him earlier during a fit of rage.
“Be thankful that you didn’t take the full brunt of his hit,” Levi murmured as he cast a sideways glance towards a chest of drawers that had been seemingly cleaved in half.
“The damage is getting a bit extensive,” Lucifer sighed wearily, crossing his arms to give Satan a reproachful stare while the wrathful demon glared straight back at him.
“A bit extensive?” Belphie gave Lucifer an incredulous stare. “That’s putting it lightly! Just this morning he tore everything in the attic to shreds! And now look at the state of the dining room!”
Belphie motioned towards the splintered remains of the wooden dining table, the broken glass from the windows, and the chunks of stone that had been blown away from the walls, all of which were now scattered across the floor as a result of Satan’s most recent rampage.
“And when he’s not on a destructive rampage, he just glares at us or distances himself from us,” Beel shook his head with a frown as he glanced towards Satan who could now be heard muttering curses at his brothers under his breath with a threatening aura.
“We can’t really keep him retrained all the time either,” Levi sighed.
“What else are we s’posed to do?” Mammon asked as he surveyed the wrathful demon. “He’s too dangerous, it’s only a matter of time before he seriously hurts someone.”
“… couldn’t we just open the front door and… you know…” Belphie let his sentence trail off with a sweeping motion of his hands.
“You mean just let him go?” Levi frowned. “Can we even do that?”
“He might be happier if we did,” Beel frowned with a thoughtful hum as he looked back over at Satan, “he must be miserable to be restrained almost all of the time.”
“Wouldn’t someone just bring him back anyway?” Mammon pointed out.
“No one is going to be opening any doors and letting Satan go,” Lucifer shook his head with another sigh, “whether you all like it or not, Satan is our brother and therefore our responsibility.”
“Lucifer’s right.” Asmo finally chimed in with a nod of his head as he offered Satan a warm smile. “Besides, Satan is probably having just as hard a time as we are going in adjusting to life in the Devildom. Maybe even more so seeing as he doesn’t share the same closeness that the rest of us do.”
“Maybe he would if he wasn’t so distant and aggressive,” Belphie muttered under his breath.
“Well, maybe we should try to make things a little easier on him.” Asmo pointed out. “We should be more mindful of how he’s feeling too so that he can see that we’re open to start a meaningful connection with him.”
A brief silence fell over the brothers as they stood around Satan and watched him struggle and writhe against his restraints in a fit of rage.
“… I’m sure that would’ve been more meaningful if Satan had actually listened to you…” Levi broke the silence first.
“Maybe you should try saying it again once he’s calmed down a little, Asmo.” Beel suggested.
“I think the moment has already passed,” Mammon said with a frown.
Asmo heaved a small sigh before he spoke up again, “well regardless of whether he heard what I said or not, I think that after everything that’s happened to us, we should all be glad that we’ve gained a younger brother.”
Lucifer stiffened slightly at Asmo’s words before he slowly turned away from Satan to look at his other brothers.
“About that…” Lucifer paused for a moment before he took a deep breath and spoke again, choosing his words carefully. “The designation given to Satan by the Demon King is as the fourth-born, not the seventh-born.”
Silence fell over the brothers.
Asmo stared at Lucifer in disbelief as the information that Lucifer had just given the brothers slowly sunk in before Asmo finally spoke up again.
“You mean to say that he’s my older brother?” Asmo burst angrily as he pointed towards Satan. “Him?”
Lucifer heaved a sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes wearily while he mentally prepared himself for the imminent headache that the conversation would bring, “yes, that is the official designation given to Satan. In order of oldest to youngest, it’s myself, Mammon, Levi, Satan, then you, Beel, and finally Belphie as the youngest brother.”
“But I was here first!” Asmo argued back. “How is that fair? Shouldn’t Satan be the youngest?”
“Asmo.” Lucifer gave Asmo a stern look as he spoke in a warning tone.
“You guys agree with me, right?” Asmo ignored Lucifer’s warning as he turned towards the twins instead.
He then watched as Beel and Belphie shared a glance with each other before they both then shrugged in unison.
“I’m not bothered,” Beel said in an indifferent voice.
“I don’t mind being the youngest,” Belphie mused aloud, “the youngest siblings are typically spoiled by their older brothers anyway, so I can live with that.”
“I don’t think you’re supposed to admit that part out loud,” Levi frowned as he shook his head at Belphie.
“No! We were all here first!” Asmo pouted as he crossed his arms over his chest with an irritable huff and turned his back on his brothers. “It only makes sense that Satan should be the younest!”
“What happened to that ‘I’m glad to have another brother’ attitude you had just a moment ago, huh?” Mammon teased Asmo with a smirk as he ruffled Asmo’s hair while Asmo glowered up at him and pushed his hand away.
“It’s what the Demon King has decided, so there’s no point in arguing over it now.” Lucifer spoke with a tone of finality.
“Actually, Asmo does kind of have a point.” Levi said with a thoughtful hum, earning himself a warning glare from Lucifer. “Why did the Demon King decide to designate Satan as the fourth-born? It doesn’t really make sense.”
Asmo quickly rounded on Lucifer again, “right! Exactly! Levi’s right, it doesn’t make sense! So why did the Demon King choose to make Satan the fourth-born?”
Lucifer stiffened for a moment, bracing himself for another outburst from Asmo before he spoke again.
“Because our age designations have been given to us in ranks of our power.”
Another silence fell over the brothers, broken once again by Asmo.
“Are you kidding me?” Asmo stomped his foot angrily. “How is he stronger than any of us? Beel was the one who restrained him just now! Doesn’t that make Beel the stronger brother? And what about my charm? No one can resist that, not even you, Lucifer!”
“Oh for the love of—” Lucifer shook his head with a weary sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose again. Lucifer then took on his stern demeanour again. “That’s it. This is the decision made by the Demon King. End of discussion!”
“No!” Asmo protested. “I'm reopening the discussion! Why does this little brat get to outrank any of us after being here for just five minutes?”
“Who are you calling a ‘little brat’?” Satan spoke in a quiet but venomous voice, having finally stopped struggling against his binds to fix Asmo with a furious glare.
“You!” Asmo retorted just as angrily as he rounded on Satan.
Satan struggled against his chains with renewed vigour.
“Let me go! Let me go so I can tear this moron limb from limb!”
“Not unless I tear you limb from limb first! Then we’ll see who outranks who in terms of power!”
Asmo clenched his fists as he lunged forward towards Satan, only to be immediately stopped by Beel who swiftly stepped behind Asmo and linked his arms under Asmo’s to hold the Avatar of Lust firmly in place.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Satan let out a content hum, settled back against the headboard of his bed and smiled to himself as he turned the page of his book and let his eyes scan over each word with rapt attention.
His focus was only broken by the sound of his bedroom door opening, causing a flicker of annoyance to cross his face before he heard the sound of Amo’s chipper hum.
“Satan~!” Asmo called out as he walked across the room towards the fourth-born. “How much do you love your little brother?”
The pang of annoyance that Satan had felt earlier immediately evaporated as he slowly looked up at Asmo with an arched eyebrow.
“That depends. What are you after?”
Asmo grinned as he replied, “I bought some new outfits and I want to take the most Devilgramable photo, a selfie won’t cut it this time! So I need a certain smart demon to help me get the right angles and right lighting. What do you say, Satan? Will you help me out?”
Satan remained silent for a moment as he surveyed Asmo with a contemplative expression before he finally closed the book in his lap with a small chuckle.
“Sure, I’ll help you, but only because I’m your older brother.”
Catastrophic Candles
[Happy Valentine’s Day]
You were walking down the cobbled streets of the Devildom when a large, pink sign in the window of Majolish caught your eye.
You retraced your steps until you were standing in front of the window where you saw a vast amount of red, pink and lilac candles neatly displayed with red and pink heart shaped balloons and rose petals.
Your eyes trailed up towards the sign instead.
Limited Edition Catastrophic Candles!
New Mystery Variety!
Valentine's Day Sale: 25% Off!
You smiled to yourself as you recalled the effects of the catastrophic candles last time you gifted them to everyone and couldn't help but wonder what surprises the new variety would have in store as you entered Majolish.
You couldn't wait to give him the catastrophic candle.
Lucifer:
As always, this demon's pride swells when you give him gifts, not that he would be willing to admit that too loudly though.
"This is a pleasant surprise. Thank you, Mc."
Lucifer gave you an appreciative smile and a small nod as he accepted the gift from you with promises to return the favour in abundance.
Later that night, Lucifer was toasting the completion of his work and Valentine's Day by indulging himself with a glass of demonus infused with golden hellfire newt syrup while he listened to his favourite cursed records alone in his study when the candle that you had gifted him caught his eye.
“It would be a shame not to light it," he reasoned with himself as he set his glass of demonus down on the table to pick up the candle instead, and took the candle out of its packaging before he then lit the wick.
It was only as Lucifer sank back into one of the armchairs with his demonus and felt the magic of the candle take effect that he realised his mistake as he was overcome with a strong sense of desire, making him begin to feel hot and bothered.
He usually wasn't bothered by the effects of catastrophic candles or golden hellfire newt syrup, at least not enough to act upon the impulses that they came with so easily anyway, but they proved to be quite a potent combination.
He ran his hands through his hair, loosened his tie and unfastened the top few buttons of his shirt in hopes that this might help ease his sudden frustration.
It took all of Lucifer's willpower to keep himself in check, that was until he heard a soft knock on his office door.
"You may enter," Lucifer called out after he tried to straighten out his dishevelled state as quickly as he could.
You slowly opened the door and peered inside, having made a steaming mug of coffee for Lucifer after you had grown worried that Lucifer was still working late into the night.
Your eyes trailed over Lucifer's unkempt appearance before you finally spotted the bottle of golden hellfire newt syrup beside the bottle of demonus and the flame flickering on the wick of the catastrophic candle on the table by the armchair.
"I thought you might want some coffee to keep you doing... " you spoke in a slow voice as you pieced everything together.
He remained still and silent for a few moments and watched as you stood in the doorway, he felt his heartbeat accelerate as even just a glance at you made his desire grow by leaps and bounds.
He quickly rose to his feet and turned to face you as he beckoned you to come closer.
You complied with his silent request and crossed over the threshold into Lucifer's study, only for the prideful demon to close the distance between you in a few impatient strides before he closed the door behind you as he leant in close until he was eye level with you.
You felt your back press up against the door the further he learnt in towards you, and watched as a devilish smirk grew on Lucifer's lips.
“That was quite a bold gift," Lucifer chuckled as he gently lifted your chin to turn your face up towards his before he then moved closer to whisper into your ear, "I do hope that you're prepared for the consequences, Mc, because I won't be letting you leave my side tonight."
Mammon:
Mammon's eyes instantly lit up with excitement the moment you gave him the catastrophic candle as a gift.
You watched as Mammon let out a delightful chuckle as he turned the candle over in his hands and examined it closely.
"Of course ya would get The Great Mammon a Valentine's Day gift," Mammon grinned brightly, "I am your first, after all!"
Mammon was torn between showing off his gift to his brothers to tease them and hiding away to keep your gift all to himself.
He ultimately decided to return to his bedroom to keep the candle to himself. He placed the candle on the coffee table in front of his sofa and made sure he snapped a picture of the candle to send to his brothers in the House of Lamentation group chat later before he then looked around his room for a box of matches, lit the candle and stood back to admire your gift.
The candle's magic took effect quickly and Mammon was suddenly overwhelmed with a wave of passion and longing that only intensified more and more by the second.
Mammon quickly felt his panic rise too as he rushed to blow out the candle as fast as he could, but his panic only increased when he realised that the effects of the candle were still present even after he had extinguished the flame.
"GAAAAAAAH!"
Mammon began to pace restlessly around his room and ran his hand through his hair in an attempt to calm himself as he became more and more flustered by the feelings of passion and longing still lingered.
As he turned to pace his room again, Mammon suddenly saw you standing at his bedroom door, making him give a startled jump with a small yelp.
Seeing you standing in his room didn't help ease the intense feelings that the candle's magic had inflicted upon him, if anything your presence only exacerbated them.
He quickly cleared his throat, brushing off his initial reaction to your presence and putting on a confident voice as he spoke up.
"Ya want somethin', Mc?"
Despite his façade, you weren't fooled. You could definitely see the pink tinge of a blush creeping onto his cheeks and you quickly speculated that it had something to do with the catastrophic candle as you noticed the burnt wick.
You finally spoke up, "I thought I heard you groan in frustration so I came to make sure that you were okay."
“Yeah, I'm fine," Mammon's voice was quick and dismissive, "why wouldn't I be anythin' but fine?"
You gave a small nod and turned to leave, only to feel Mammon suddenly grab your hand, making you turn back towards him.
Mammon swallowed before he spoke again.
"S-say... d'ya have to leave right now?" The blush on Mammon's cheeks deepened as he averted his eyes from you. "I... um... I could kinda do with some company, if ya get what I mean..."
He gave you a gentle pull towards himself as he spoke, wanting nothing more than to keep you as close to himself as possible.
After the ordeal that the catastrophic candle had brought him, Mammon decided to place the candle on a shelf as a keepsake than ever light it again.
Leviathan:
Levi recalled the events of the last time you had given him a catastrophic candle as he closed his bedroom door and examined the candle in his hand.
Although the last candle you had given him had accidentally sent him to sleep, he couldn't help but hope that you had given him the competitive candle this time round.
He unwrapped the candle without paying much attentions to the tag that was attached to the pink and red ribboned cellophane wrap and set the candle down on the small side table beside the bathtub in his bedroom after deciding that this would be the optimal placement to feel the full competitive effects of the candle's magic.
Levi then lit the candle's wick and excitedly sent you a text on his D.D.D, he was eager to start gaming with you as soon as possible. He then threw his D.D.D onto the pillow in his bathtub before he turned his attention to getting console controllers ready for you both to play games together.
As the wick flickered and burned, Levi's excitement rapidly plummeted as he realised the nature of the effect that the candle caused while a sensation of lustful longing overcame him.
Levi scrambled for the pink and red ribbon from the discarded cellophane wrapping and ripped the tag from the ribbon to confirm his fears.
Valentine's Day Limited Edition: Mystery Emotion.
He felt the heat rise to his face as his cheeks turned bright red.
"Damn normie holidays!" Levi hissed under his breath in frustration.
He froze and felt his heart skip a beat as the realisation that he had sent you a text message to invite you to his room dawned upon him.
“No, no, no, no!"
Levi's panic increased as he rushed back over to his bathtub to reach for his D.D.D and frantically began to type out a new text message.
"I can't let Mc come to my room! No way!"
Before he could even send the message to tell you not to come to his room, Levi heard a soft knock on his door, making him freeze in his place as his thumb hovered over the send button while his heart pounded fast and hard in his chest.
He considered remaining silent and pretending that he wasn't in his room, but that idea was quickly dashed as he realised that this wouldn't make sense after he had invited you to his room.
Levi was still in his panic induced state when he heard your voice call through his bedroom door.
“Levi, I'm coming in!"
He didn't know whether to duck and hide or extinguish the candle before you entered the room, and somehow ended up doing both as he threw himself down behind the bathtub and knocked the candle off of the side table with an accidental nudge of his foot.
He felt his hard beating hard and fast in his chest and held his breath as he heard you enter his room.
"Levi...?" You frowned as you spotted him. You stooped down to pick up the candle that was now on the floor and still smoking from the wick as you spoke. "What are you doing down there?"
“A-ah! M-Mc!" Levi forced himself to give a feeble laugh as he looked up at you and slowly sat upright again, he turned his face to hide his flushed expression as he sheepishly held up one of his console controllers. "I... uh... I dropped my controller under the tub..."
He couldn't quite meet your gaze as you played games that day and it wasn't until later that night that you remembered the burnt wick of the candle and realised why.
Satan:
Satan was pleasantly surprised when you sought him out in the kitchen as he was cooking dinner to give him the candle.
His eyes widened a little as he held the candle up to examine it closely before he turned to you with a warm smile that he seemed to reserve for you, and you alone.
“Thank you, Mc. I appreciate it, I'll make sure to get you something special in return."
He made sure to put the candle in his bedroom straight away, feeling more at ease to have the gift that you had given him away from the prying eyes of the other demon brothers, before returning to his duty of making dinner.
Later that night, Satan had stayed up late as he had become enthralled in one of his favourite detective novels.
He put the book down in his lap for a moment as he closed his eyes and rolled his shoulders to ease the stiffness out of them, he hadn't realised how hunched his posture had become as he read.
Satan slowly opened his eyes again and cast his eyes around his dimly lit bedroom until his gaze fell upon the candle that you had gifted him that was currently on his bedside table.
A smile crossed his face as he instantly thought of you.
He could already imagine the ambience of reading by the light of the candle and was eager to feel your warmth through the candle's flame as he resumed his reading.
So he made quick work of lighting the candle before he settled back against the headboard of his bed with a pillow and picked his book up again.
At first, he enjoyed seeing the flame dance in his peripheral vision and definitely felt a serene warmth come over him.
That was until that warmth became an intense heat that quickly turned into what felt like a burning desire that engulfed him.
Satan's breathing became shallow as his grip on the book in his hands tightened and his whole body stiffened.
He then snatched up the tag that had been attached to the candle and read it carefully.
A Catastrophic Candle, his fist clenched around the card tag in his hand, how could I not have realised sooner?
He tried his best to keep his attention and focus on reading, but the magic from the candle only continued to intensify his feelings and his mind soon wandered to you.
“Tch!"
Satan was quickly overwhelmed by the effects of the catastrophic candle and abandoned his resolve as he quickly got to his feet, throwing the book in his hands down on his bed in an uncharacteristically careless manner, before he then left his bedroom and headed through the House of Lamentation until he finally reached your bedroom door.
“Mc?" He called out to you as he knocked on your door and waited until he heard your muffled voice from within before he opened the door and let himself inside.
“Satan?" Your voice was groggy and still thick with sleep as you sat up in your bed with a yawn. "It's so late... did something happen...?"
"I just felt the need to see you," Satan replied as he crossed the room to approach you.
As he moved closer, you could see the blush that tinted his cheeks.
"Would you mind if I stayed by your side and held you tonight, Mc?"
Asmodeus:
Asmo would be lying if he said that he didn't recognise the catastrophic candle almost immediately.
He had seen the special Valentine's Day catastrophic candles trending over Devilgram and had seen videos on Deviltube of other Devildom influencers enthusing about them and advertising them.
You missed the familiarity in his eyes as he saw you extend the candle towards him with a smile.
"Is that a present for me?" Asmo gave a small gasp and placed a hand on his chest as a smile crept across his own face. "Awh, you shouldn't have, Mc!"
He couldn't hide his excitement as he accepted your gift, having seen and heard so much about them, he was eager to get his hands on one to see what all the fuss was about.
After he returned to his bedroom, Asmo wasted no time in setting up the perfect display on his vanity table.
He placed the candle on a silk cloth and angled his D.D.D just right to catch all sides of the candle in the reflection of the mirrors as he sprinkled red and pink rose petals over the candle as he snapped some photos, excited to show his gift from you off on Devilgram. And to the demon brothers' group chat, of course.
Asmo couldn't help but snap a few selfies of himself holding and posing with the catastrophic candle too.
He smiled softly to himself as he finally set the candle down again, found a box of matches that he usually used for his other scented candles and incense, and lit the wick of the catastrophic candle.
While he waited for the candle's magic to take effect, Asmo flicked through the photos and selfies that he had just taken on his D.D.D while his mind began to wander with ideas for how he would repay you for your gift.
A small frown of disappointment crossed his face as he felt no different than usual.
He began to wonder if the excitable comments from the Devildom influencers and trending posts about the candles had been overexaggerated for the sake of boosting sales.
"No matter, I can always appreciate and use the candle from Mc anyw—"
As Asmo moved to extinguish the flame, the magic suddenly hit him.
He could feel his heartbeat rapidly accelerating as he was overcome with an urge to seek you out.
It didn't take long for him to act upon his impulses as he rushed out of his room and wandered through the House of Lamentation, his pace picked up in desperation with every passing second until he finally spotted you washing the dishes in the kitchen.
He approached you as quietly as possible and wrapped his arms around your waist from behind as a smile spread across his face when he felt you give a startled jump.
“A-Asmo?" You glanced back at the demon over your shoulder with a surprised expression.
“That's right, Mc~!" Asmo chimed happily before humming a victory fanfare for you and flashing a grin at you as his arms squeezed you a little tighter.
You couldn't help the smile that played on your lips as you replied to him in the soft voice, "I'm a little busy at the moment."
Asmo gave you a small pout as he heaved a sigh, "you're too busy to pay even just a little bit of attention to the most beautiful demon in the whole Devildom?"
Even with your face turned towards the kitchen sink, he saw your smile widen a little.
"That's what I thought," he chuckled before he lowered his voice to a whisper, "I love your gift by the way."
Beelzebub:
A small frown of confusion crossed Beel's face as he took the candle from your hands and stared down at it.
"Is this for me?"
His frown was quickly replaced with a smile when you nodded your head at him.
"Thanks, Mc."
Beel instantly recognised your gift as a catastrophic candle and recalled the last time you had given him one, it had altered his mind to make him act more like a butler.
He was more optimistic about the effects that the catastrophic candle would have this time though as he took the candle back to his and Belphie's bedroom and lit the wick.
Soon after he had lit the candle, Beel felt a burning drive begin to take over him and felt confident that he had received a catastrophic candle imbued with magic that made him feel competitive and energised.
Beel felt positive that with the help of the candle's magic he would be able to work in a few more sets of weights training into his pre-dinner workout routine to help him build up more of an appetite.
Except the candle's magic seemed to work well... too well.
The longer the candle burned, the more Beel could feel himself becoming worked up to the point that he should have been over exerting himself.
He let out grunts of frustration as each of his movements became more and more forceful to push himself beyond his limits.
He set his weights down and panted for breath as he grabbed a towel to wipe away his sweat.
A frown formed on his lips as he soon realised that the driven feeling he had felt when he lit the candle continued to increase and made him feel more restless despite the strenuous workout.
Without the distraction of his exercising, Beel's mind quickly turned towards you and he felt the heat rise to his cheeks as his thoughts only made his feelings more intense.
Beel's gaze turned towards the catastrophic candle as he quickly realised the true effect of its magic.
He moved closer to it with the intention of extinguishing the flame, but quickly froze in his tracks as a sense of guilt overcame him.
His attention was drawn away from the catastrophic candle as a knocking sound reached his ears before you stepped into his room with an armful of packets of spicy newt chips.
"Hey Beel," you greeted him with a smile, "I thought you could do with a mid-workout snack."
Beel quickly averted his gaze from you and shuffled uncomfortably on the spot.
You noticed the blush on his cheeks that seemed to deepen as you walked towards him with the spicy newt chips.
"Beel?" You tried to call out to him again before your eyes flitted towards the burning candle instead and a look of understanding crossed your face. "Why don't you blow the candle out for now?"
Beel shook his head as he replied with a guilty expression, "if I blow the candle out, I'm not appreciating the gift that you gave me."
"That's not true," you reassured him as you extinguished the candle for him.
Beel gave you a small, grateful nod and was as you then put the packets of spicy newt chips down on his bed before you then turned towards the door and began to cross the room again.
“I'll come and get you when dinner is ready," you gave him a smile as you spoke.
“Wait!" Beel moved towards you to hold your hand, his cheeks turned redder and redder as he looked down at your intertwined fingers. "Can you stay with me a little longer? I can really do with your help if that's okay."
Belphegor:
"Hm?" Belphie tilted his head to one side as you presented the candle to him, his eyes surveyed the candle closely. "Is this a Valentine's Day gift for me?"
A soft smile crossed Belphie's face as you nodded your head before he took the candle from your hands in both of his own, he turned it over in his hands as he inspected the cellophane wrapped candle and the decorative pink and red ribbons.
“Thanks, it's nice." He gave you a small, appreciative nod.
He continued to examine the candle as he headed up towards the attic.
He could tell that there was a slight scent to the candle through the cellophane wrapping that he couldn't quite put his finger on, but he was sure that he could hint a flowery scent such as lavender, rose or jasmine.
Knowing that these were all good scents to help aid sleep, Belphie was eager to get to the attic where he set the candle down on the table beside the bed and lit the wick.
Belphie laid down on the bed with a yawn and turned onto his side.
Another smile crossed his face as he watched the flame flicker and dance on the candle's wick and watched the wax slowly begin to melt for a moment before he slowly closed his eyes and relaxed his body with a deep, content sigh.
Soon the air in the room felt heavy and was filled with the scent of the candle, adding to Belphie's contentment.
He was drifting in and out of consciousness on the cusp of falling asleep when his eyes flew open and his breath hitched with a jolt of his body as a sudden burning sensation of longing ignited within him.
He tried his best to ignore the feelings that were stirring up from within him and forced himself to close his eyes again in an attempt to fall asleep, but the candle continued to burn, the more the magic's effect took hold of him.
He tossed and turned from side to side restlessly, and even grabbed his favourite pillow and hugged it tightly to his chest in hopes that it would help alleviate some of his frustration.
He let out a frustrated groan as he pulled his pillow over his head.
He remained still until he heard the muffled sound of footsteps and the attic door opening.
He slowly lifted the pillow off of his head and rolled over onto his side only for his eyes to find you standing in the doorway.
"Hey, dinner's ready!" You called out to Belphie and then watched as he slowly sat up on the bed.
A small smirk played on his lips as Belphie maintained eye contact with you and patted the bed beside him.
At his silent invitation, you walked across the room and sat down on the edge of the bed, only for Belphie to move in close from behind you before his arms snaked around your waist and he pulled you closer towards him, letting his chin rest on your shoulder.
“That's some pretty potent magic," he murmured into your ear in an amused tone, "that's one of those catastrophic candles, right? Who would've thought that they'd make one with this kind of effect, huh?"
You followed his gaze towards the burning candle on the bedside table as realisation dawned upon you.
Belphie's smirk grew as he spotted your expression of realisation.
"You're not going to leave me in this state... are you, Mc?"
Aftermath
Prompt: I don’t want to talk
Mammon passed through silent hallways as he grimaced at the unfamiliar stone walls of the House of Lamentation, only slowing his pace as his gaze wandered towards the equally unfamiliar floors where he spotted a large, splintered piece of polished wood.
He winced through the sharp pain in his joints as he stooped down to pick up the wood before he returned to his full height with a frown as he finally noticed a trail of fragmented wood leading further through the hallway and into a nearby room.
He tentatively approached the room and peered inside, only to find the remains of a grand piano scattered all over the room along with the stuffing from the sofa and the feathers from the cushions, and deep scratch marks etched into the wall.
Amongst the debris of what was once the music room, Mammon could make out Satan’s figure curled in on himself with his tail wrapped around himself, laying on top of a tattered frayed rug on the floor.
Mammon heaved a weary sigh, he was inwardly thankful that the unrelentingly angry demon had exhausted himself enough to finally pass out after yet another tantrum.
He didn’t dare step further into the room in fear of waking Satan and causing the rage-induced rampage to continue. Mammon backed away from the doorway of the music room as quietly as he could before he continued onwards through the hallway towards the common room instead, picking up the larger pieces of splintered wood and moving them aside as he walked to make the hallway a little safer to trek through.
Mammon paused in the doorway of the common room, his eyes fell over the floor in front of the sofas where he could see of Asmo, Beel and Belphie huddled close together with their blankets and pillows on the rug in front of the fireplace, their silhouette forms visible thanks to the dying embers. He remained in the doorway, watching over his younger brothers as they restlessly stirred in their sleep in an attempt to move closer to each other and maintain their comforting hold on each other.
Mammon eyes slowly moved towards a first aid kit that the three younger brothers had left nearby, the contents of which had been removed from their packagings and left strewn about with pieces of gauze and a bowl of water.
He crossed the room as quietly as possible so as not to wake his brothers and pushed through his own aches and pains to stoop down to pick up the discarded packaging and gauze, dropping them into the waste bin. He then tidied the unneeded dressings, gauze and plasters back into the first aid kit before he placed the bowl of water onto the coffee table that had been pushed out of the way.
Mammon straightened up to his full height again, pausing only to pull the blanket back up over Belphie’s shoulder before he headed back towards the common room door with the first aid kit in his hand and gave the three huddled brothers one last glance before he stepped out of the room and closed the door behind him.
After leaving the common room, Mammon quietly crept up the stairs, silently counting his brothers off on his fingers and noted that he had now checked on Satan, Asmo and the twins. His eyes fell upon Levi’s bedroom door as a certain recluse came to his mind, seeing that Levi had left his bedroom door ajar and a dim light was emitting from within.
He pushed the door open a little wider to peer into the room, he instantly found Levi sitting in the bathtub as he scrolled through his D.D.D while shrouded by a blanket that he had draped over his head like a hood. Mammon could just see a set of headphones that were clasped over Levi’s ears beneath the blanket.
Noticing the movement of his bedroom door, Levi glanced up at Mammon, making eye contact with his older brother.
Mammon gave Levi an understanding nod, which Levi returned before he slowly turned his attention back towards the D.D.D in his hands.
Mammon retracted his head from the room and made sure to close the door properly before he then walked further along the hallway to Lucifer’s bedroom and gave the closed wooden door a gentle knock.
Mammon waited.
And waited.
But even after another, slightly louder knock, he heard no answer from within Lucifer’s bedroom.
With a small sigh, Mammon pushed the handle of the door down and entered the room anyway.
He quickly spotted Lucifer sitting in one of the armchairs near the fireplace, leaning forwards in the armchair with his elbows resting on his knees and his hands clasped in front of his face while the dim light emitting from the fireplace cast a silhouette around the eldest brother.
Mammon watched as Lucifer slowly and sluggishly turned his head in Mammon’s direction as the second-born entered the bedroom, staring in Mammon’s direction with unfocused eyes for what seemed like only a fraction of a second before he quickly turned his head to look away again without a single word.
He eyed Lucifer carefully as he walked across the room, noting how Lucifer turned his head further away from him to avoid meeting Mammon’s gaze as he stared into the glowing embers within the fireplace instead. Yet Mammon still saw how Lucifer’s hands shook slightly while he tried to maintain what little composure he had left, Mammon saw that Lucifer’s hair looked as though it had been pushed back repeatedly, leaving a few missed strands to fall into his face, the dark circles beneath Lucifer’s eyes that marked every sleepless night that he had had since their descent to the Devildom, along with the empty and defeated look in Lucifer’s eyes.
The glow of the embers in the grate of the fireplace only seemed to make Lucifer’s expression seem more worn and tired.
Upon closer inspection, Mammon also noted the wounds on Lucifer’s hands that were red and inflamed from lack of care and treatment. Mammon had no doubt that Lucifer was using this as some form of self-punishment.
A state that Mammon had never seen the once acclaimed and beloved archangel of the Celestial Realm in before, and an uncharacteristic image vulnerability that Mammon was sure he wouldn’t soon forget.
Mammon’s eyes slowly moved from Lucifer to the low table nearby where he could see an empty glass and a bottle of Demonus that was almost three quarters empty, explaining Lucifer’s sluggish movements earlier.
The silence in the room was only broken by the sound of the dying embers popping in the fireplace and the slight rustle of Mammon’s clothes as he proceeded to step forwards towards Lucifer.
Mammon forced himself to push his own aches and pains to the back of his mind for Lucifer’s sake as he knelt down on the floor in front of Lucifer, opened the first aid kit and prepared some antiseptic and gauze before he then stared up at Lucifer expectantly.
Lucifer’s eyes flitted towards Mammon’s before he silently and somewhat reluctantly unclasped his hands and held one of them out towards Mammon.
Mammon noticed that Lucifer’s shoulders tensed and the older demon took a sharp, inward breath through gritted teeth as Mammon used the antiseptic and cause to clean Lucifer’s wounds, making Mammon instantly pause in his movements to look up at Lucifer.
Lucifer closed his eyes and gave a small nod of his head, letting Mammon continue to tend to his wounds with a much more gentle touch this time.
Mammon stole another glance at Lucifer as the older demon slowly reached towards the bottle of Demonus on the table with his free hand to pour another drink.
Lucifer’s hands still shook, making the bottle rattle against the rim of the glass. He only half-filled his glass before quickly putting the bottle back down on the table beside it with a small thud, but Lucifer didn’t pick the glass up to drink its contents. He instead withdrew his hand to rest on his own knee while Mammon continued to tend to the wounds on his other hand.
Mammon let his eye flit up towards Lucifer’s face once more, seeing that the other demon had finally, slowly met his gaze for the first time since their fall. Mammon could see the grief, guilt and regret etched into Lucifer’s eyes.
Lucifer took a deep breath and opened his mouth to speak, but Mammon instantly cut him off before the eldest had the chance to speak a single word.
“I know.”
Mammon’s voice was a quiet murmur, but they seemed to be enough to give Lucifer the comfort he sought as the pair then shared an understanding look before letting the silence envelope them again while Mammon continued to tend to Lucifer’s injuries.
An Unexpected Sleepover
An Unexpected Sleepover
The low creak of his bedroom door and the sound of muffled footsteps reached his ears, making Lucifer’s eyes snap open as he abruptly woke up from his sleep. He quickly turned on a lamp on his bedside table and sat up in his bed to sternly glare at whichever one of his brothers was foolish enough to try to sneak up on him in his sleep only to be met with a pair of unfocused purple eyes beneath dark, tousled hair.
Lucifer stared at Belphie expectantly with a bewildered expression while he waited for the youngest brother to say something.
His eyes followed the Avatar of Sloth as he slowly staggered to the other side of Lucifer’s bed and pulled the covers back with one hand while he tiredly rubbed his eyes with the other and yawned.
“Belphie.” Lucifer called out to the other demon in a low, warning tone — making Belphie pause in his movements. “This isn’t your bed, you’re sleepwalking again.”
“Hm?” Belphie gave a small hum before he pulled the duvet back even further, clambered into the bed beside Lucifer and he pulled the duvet over himself, nestling into the soft pillows as he murmured, “I’m tired.”
Lucifer heaved a weary sigh as he shook his head and rolled his eyes irritably, “fine, but you’re sleeping in your own bed tomorrow night!”
He reached for the lamp again to flick the switch off before he laid back down and stared up at the dark ceiling while he listened to Belphie’s slow, deep breaths as he tried to fall back to sleep.
His body slowly began to relax and he finally struggled to keep his eyes open. With a small, content sigh Lucifer settled his head more comfortably into his pillow as he felt his mind ease and his consciousness drift off.
BANG!
“Lucifer!”
He jolted awake and quickly sat up again as his bedroom door flew open and a light shone brightly from the doorway.
“Ngh!” Lucifer grunted irritably and raised his hand in an attempt to shield his eyes from the light. “Mammon! Don’t point your torch in my face!” He snapped at the silhouetted figure in his bedroom doorway. “And don’t yell, you’ll wake Belph…” His sentence trailed off as he turned his head to look at Belphie who was still fast asleep. “… nevermind, he’ll sleep through anything.”
“Lucifer!” Mammon ignored the older brother’s comment as he crossed the room to stand beside Lucifer’s bed and spoke in a panicked voice. “I think I heard a growlin’ noise from downstairs.”
“So?” Lucifer replied, he pushed Mammon’s arm down to get the light away from his face and turned on the small lamp on his bedside instead.
“So go and check it out!”
Lucifer gave the second born a long, searching stare before he pulled his duvet off with an irritable huff.
“Wait here.” Lucifer instructed as he pushed himself off of his mattress, stepped into his slippers and headed out of his bedroom door, pausing only to grab his dressing gown before he crossed the threshold and made his way down the stairs.
“It was probably just Cerberus.” Lucifer muttered under his breath as he wandered through the hallway and glanced around each doorframe.
He did a double take as he walked past the library.
“Satan?”
Lucifer found the Avatar of Wrath sitting in an armchair where he was absorbed in a book that was resting in his lap by the dim light of a dying candle, he was too focused on the story to even notice that Lucifer had called out to him.
“Satan.” Lucifer tried again in a more forceful voice.
Satan’s eyes continued to race across each sentence at lightning speed before he quickly turned to the next page.
“Oh for the love of—” Lucifer rolled his eyes and he moved closer to Satan before taking the book out of his brother’s lap.
“Hey!” Satan tried to snatch the book back and glowered as Lucifer moved it further out of his reach. “I was reading that!”
“It’s half past three in the morning, Satan.” Lucifer pointed out in a weary voice. “And, if I recall, you agreed to help Solomon with an experiment in the morning, didn’t you?”
“That doesn’t mean you get to just walk in here and take my book! ” Satan snapped. “Besides, it’s not like I’m bothering anyone!”
“Fine,” Lucifer relented with a sigh as he handed the book back to Satan and watched as the fourth born eagerly rifled through the pages to find his place again, “just don’t moan at me if you’re tired tomorrow.”
“Like I would,” Satan scoffed as he settled back more comfortably into his armchair and began to read again.
“How long have you been sitting down here?”
“All night, why?”
“Mammon said he heard something growling earlier, any ideas?”
“It was probably just Cerberus.” Satan replied dismissively without looking up from his books.
“My thoughts exactly.”
“But I did see Beel heading towards the kitchen not too long ago,” Satan murmured in an afterthought, “I don’t think I saw him go back upstairs, maybe it was just his stomach growling or something.”
Lucifer gave a nod before he turned his back on Satan, left the library and continued through the hallway until he finally reached the kitchen where a certain gluttonous demon was searching through the cupboards.
Lucifer cleared his throat, making the other demon give a startled jump before he slowly peered around the door of the kitchen cupboard to stare at Lucifer.
“Lucifer.” Beel greeted the Avatar of Pride as he closed the cupboard door with a guilty expression.
“I’m glad you’re here, Beel.”
“You are?”
“Yes, Belphie has been sleepwalking again and he’s fallen asleep in my bed,” Lucifer explained, “if you wouldn’t mind coming for him, I would very much appreciate it.”
“Oh,” a smile spread across Beel’s face, “sure.”
Lucifer crossed his arms as his eyes lingered over the cupboard beside Beel while the younger brother shuffled on the spot timidly as he carefully watched Lucifer’s expression.
“If you’re looking for Asmo’s wicked cupcakes, he hid them on that shelf over there,” Lucifer added with a small nod towards the highest shelf near the cooking fireplace, “they’re behind the jug, I’ll turn a blind eye this time as long as you make sure that you replace them before he notices that they’re gone,” he added before he pivoted on the spot and headed back towards the staircase.
A small smile played on his lips as he heard Beel move towards the shelf that he had nodded towards the instant he had stepped out of the kitchen and he cast a curious glance into the library as he passed to see Satan still reading in the armchair.
“I’m getting way too lenient with them,” he murmured to himself and shook his head with a small chuckle as he ascended the staircase.
He crossed the threshold into his bedroom where Mammon was sitting on the edge of his bed and Belphie was still fast asleep under the duvet.
Mammon stared up at the older brother expectantly.
“It was just Beel.” Lucifer told him as he shrugged off his dressing gown and draped it over the nearby sofa. “You can stop panicking now.”
“I wasn’t panicking,” Mammon said with a forced laugh, “I was just tellin’ ya what I heard.”
“You know, you should really stop watching horror movies before bedtime with Levi and Satan if they’re going to get you worked up like this every time.” Lucifer said pointedly.
“Whaddya mean? I love horror movies!”
“I could hear you screaming from my study.”
“That was probably Levi,” Mammon tried to brush off Lucifer’s comment as he stood up from the bed, “anyway, it’s getting late, night!”
Relief coursed through Lucifer as he pulled his duvet back, turned his bedside lamp off and finally laid down in his bed again.
“... say Lucifer?” Mammon’s hesitant voice issued from somewhere in the darkness.
“Mm?”
“So… uh… can I sleep in your room tonight?”
“No.”
“Thanks,” Mammon said as climbed under the duvet beside Lucifer.
“What the—?” Lucifer sat up in bewilderment. “I said no, Mammon! Hey, are you even listening to me?” He snapped angrily.
“G’night, Lucifer.” Mammon muttered in a tired voice as he flopped down onto the pillow.
“What part of ‘no’ are you having trouble—”
“Lucifer?” Beel’s voice reached his ears, followed by the low creak of his bedroom door as it was pushed open again. “I came for Belphie like you asked.”
“Thank goodness,” Lucifer said under his breath with a sigh as he reached over Mammon to turn the lamp on once more and watched as Beel moved around to the side of the bed where Belphie was still in a deep sleep.
“Mammon?” A confused expression crossed Beel’s face as he spotted the Avatar of Greed too. “What are you doing here?”
“He’s too scared to sleep in his own bed,” Lucifer replied in a blunt tone.
“I am not!” Mammon huffed. “I’m just too tired to go back to my own room.”
“I see,” Beel nodded before he then pulled the duvet off of Belphie.
“Thank you,” Lucifer gave him an appreciative nod.
Lucifer's expression quickly turned to confusion and then to annoyance as he watched Beel lay down beside Belphie and pull the duvet back over them.
“Beel—”
“Belphie sleeps better when I’m around.” Beel shrugged as he settled into the pillow.
“So take him back to your room!” Lucifer argued.
“But Belphie looks comfortable, I don’t want to disturb him when he’s sleeping so peacefully.”
Lucifer massaged his forehead with an irritable groan, “fine, but you’re all sleeping in your own beds tomorrow night!”
He turned to reach over Mammon to turn the lamp off again when a figure in his doorway caught his eye. Satan stared at each of his brothers with a curious look on his face before his eyes met Lucifer’s and a mischievous grin played on his lips.
“All that reading made me feel tired,” Satan said with a fake yawn as he crossed the room towards the bed.
“Don’t you dare.” Lucifer warned Satan in a low voice.
“Hey Mammon,” Satan continued, ignoring Lucifer’s warning as he nudged the Avatar of Greed, “move over.”
Satan met Lucifer’s glare with a smile while he waited for Mammon to shuffle over before he too clambered into the bed and made himself comfortable.
“Satan! That wasn’t an invite to—”
Lucifer’s sentence trailed off as the sound of running footsteps reached his ears and he turned his attention back towards his bedroom doorway once more as Levi appeared with his funtendo switch in his hands and a fleece blanket draped over his shoulders.
“L-Lucifer!”
“Now what?” Lucifer snapped angrily.
“The internet is down!” Levi said as he showed Lucifer the failed connection dialogue box on the screen of his switch.
“It’s nearly quarter to four in the morning! Go to bed or play your games offline, I’ll sort it out at a more reasonable time!”
He watched as a pout formed on Levi’s lips.
“Fine,” Levi muttered in a resigned voice.
Levi then slumped towards the sofa in a sulky manner.
“What are you doing now?” Lucifer asked as he watched Levi’s every move with a stern expression.
“I’m getting a cushion.”
“Why do you need a cushion?”
“To rest my head on.”
“So use one of the pillows in your own room.”
“But they’re in my room,” Levi pointed out as he grabbed one of the sofa cushions and moved towards the foot of Lucifer’s bed, “hey Beel, can you move your feet over a little?”
“Sure,” Beel replied as he shuffled out of Levi’s way.
“No! Stop!” Lucifer snapped again as he tried to stop Levi from climbing onto his bed too. “This is getting ridiculous! Just how big do you all think my bed is?”
“I’ll text Asmo,” Satan piped up and he fidgeted to reach his D.D.D.
“Why are you texting Asmo?” Lucifer asked in an exasperated voice, taking his eyes off of Levi for a split second who used the distraction to secure his place between Beel and Belphie.
“He’s the only one who’s not here, he’ll feel left out if we don’t invite him too.” Mammon pointed out.
“Satan, give me your D.D.D now! You are NOT texting Asmo!”
“Why not?” Satan asked in feigned innocence. “Did you want to text him instead, Lucifer?”
“I know that you’re doing this deliberately to annoy me!” Lucifer glowered at the Avatar of Wrath.
“Is it working?” Satan smirked as Lucifer finally snatched the D.D.D out of his hands.
“Don’t worry, I’ve just texted him.” Beel chimed in as he held up his D.D.D to show the others.
“Why would you do that when I just said no?” Lucifer snapped at Beel.
“Mammon said that he’d feel left out,” Beel frowned sadly, “I don’t want him to feel left out.”
“Well text him again and tell him not—”
Lucifer’s sentence cut off as the unmistakable sound of more running footsteps grew louder and louder from the hallway until Asmo appeared in his bedroom doorway, dressed in his dressing gown with a pillow under one arm and a small, white wicker basket that was full of various cosmetic products under the other arm.
“I came as quickly as I could!” Asmo grinned as he panted for breath and slightly raised his arm that pinned his pillow to his side to show the others the text message from Beel on the screen on his D.D.D.
“Good. Now leave again just as quickly!” Lucifer scowled bluntly.
“There’s some space over here at the end of the bed,” Levi said as he shuffled over and patted the bed beside him without looking up from the console in his hands.
Asmo let out a cheerful hum as he climbed onto the end of Lucifer’s bed to sit beside Levi with his pillow before he began to dig through his wicker basket of cosmetics, “what’s a slumber party without a little pampering? I have nail polish, lip balms, lip gloss, face masks, clay masks, moisturising creams, retinol creams, eye masks, feet masks… oh!” Asmo pulled out a spray bottle with a pale purple liquid inside and inspected it before he then showed it to the rest of his brothers enthusiastically. “I also got this new body spray that’s infused with chamomile and lavender to help with sleep—”
“Please douse yourselves in it so that I can finally have some peace and quiet…” Lucifer muttered in a weary voice.
Lucifer let out another irritable groan as music began to play from Levi’s switch.
“Is that Smash Devils?” Mammon asked, quickly sitting up, he then crawled to the end of the bed to sit between Levi and Asmo before he watched the screen of the switch over Levi’s shoulder. “I’ll play against you!”
Levi gave a small nod as he detached the controllers and propped the console up on the bed between himself and Mammon as he handed one of the controllers to the second-born.
“Hey Levi, this is player two,” Mammon frowned as he reached for the controller in Levi’s hand instead, “swap controller with me, I want to be player one.”
“Huh? No way!” Levi shook his head as he leaned out of Mammon’s reach. “It’s my switch, so I’m player one!”
“I’m older than you, so it should be me!” Mammon lunges towards Levi in another attempt to swipe the controller from his brother’s hands.
As Mammon and Levi continued to bicker and shove each other, Asmo moved closer to Beel with a face mask in his hand.
“Hey Beel, how about we put on some—” Asmo froze as his eyes lingered over Beel’s cheek “— is that pink frosting?” Asmo asked before realisation dawned upon him and he let out a gasp. “Did you eat my cupcakes?” His expression quickly darkened.
Beel slowly wiped the frosting off of his cheek with a guilty look on his face, “… Lucifer said that I could…”
“Lucifer!” Asmo whipped his head around towards his eldest brother with an appalled expression. “Is that true?”
By this point, Satan had already opened his book and begun to read again. He reached over to the bedside table to pull the lamp closer so that more light was cast over the bed.
“The detective in this book has just discovered six locked room murders, I couldn’t possibly sleep until I find out the thrilling conclusion to this mystery!” Satan chuckled as he glanced up at Lucifer with an impish smile.
Belphie began to stir and stretch his arms and legs in his sleep, pushing them against Lucifer before he then tried to wrap more of the duvet around himself as he slept on.
Lucifer’s eyes moved over each of his brothers as they each continued to bicker, argue or inconvenience him. With a resigned sigh, Lucifer let himself fall back against his pillows again and stared up at the ceiling, finally giving up on any attempt to get some sleep.
“I give up…”
Sweet Gesture
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summary: The brothers make a cake for Lucifer’s birthday, but their kind gesture ends up going wrong.
Category: Gen
Rating: General Audiences
Language: English
Relationships: Lucifer & Demon Brothers
Additional Tags: Happy Birthday Lucifer, … or happy belated birthday in this case, Birthday Cake, birthday, birthday candles, fire, no MC, but MC is mentioned as “they”/ “them”, no beta, the brothers just wanted to do something nice for Lucifer’s birthday
Sweet Gesture
The six brothers shared triumphant grins as they stood around the kitchen table and glanced down at the iced cake.
“It’s not too shabby for something that we made,” Mammon chuckled.
“It looks perfect!” Asmo chimed in excitably.
“It almost looks as though we bought it from a bakery,” Belphie added with a surprised expression.
“Alright, calm down, we’ve still got to add the piping yet,” Satan sighed as he prepared a piping bag full of icing in his hand and moved closer to the cake.
“We should add a candle for every year,” Mammon mused aloud as he watched as Satan began to pipe the icing onto the cake, “it’s a human tradition right? We did it for them on their birthday, remember?”
“That’s right,” Beel nodded in agreement, “if they can’t be with us to celebrate Lucifer’s birthday this year, this will be a nice way to include them in our celebration.”
The brothers frowned as they stared down at the cake that they had already made.
“I don’t think our cake is going to be big enough for that,” Levi pointed out in a murmured voice.
“Levi’s right,” Asmo nodded with a low hum.
With an irritable sigh, Satan placed the piping bag down on the table beside the cake before he moved across the kitchen to retrieve the mixing bowl again.
“Fine,” Satan heaved another sigh and rolled his eyes as he then opened the cupboards to grab the weighing scales and a bag of flour, “let’s start measuring out the ingredients again.”
“We could always make it a tiered cake,” Belphie suggested in an attempt to calm Satan down, “that way our efforts haven’t gone to…” the youngest brother’s sentence slowly trailed off as he looked back towards the cake only to find that it had disappeared, “... waste.”
Five pairs of eyes slowly shifted towards Beel, who slowly finished chewing and swallowed with a guilty expression.
“... I thought we were starting over,” Beel said in a quiet voice while he shuffled on the stop with an apologetic expression.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Satan dusted the flour and icing sugar off of his hands with a prideful grin as he stared up at a large four-tiered cake while Levi put the piping bag in his hands down on the kitchen table with a weary sigh.
“Even Lucifer has to appreciate the hard work that’s gone into this cake,” Satan mused aloud to himself with a small chuckle.
“I can’t believe how good it looks,” Belphie said as he glanced up from his position on one of the kitchen stools with an awed expression to watch as Satan and Levi finished adding the golden lace pattern to the black icing on the cake.
“It does,” Levi agreed with a small nod.
“I’ve just realised, I didn’t get a chance to do any of the piping,” Belphie gave a small, disappointed sigh.
Satan and Levi shared a guilty glance.
“We… er… must’ve got so carried away that we forgot to ask you,” Levi laughed nervously as he quickly averted his eyes from Belphie.
“You can have a go at piping next time we make a cake,” Satan added quickly.
Levi and Satan inwardly heaved a sigh of relief as Belphie nodded and his mood instantly brightened at their words.
“I hope Beel got my text,” Belphie murmured more to himself as he dropped his gaze back towards his D.D.D.
“Yeah, yeah, we got your text.” Mammon’s voice sounded as the kitchen door opened, making Levi, Satan and Belphie give startled jumps as Mammon, Asmo and Beel walk into the kitchen with their hands full of carrier bags. “Black and gold candles, we got as many as we could. You’re paying me back for these, right?” Mammon tipped the carrier bag over candles onto the kitchen table beside the cake.
“I’ll settle that with you later,” Satan replied dismissively as he waved off Mammon’s question.
“Wow! Look at this!” Asmo enthused as he stepped closer to admire the cake. “It looks even better than the first cake! And this lace piping looks great!”
The brothers moved closer as Asmo and Beel emptied their carrier bags of candles onto the kitchen table too before they all worked together to place the candles to the cake.
“So…” Asmo spoke up first, a small frown crossed his face as he added another candle to the cake, being careful to alternate the black and gold colours. “… I was just wondering, how many candles do we need?”
Asmo’s question remains unanswered as each of the brothers share a glance.
“Let’s see…” Beel finally broke the silence and began to murmur numbers under his breath as he counted on his fingers while his brothers watched on and awaited his answer. After a few moments, Beel let his hands drop back down to his side as he turned towards his brothers again, “nope, I don’t know.”
“Hey, you two are the oldest,” Belphie turned towards Mammon and Levi, “so you guys should know how old Lucifer is, right?”
“Well, he’s gotta be… uh…” Mammon’s sentence tailed off as he tried to remember.
“Oh!” Levi piped up. “He’s around… around…” He fell silent again without giving an answer.
Mammon and Levi shared a look.
“We have no idea,” they both admitted in unison with defeated sighs.
“I guess I kinda lost count around the time the twins were born,” Mammon murmured aloud to himself.
“Yeah, same here.” Levi nodded in agreement.
Asmo turned towards the remaining brother, “Satan, you’re good at this kind of stuff.”
“If you guys lost count before I was even born, what chance do I have?” Satan pointed out with a sigh and a shake of his head.
“We could just keep adding candles until we use all of them?” Belphie suggested.
“Or until we run out of space to put candles on the cake?” Beel added with a shrug.
“It’s not like he’s going to count them all anyway,” Mammon pointed out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The six brothers stared up at the cake on the table that now seemed to be nothing more than a glowing mass of lit candles.
“So… uh…” Levi frowned. “... do you guys think that we might have used too many candles?”
“Maybe adding them into the sides of the tiers when we ran out of room around the edges was a bad idea,” Asmo mused aloud with a low hum.
“I did tell you not to,” Satan heaved an exasperated sigh, “it ended up being more candles than cake.”
They watch as some of the candles’ flames begin to merge together and burn brighter.
“We should probably remove some of those candles,” Beel pointed out.
They all stood still as they watched with apprehensive expressions as the wax of more candles slowly melted together and the flames continued to merge together, none of them wanting to approach the burning mass.
“It’ll probably burn itself out soon, right?” Mammon asked with a nervous chuckle. “Candles that small don’t usually burn for long anyway, so the fire will die out on its own as soon as the candles are gone, right?”
“Actually, fondant is flammable so it’s likely that the whole cake could be engulfed in flames soon,” Belphie said.
Belphie’s words were met with interested hums and nods from the rest of the brothers as they all continued to stand around the kitchen table and watched as the cake slowly set ablaze, none of them noticed as the kitchen door opened behind them.
“What in the Devildom is going on here?”
Lucifer’s voice made all six of the brothers give startled jumps before they looked around at the oldest brother while Lucifer stared between each of the brothers and then up at the growing flames.
“Oh, hey Lucifer.” Mammon greeted the oldest brother calmly.
“Don’t ‘hey Lucifer’ me!” Lucifer snapped in a frustrated tone as he pointed towards the kitchen table. “What is that?”
“We’ve made a birthday cake just for you,” Asmo replied in the same calm manner as Mammon while the other brothers nodded.
“Do you like it?” Beel asked innocently.
“Do I—?” Lucifer seemed at a loss for words for a few moments as he stared at his brothers in disbelief. “It’s on fire!”
“Yeah, we think we might have gotten a little carried away with the candles,” Mammon said as he turned back towards the burning cake.
“Why are you all acting so calm about it? Put the fire out before the whole house is set ablaze!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lucifer closed his eyes and massaged his forehead as he shook his head to himself, trying his best not to lose his temper as the brothers sat around the kitchen table while they stared at the burnt and wax covered remains of the cake.
“Does anyone have anything to say for themselves?” He asked in a low voice with an exasperated sigh.
The rest of the brothers shared small glances with each other before they turned back to Lucifer and spoke up in unison.
“Happy birthday, Lucifer.”
Somniloquy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summary: Mc overhears the brothers talking in their sleep.
Category: Gen/ Headcanons
Rating: General Audiences
Language: English
Characters: Lucifer, Mammon, Leviathan, Satan, Asmodeus, Beelzebub, Belphegor
Additional Tags: sleeping, sleeping in bed together, sleep talking, talking nonsense, please get some rest Mammon, you too Lucifer, subtle possessiveness, subtle jealousy, laughing, hand holding, the twins are on opposite ends of the logic spectrum - I am so sorry, unnamed MC, gender not specified for MC, no beta
Somniloquy
Lucifer
You’ll literally have to prize this demon away from his work if you want him to get a decent night’s sleep.
You’ll always remember the first night you slept with Lucifer in his bed, you were woken up by his deep, stern voice.
“Maaaaaammoooooon”
There were some nights where his sleep talking would escalate from there.
“For the love of… Satan, Belphie… seriously, again?!”
“Asmo please…”
“Levi.”
“No… Beel, stop!”
Between each subconscious scold, Lucifer would give a series of exasperated sighs or groans and furrow his brow.
It seemed that even in his sleep this demon couldn't catch a break from his brothers’ antics.
You weren’t surprised that Lucifer looked so tired first thing in the morning.
You gave Lucifer a gentle pat on the cheek and moved your thumb in a soothing circular motion.
“… Mc…” he sighed in a much calmer voice.
You watched as his frustrated scowl quickly melted away at your touch and was replaced with a small smile instead.
Unfortunately, this only worked as a snooze button though and within an hour you heard a quiet “Maaaaaammooooon” from him again.
Mammon
Mammon is usually a pretty sound sleeper.
However if he’s been working too many shifts he will become more restless through the night.
You were drifting in and out of sleep in Mammon’s bed next to the demon when he suddenly sat bolt upright, making you give a startled jump.
You watched with a bemused expression as Mammon grabbed a television remote from the bedside table and pressed it to his ear.
“Good evenin’, you’ve reached Hell’s Kitchen. How can I help ya?”
His voice was thick with sleep and his eyes were still shut as he spoke.
Unsure of how to respond, you simply stared at Mammon as he sat motionless with the television remote still pressed to his ear before he gave an irritable grunt, threw the remote back down onto his bedside table and let himself fall back against his pillow with enough force to make the bed shake.
“They hung up… just another damn prank call wastin’ my time.” He muttered to himself in an irritable tone before he fell back into a peaceful slumber as though nothing had happened.
Leviathan
Aside from the odd mutter about normies or a hummed victory fanfare from his favourite video games and the Hana-Ruri theme tune, Levi is usually fairly quiet when he’s asleep.
So you were shocked when you woke up to hear a low growling noise one night.
In your sleepy state, you put the source down to the sound of Cerberus carrying through the House of Lamentation from the underground tomb.
That was until you felt Levi wrap his arms around your waist and pulled you closer to him in an embrace.
“Go away!” Levi murmured in a low voice as his grip tightened.
Confused by the demon’s conflicting words, you glanced over your shoulder to find Levi’s sleeping face close by.
“… they’re my Henry, not yours!”
You had to stifle a laugh as you realised that Levi must’ve been having an argument with one of his brothers in his dream.
He almost died of embarrassment and begged you not to tell his brothers when you mentioned what had happened to him the following morning, and he begged you to never bring it up again.
Satan
You usually fell asleep long before this demon even considered putting his book down for the night.
You were listlessly scrolling through Devilgram for the umpteenth as you struggled to keep your eyes open when you heard a small chuckle.
Your curiosity won over your tiredness and you glanced over in Satan’s direction only to find the demon fast asleep with the pages of his book crumpled against his chest and a smile playing on his lips as he let out another laugh.
A smile spread across your own face as you watched Satan’s expression closely, you had no doubt in your mind that he was dreaming about his beloved books or cats. That was until he murmured, “take that, Lucifer!” under his breath with another mischievous chuckle.
When you sought Satan out the following day, he was straightening out the creases in his book.
Satan stared at you in shock after you explained what had happened before a pensive expression crossed his face. “I must’ve been dreaming about pranking Lucifer, if only I could remember what the prank was,” he murmured more to himself.
You later found Satan and a groggy Belphie researching dreams in the library.
Asmodeus
After spending many nights sharing a bed with Asmo, you quickly became accustomed to his occasional stretches that were always accompanied by soft groans or sighs as he slept.
You had even come to find his little stretches cute.
Especially when he moved closer to you and draped one of his arms around your waist and let out a little hum as he nestled into your shoulder.
However one night, after his stretches, he rolled over and gently shook your shoulder instead.
“Mm?” You hummed groggily as you turned to face him and slowly opened your eyes.
“Did you look at that photo I sent you?” You could tell by his voice that he was still half asleep.
“What photo?” You asked.
“The one that I sent you.”
“It’s the middle of the night,” you pointed out with a yawn as you turned away from Asmo again and settled more comfortably into your pillow, “I’ll check it in the morning.”
“Urgh,” Asmo groaned as he flopped back onto the bed again, “fine.”
When you woke the next morning you made sure to check your inbox and after you saw that Asmo had not sent you any picture you sought the demon out.
He had no recollection of your conversation from the night before.
Beelzebub
The only sound you would usually hear from Beel when he’s asleep is his slow, deep breathing and possibly the odd snore or grunt.
You weren't surprised when you felt the bed shift as he sat up and tiredly rubbed his eyes as per his usual routine before he would seek out the kitchen fridge for a 3am feast.
You laid still for a few minutes as you waited for Beel to push himself off of the bed but felt confusion set in as he remained motionless.
You rolled over to face him, only to find Beel still sat up in bed staring down at you through bleary eyes.
“Are you okay?” You asked.
“Hm?” Beel hummed as he lifted his hand and ruffled his hair groggily as he then turned his unfocused eyes to stare around the room.
You opened your mouth to repeat your question but was caught off guard as Beel quickly grabbed your hand and interlaced your fingers together.
“Beel?”
“Otters hold hands when they sleep,” Beel’s voice was still thick with sleep, “it’s so they don’t drift away from each other,” he added with an earnest nod.
You then watched as Beel gently laid back on his pillow and pulled your interlocked hands close to his chest with a content sigh.
“Don’t drift away from me, okay Mc?”
Belphegor
A good question to ask is when isn’t Belphie talking in his sleep?
There have been times where you have had full conversations with the sleepy demon before you’ve even realised that he’s nodded off… again.
And to give him credit where it’s due, Belphie’s sleep talking is usually relevant to the conversation going on around him, so you’ve always assumed that even in his sleep, Belphie has a good level of awareness.
That was until you let him share your bed with you one night.
You had just started to drift off when you felt Belphie give a sharp jerk beside you.
“Bel—”
“Shh!” He whispered. “There’s someone standing in the wall.”
You felt a shiver run down your spine and your eyes widened as panic quickly set in before you slowly registered what he had said.
“In… in the wall?” You repeated in confusion.
“Mhm, I think it’s a salamander.”
“There’s a salamander in the wall?” You played along in amusement.
“Yeah, he told me that he controls the weather,” Belphie murmured.
You tried to stifle a laugh but couldn’t help yourself.
“It’s not funny, Mc.” Belphie snapped in his sleep. “His work is very important.”

Short-Sighted

Summary: When Lucifer forgets his glasses, Mammon helps him out in a moment of need.
Category: Gen
Rating: General Audiences
Language: English
Characters: Lucifer, Mammon, Leviathan, Satan, Asmodeus, Beelzebub, Belphegor
Relationships: Lucifer & Mammon
Additional Tags: Helpful Mammon, short sightedness, I just wanted to write something cute, Lucifer needs glasses, no beta, Akudonald’s, demon brothers, Forgotten glasses
Short-Sighted
Lucifer adjusted his grip on the carrier bag in his hands as he finished checking the contents inside before he glanced back at the six demons, who were following him down the cobbled Devildom street, and heaved a weary sigh.
“I think that’s everything in terms of grocery shopping,” Lucifer announced, “so unless there’s anywhere else that anyone—?”
“Lucifer, we’ve been out for hours,” Levi groaned loudly as he dragged his feet behind the rest of his brothers, “can we go home now? Before Mammon and Asmo make us go back to Majolish again or to some other normie place.”
“No one said that ya had to come along too,” Mammon pointed out.
“Besides, Satan made us go to the library so it’s only fair,” Asmo chimed in.
“Don’t drag me into your argument,” Satan muttered irritably from behind a book as he walked.
“Will you put that away, you’re going to trip over if you don’t look at where you’re going.” Lucifer shot at Satan in a reproachful tone.
“Tch.” Satan tutted before he muttered something under his breath as he closed the book and glared back at Lucifer. “Happy now?” He asked, sarcastically rolling his eyes.
“Hey, we should stop for a bite to eat.” Belphie piped up, slowing his pace and eyeing an Akudonald’s as they passed by, but quickly rejoining his brothers after.
“I’m cooking dinner when we get home,” Lucifer said, “you can wait until then.”
“I don’t think Beel’s gonna last that long,” Belphie frowned as he stopped to point towards his twin who was visibly torn between keeping up with his brothers and retracing his steps back to Akudonald’s, “I could use a break myself,” Belphie added as he tried to stifle a yawn.
“We’re a fair way from home anyway, so it won’t hurt to get something to eat now,” Mammon shrugged.
“And this is Beel we’re talking about, I don’t know about you guys but I’d rather avoid one of his hungry rampages,” Levi pointed out.
“Very well,” Lucifer relented with another sigh.
Lucifer followed behind his brothers as they filed into the Akudonald’s and quickly separated off into pairs to choose from the menus displayed on the screens above the counters.
“I think I’ll get three gigadeath burgers, a devil zebra steak stack, five sides of deep fried scorpions, and two double poison cheeseburgers,” Beel murmured more to himself as his eyes quickly scanned over the menus.
“That sounds great, Beel.” Belphie yawned. “Hey, can you just grab some devil nuggets for me? I’m just going to rest my eyes a little in that booth over there by the window, okay?” Belphie pointed vaguely before he shuffled away to find a seat while rubbing tiredly at his eyes.
Lucifer frowned as his eyes slowly trailed over the bright menu screens.
“I’m having the flame grilled barbeque black tapir wrap,” Mammon said.
“Then I’ll have the belladonna and hemlock salad,” Asmo said with a thoughtful hum.
“A salad?” Levi gave a snort of laughter and shook his head. “Really, Asmo?”
“Hm? What’s wrong with that?”
“Who goes to a fast food restaurant like AkuDonald’s and orders a salad?”
“But everything else on the menu is so heavy,” Asmo groaned as he turned to the menus once more, “maybe I’ll just get a bloodberry muffin instead?”
“What about you, Satan?” Levi turned to the fourth-born instead.
“Shadow goose burger with fries and a hell soda,” Satan decided with a curt nod.
“Woah, he chose something so fast.”
“That’s what he always orders,” Asmo rolled his eyes.
Lucifer watched as Levi, Satan and Asmo moved to the counter to place their orders before he tried once again to read the menus.
Lucifer narrowed his eyes to squint in hopes that in doing so the words might become clear enough for him to decipher,when he was finally left with no other choice Lucifer reached into his jacket pocket.
Ah.
He tapped over his other pockets as realisation dawned upon him.
I must’ve left my glasses at the House of Lamentation.
He saw something move out of the corner of his eye that pulled him out of his own musings only to find that Mammon had moved closer to his side to read the menus again.
Mammon let out a low, indecisive hum.
“Man, there’s so much to choose from…” Mammon said loudly, “... I have no idea what I fancy.”
“Hm?” Lucifer gave Mammon a perplexed stare. “I thought that you had already picked the flame grilled—”
“I dunno, I’m kinda feeling the spicy devil chicken burger now… or maybe… the spicy poison newt belly wrap?” Mammon mused aloud again before he turned his gaze from the menus towards Lucifer instead. “Hey, Lucifer, you like spicy food right?”
Lucifer stared at Mammon in confusion for a moment or two before he caught a knowing look in the avatar of greed’s eyes.
“That’s true,” Lucifer felt a small smile tug at his lips as he played along, “but I was thinking of getting something a little simpler today.”
“I get what ya mean,” Mammon nodded as he moved away from the spicy food menu to read from another screen, “spicy food can lead to heartburn, so do you think I should go for a wrap or a burger?”
“Definitely a burger,” Lucifer replied with a chuckle as he followed Mammon’s lead, “oh and Mammon?”
“Yeah?”
“I feel like treating you, so I’ll be paying today.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mammon placed the food ladened tray down on the table before he and Lucifer slid into the booth opposite Satan and Asmo.
“What took you both so long?” Satan asked, peering over the top of his book curiously as he watched Mammon divide the food on the tray between himself and Lucifer.
“I couldn’t decide what to get,” Mammon said with a small shrug.
“But isn’t that the flame grilled barbeque black tapir wrap?” Satan frowned as he nodded towards Mammon’s meal.
“Honestly,” Asmo shook his head at Mammon, “you spent that long deciding on what to order and ended up picking your first choice anyway?”
“Heh, I guess, I did.” Mammon chuckled to himself.
Fissure
He ran as fast as his legs would let him and ascended the stone steps of the Demon Lord’s Castle two or three at a time before he finally reached the large doors up ahead, knowing as loud as he could while he panted to catch his breath again.
He took a quick step back, recomposing himself and straightening his clothes, as the doors swung open to reveal the prince of the Devildom.
“Lord Diavolo.” Mephisto greeted the other demon with a nod.
“Mephisto,” Diavolo smiled as he moved aside to let Mephisto step over the threshold before he closed the doors again, “I’m glad you’re here, thank you for responding to my message so fast.”
“You said it was urgent,” Mephisto reminded him, “is something wrong? Does this happen to have anything to do with the seven meteors that were spotted across the Devildom earlier? Is it an attack from the Celestial Realm? Where’s Barbatos?” He reeled each question off in quick succession.
“Barbatos is on a retrieval mission as we speak,” Diavolo tried to settle the other demon.
“A retrieval mission?”
“Barbatos will return shortly, but in the meantime I would like your assistance.” Diavolo explained as he beckoned at Mephisto to follow him.
Diavolo led the other demon across the entrance hall and into another room.
Mephisto stopped in his tracks and froze in the doorway as his eyes fell upon a familiar dark haired man who adorned the Celestial Realm’s armour of light sitting in one of the chairs at a long table. He narrowed his eyes as he scrutinised the man in front of him with an expression of displeasure, mentally noting the fact that the usually bright and vibrant clothes were not splattered with what looked like mud and blood, and was torn in places.
“Lucifer. So it was an attack from the Celestial Realm,” Mephisto concluded in a harsh voice while his stare hardened and his hands balled into firsts as he began to stride across the room toward Lucifer, “you have some nerve.”
Lucifer stood up from his chair with a glare of his own and Mephisto approached him, ready to square up to the demon.
“No, no!” Diavolo quickly caught up to Mephisto and placed a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to diffuse the situation. “It’s nothing like that! Calm down!”
Mephisto stopped at Diavolo’s touch but his eyes continued to survey the man in front of him.
“Something seems off about him,” he murmured more himself.
His eyes finally settled somewhere around Lucifer’s head and shoulders as he finally realised.
“Where are your wings and halo, angel?” Mephisto spat venomously.
Lucifer scowled and opened his mouth to respond.
“As you can see, Lucifer is no longer an angel,” Diavolo explained quickly before Lucifer had the chance to voice his retort, “he and his brothers—”
“And his brothers?” Mephisto interjected. “There’s more than one of them?”
“Yes Mephisto,” Diavolo replied patiently, “so Lucifer and his brothers will now become denizens of the Devildom—”
“You can’t be serious?” Mephisto scoffed and shook his head. “Pardon me for speaking out of turn, but you’re far too trusting, Lord Diavolo. What if he and his brothers have been sent here to spy for the Celest—”
“— and, as my good friend, I would like you to befriend Lucifer and his brothers,” Diavolo continued, speaking louder to drown out Mephisto’s words, “please help them until they are able to adjust to life here in the Devildom.”
“I refuse.” Mephisto said bluntly.
Diavolo frowned, “but Mephisto—”
“I’m sorry, Lord Diavolo, but I believe I’ve already voiced my opinions about this whole alliance with the Celestial Realm on numerous occasions. Especially where he is concerned.” Mephisto continued as he shot a disgusted look in Lucifer’s direction.
“Do you honestly think that this is the outcome that I wanted?” Lucifer finally snapped back. “Believe me, this situation is far from ideal for me too.”
Diavolo suppressed an exasperated groan, “Lucifer, please—”
“Oh, so the so-called fallen angel has something to say now, huh?” Mephisto sneered sarcastically, adding air quotations with his fingers as he said the words ‘fallen angel’ and taking a step towards Lucifer.
“Come now, Mephisto, that was uncall—” Diavolo tried again.
“What did you call me?” Lucifer asked in a low, dangerous voice as he also took a step closer to Mephisto.
“Now that’s enough, both of you!” Diavolo wedged himself between the two and pushed them apart, he kept his arms raised to keep the distance between Lucifer and Mephisto. “I understand that this is going to take some time to adjust to, but with a little support—”
“Some time to adjust?” Mephisto rounded furiously onto Diavolo instead. “You’re talking about taking in fallen angels! Do you even know the circumstances of why they’ve been cast out of the Celestial Realm?”
“Yes,” Diavolo replied softly as he slowly lowered his arms, “Lucifer has explained everything to me.”
“And you believe everything that he has to say? You really believe that the Celestial Realm would cast out a high ranking archangel and all of his brothers so easily, alone let them abscond to the Devildom?”
“Yes, I trust Lucifer.”
Mephisto stared between Diavolo’s earnest expression and Lucifer’s glower before he heaved a resigned sigh, turned his back on the pair and began to walk away.
“Mephisto, wait!” Diavolo called after him as he followed in the other demon’s footsteps.
“I’m sorry, but I cannot support this decision.” Mephisto said as he walked across the entrance hall with Diavolo keeping pace close behind him.
“Why don’t we go back and talk this all over with a cup of—”
“I’ve said my piece and there’s nothing that you can say or do to change my mind, Lord Diavolo.”
Mephisto paused for a moment when he reached the castle doors, resting his hand on the handle before he turned towards Diavolo again.
“This decision will have repercussions,” Mephisto warned, “the Celestial Realm isn’t likely to sit idly if you protect their fallen, this could lead to another war between the Devildom and the Celestial Realm.”
“I’m aware of that possibility.”
“And you’re still okay with this?” Mephisto frowned. “All of your dreams of uniting the three realms will go up in smoke!”
“I will still work towards a future where the three realms can live in harmony.”
Mephisto met Diavolo’s determined gaze.
“Then I guess this is goodbye,” Mephisto shook his head with a sigh before he opened the doors, walked out of the palace and down the stone steps.
“Mephisto!”
He ignored Diavolo’s calls and the tightening feeling in his chest that left him with a full ache with every step he took away from his closest and oldest friend.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Mephistopheles.”
Mephisto let out an irritable sigh as the familiar voice reached his ears before he spun around in his seat to glare at the newcomer.
“This room is for members of the RAD newspaper club only, Lucifer.” Mephisto drawled before he turned back towards his computer. “So whatever it is that you want, make it quick.”
“Care to explain what this is.” Lucifer said curtly, ignoring Mephisto’s comment.
Mephisto rolled his eyes as he spun around in his seat once more to see that Lucifer was holding out his D.D.D towards him.
“It’s your D.D.D,” Mephisto smirked mischievously, “you can use it to call or text others, you know.”
“Don’t act coy with me,” Lucifer snapped, “I mean these text stickers!”
Mephisto leaned closer and pretended to survey the screen of the D.D.D with interest.
“Oh, those are the Princess Diavolo and Prince Lucifer stickers,” Mephisto nodded and offered the other demon another impish grin, “I was the one who created them.”
“So I’ve heard.”
“I’m very pleased with how the unicorn—”
“Delete them.”
“No can do,” Mephisto replied, instantly dropping his playful façade and donning a blunt demeanor instead as he turned back to the computer once more, “I was commissioned to create them by your brothers Mammon, Satan and Asmodeus. Besides, Lord Diavolo seems quite fond of them himself.” He added, glancing over his shoulder to smirk at the enraged Lucifer again.
“So it was those three.” Lucifer scowled as he stowed his D.D.D away into his uniform jacket pocket and turned to leave the room. “I’ll be dealing with them first, I won’t stand for anyone tarnishing Lord Diavolo’s image. This isn’t over, Mephistopheles.”
Mephisto watched as the door closed behind Lucifer and turned back towards the computer with an amused hum as he added an advertisement for the Princess Diavolo and Prince Lucifer stickers on the front page of the next issue of RAD’s newspaper.
“I’m sure it’s not over,” he mused aloud with a satisfied smile as he hit the print button.

Winter Moments — Solomon
Day Twelve of K’rasu’s Christmas Advent
You made your way down the path of the House of Lamentation and felt a smile spread across your face as your eyes quickly found the familiar figure waiting for you just outside the garden gates.
“Mc,” Solomon greeted you in a cheerful voice and gave you a small wave as he watched you step through the gates, “I see you got my last message,” he nodded towards the scarf and gloves that you were holding in your hands, and at the warm coat you were wearing.
Solomon beckoned at you to follow him as he began to lead the way through the Devildom streets and you quickly complied as you fell into step beside him.
“I’m sorry to take up your time so late on Christmas Eve like this,” Solomon said with an apologetic smile, “but I couldn’t let everyone else have all of the fun now, could I?” He added with a mischievous chuckle.
“So what have you got planned?” You asked curiously.
“I don’t want to ruin the surprise, so you’ll just have to wait and see.”
You instantly recognised the route as you followed Solomon, but you were taken by surprise when you finally reached the Devildom park only to find that it had changed drastically since your last visit.
Your eyes trailed over detailed ice sculptures of reindeers that had been illuminated by light-up bases and lined the park pathway. Further ahead, you could see a tall fir tree that adorned blue and while lights along with large silver baubles which was at the centre of many food stalls and amusement rides alongside the ice rink that you had visited earlier that month.
“Lord Diavolo has really expanded the attractions since you were last here with Asmo,” Solomon said in an amused voice as he watched your awed expression, “it’s just like a human world winter wonderland here in the Devildom. Stay close, Mc, we don’t want to get separated.”
You stuck close to Solomon’s side as you both walked down the path and joined the slow moving throng of demons within the winter wonderland.
“Ah, here we are.” Solomon pointed towards one of the attractions.
Your gaze followed Solomon’s gesture until they found a wooden hut that had a large sign mounted above the glass double doors.
“Ice bar?” You read the sign aloud in confusion as you eyed the wooden hut.
“Don’t let the exterior fool you, everything inside is made of ice and the temperatures are kept below freezing,” Solomon explained as he guided you through the crowd towards the hut, “so don’t forget to put your scarf and gloves on, and be sure to keep yourself wrapped up warm.”
He waited patiently as you donned your scarf and gloves, before he held the door to the ice bar open for you to enter.
You stared around in amazement as you stepped into a room that was bathed in blue lights and that was full of tables and chairs, a bar and decorative pillars that were all made out of ice.
“Take a seat, Mc. I’ll grab some drinks from the bar,” Solomon said as he followed you inside and closed the door behind him before he flashed a smile in your direction and disappeared towards the bar.
You marvelled at the ice furnishings around you as you slowly moved towards the closest available table and perched yourself on one of the ice seats.
Solomon returned moments later with two glasses that were made of ice and had been filled with blue liquid.
“I think a toast is in order,” Solomon said as he took the seat opposite yours and offered you one of the ice glasses before he held up his own with a smile on his face “to winter memories together in the Devildom.”
With a grin of your own, you accepted the drink from Solomon before you carefully tapped your glass against his, “to winter memories together in the Devildom.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After leaving the ice bar, you and Solomon strolled around the winter wonderland. You both enjoyed going on as many rides as you could, admiring ice sculptures, and trying out games of ring toss, pick a duck, and balloon darts.
“We still have a bit of time left before the park closes,” Solomon told you as he checked the time on his D.D.D, “why don’t we go on the ferris wheel before we head home?”
“Sure,” you nodded.
You followed Solomon as he guided you towards a short queue and after a short wait, you both clambered into a carriage and sat down opposite each other as you slowly began your ascent.
You watched as the winter wonderland and the rest of the park shrank further away below before you lifted your gaze towards the glittering lights of the Devildom instead.
“You know, I can’t really remember when I stopped celebrating Christmas,” Solomon confided in you with an amused hum.
Taken aback at Solomon’s sudden admission, you turned towards the sorcerer only to find that he had been staring out at the view of the Devildom too.
“When you’ve lived a life as long as mine, Christmas just becomes another day that blurs into the rest,” he continued with a thoughtful expression, “or… at least… that was up until recently.”
“What changed?” You asked curiously.
“I met you, Mc.” Solomon answered simply as he finally met your gaze with his own and a warm smile.
You were unable to tell if the red tint on his cheeks was from the cold weather or if he was blushing.
“Every day was the same, so I threw myself into my experiments as a way to distract myself, before I knew it months, years, decades all came and went so fast with little to no relevance and I felt so alone, but when I met you it was as though a switch had been flipped and suddenly my life became so colourful,” Solomon confessed with a small chuckle as his eyes flickered back towards the view beyond the carriage, “somehow you made a place that seemed as dark as the Devildom become so vibrant. I hope I never lose this feeling again.”
You stared at Solomon in astonishment before you both gave a small jolt as somewhere beyond the carriage the chime of a bell echoed throughout the Devildom and thick snow began to fall.
“Is it midnight already?” Solomon asked in a surprised voice before he looked back towards you with that same warm smile as before. “Merry Christmas, Mc.”
Winter Moments — Simeon
Day Eleven of K’rasu’s Christmas Advent
You stared down at the screen of your D.D.D.
Simeon
I’ll meet you at the Devildom Mall at 11:00am. See you soon, Mc.
Your eyes slowly shifted from the text message to the time displayed at the top of your screen.
“Quarter past eleven,” you murmured to yourself as your eyebrows knitted with worry, “did he forget?” You glanced about yourself with a frown to look through the bustling crowd in search of the angel in question before you turned back to your phone and flicked through your contacts to find Simeon’s number. “Maybe I should call him.”
“Hey Mc!”
You gave a small, startled jump and spun around on the spot to find Simeon weaving his way through the crowd as he approached you.
“I’m sorry that I’m late,” Simeon gave you an apologetic grin, “I tried to text you, but… uh… my D.D.D kept crashing whenever I tried to send you a message,” he explained as he withdrew the device from his pocket to show you with a weary sigh, “I might have to get Leviathan to look at it for me.”
“I can take a look for you,” you suggested as you took his D.D.D into your own hands and began to scroll through his home screen and apps to find the issue.
“You left all of your apps open,” you said as you closed each app, showing Simeon how as you did so, “and you’re getting a lot of text messages from Lucifer, Luke, Beel and Thirteen,” you gave a quizzical frown as the device began to vibrate in your hands and several messages flashed across the top of the screen in a banner notification.
“Am I?” Simeon asked as he tapped on the most recent banner notification to open his messages to find a string of texts.
Simeon
I’m rinnung a bit ltae but I’ll be three soon
Thirteen
You’ll be three soon?
Thirteen
What does that mean?
Lucifer
It’s probably a mistake.
Beelzebub
Rinnung a bit ltae?
Luke
That’s definitely a mistake.
“It looks like I’ve accidentally made a new group chat when I tried to text you earlier,” Simeon chuckled sheepishly as he read the incoming messages over your shoulder before he took his D.D.D back and began to type, “I should apologise for worrying them and explain what happened. Thanks for your help, Mc, you’re a lifesaver.”
He gave you a warm smile as he sent his message, locked his D.D.D and slid the device back into his pocket, before you both began to wander aimlessly through the mall together.
“Do you really still have gifts to buy?” You asked as you stared at the angel with a bemused expression. “Christmas is only two days away, I’m surprised that you’d leave your shopping so late.”
“Oh, I’ve already bought most of the gifts I need. I just need to buy something for Solomon and Luke now, but I’ve been struggling to find something that I think they’ll like,” Simeon confessed with a sigh as he turned to you with a frown, “I hope you don’t mind me asking, but do you think you could help me out, Mc?”
You smiled at Simeon and nodded.
The hours quickly ticked by as you and Simeon walked up and down the mall, point out different shops to each other or browsing wares that caught your eye in the festively decorated display windows as you passed by until you were finally able to find an antique apothecary set and some crystal potion vials for Solomon, and a cake turntable and a cake decorating kit for Luke.
“This will be great for Luke, especially as we got him those cooking utensils for his birthday this year,” Simeon chimed happily as he adjusted his grip on the shopping bags in his hands, “thank you for all of your help today, Mc. I really appreci— hm?”
You watched as Simeon’s gaze wandered just past your shoulder as something behind you caught his attention.
“Is something wrong, Simeon?” You asked as you followed his gaze to find a fir tree standing in the centre of the mall.
“I’ve just noticed that that tree isn’t decorated like a usual Christmas tree, it looks like it’s covered in… tags?”
You both watched as a pair of demons approached a table beside the tree, wrote something down and then moved towards the tree together where they tied their tags onto one of the branches.
“I’ve seen this before in the human world,” you said as you and Simeon watched the demons walk away while they chatted excitedly, “it’s a wishing tree.”
“A wishing tree?”
“We write our hopes, wishes or prayers down on one of the tags or we can use other offerings like coloured ribbons or fabric in hopes that they'll be granted,” you explained, “the type of tree that we use can also vary too.”
You turned your gaze back to Simeon to find him staring at the many tags on the tree with a fascinated expression.
“Did you want to write a wish down?” You asked.
Simeon gave a small jolt as your voice pulled him from his own musings.
You led Simeon over to the table near the tree, watching him place his shopping bags on the floor beside the table before you offered him a paper tag and one of the pens that had been left on the table before you took one of your own.
You pondered for a moment, wondering what your wish should be.
I hope the brothers and everyone at the demon lord’s castle and Purgatory Hall have a great Christmas.
It was simple, but it conveyed your wish clearly enough.
“I’m ready when you are,” Simeon said, he held his own tag close to his chest as he watched you finish writing across your own tag.
You nodded as you picked up your tag and walked up to the wishing tree with Simeon.
You found one of the more vacant branches to tie your tag to and smiled to yourself as you admired it amongst the rest of the wishes.
“All done,” you grinned as Simeon rejoined your side.
“Same here,” he nodded, returning your smile.
You helped Simeon carry his shopping bags before you both headed towards the mall’s exit.
“So what did you wish for, Simeon?” You asked.
“It’s a secret,” Simeon replied with a chuckle, “what about you?”
“It’s a secret.”
Winter Moments — Luke
Day Ten of K’rasu’s Christmas Advent
You treaded carefully as you trekked through the snow covered Devildom, but your pace soon quickened as you drew closer to your destination, knowing that soon you’d be relieved from the snow even if it was only for a short while.
You were forced to slow your pace as you began to ascend the steps, having to concentrate on each step so that you didn’t accidentally slip on the icy surface.
“Mc?”
A voice issued from somewhere below you, making you jump and have to grab the railing to prevent yourself from falling before you cast your gaze over the railing to find Luke staring up at you from the ground.
“Simeon and Solomon didn’t tell me you were visiting today,” Luke murmured more to himself as he tilted his head curiously at you.
“I’m only dropping off Raphael’s sewing kit and fabrics, Babarbatos asked me if I could do it for him.” You explained with a smile as you descended the steps again and lifted up a small bag in your hand to show Luke before your eyes trailed over the young angel who was crouched down in the snow with various tools and pieces of wood strewn around him. “What are you up to, Luke?” You asked with a quizzical frown.
“I’m making a sled!” Luke told you with a bright smile that lit up his face. “... or at least I’m trying to,” he added as his smile quickly faltered and he stared down at the tools and wood with a disheartened sigh, “you see, I was thinking about going sledding, but none of the sleds on Akuzon would arrive in time so Thirteen said that I should try to make my own instead,” he explained as he pulled out a folded piece of paper from his pocket and passed the paper up to you, “she even gave me some of her tools to use and drew up this blueprint for me.”
“Thirteen is the best person when it comes to building stuff, she makes all of her traps by herself after all.” You nodded as you took the paper and unfolded it, only to widen your eyes in shock as you saw that every inch of the page was covered in Thirteen’s handwritten instructions along with a detailed sketch of a sled design.
“I don’t really know where to start,” Luke confessed as he watched your eyes skim over the page.
“Is… is that an Ozzie Octopus attachment?” You asked in disbelief as you spotted the familiar trap drawn into the design on the front of the sled with a note scribbled beside it.
To use against that sorry excuse of a sorcerer.
“She said that it was the most important part of the design,” Luke said with a low hum as he stood up and moved closer to your side to read the blueprint too.
“I’m sure we can work this out together,” you reassured Luke as you knelt down on the ground and began to sort through the wood and tools.
You both set to work together. You made sure that you were the one to saw any wood that needed to be cut down to size and supervised Luke while he used nails and glue to ensure that the wood was securely joined together.
“We should make sure that the wood is properly sanded,” Luke reminded, “we don’t want to get any splinters when we’re sledding.”
After hours of hard work, the both finally found yourselves admiring Luke’s finished sled — minus the Ozzie Octopus attachment.
“It looks great!” Luke said gleefully as he beamed at you. “Can we head over to the Devildom gardens to try it out?”
You nodded and smiled at Luke.
“I’ve just got to let Simeon, Raphael and Solomon know where I’m going,” Luke said as he began to scoop up Thirteen’s tools in his arms, “I better put these away too,” he added with a small nod as he turned to you, “I can take Raphael’s sewing kit too.”
You handed Luke the sewing kit and watched as he ascended the steps and disappeared over the threshold into Purgatory Hall, only to reappear moments later while he called out his goodbyes over his shoulder before he rejoined your side and picked up the sled.
“I can’t wait to try our sled out,” the young angel chimed excitedly as he led the way towards the park.
As you walked along the Devildom streets, you and Luke playfully scooped up snow from the ground to throw at each other as you dodged and ducked away from each others’ snowballs between your laughter until you finally reached the gardens.
“Let’s try that hill, Mc!” Luke pointed excitedly at the largest hill before he ran off ahead of you.
“Hey! Wait for me, Luke!” You called after him.
You both lost track of time as you sledded down hills over and over again, laughing together as you fell off of the sled at the bottom of the hill. Luke enthusiastically showed you his snow angels and you both continued to play in the snow until you were shivering, aching all over and you clothes were soaked through
“Y-y-you should come b-back to Purgatory Hall with me,” Luke suggested through chattering teeth as you both left the gardens, “i-it’s Raphael’s turn to cook t-tonight, he said he was m-making stew. Then Simeon and S-Solomon promised that we could all watch s-some Christmas movies.”
“Sounds great,” you grinned as you pulled your jacket tighter around yourself to conserve what little body heat you had left.
“Th-thanks for helping me today, M-Mc,” Luke smiled brightly at you as he hugged his sled closer to his chest, “I’m g-gonna make you some sweets as a th-thank you.”
Luke hummed happily to himself as you both headed back towards Purgatory Hall.
“I should m-make some sweets for Thirteen too,” Luke added before he turned to you again, “hey Mc, I think we should in-invite Thirteen to come with us n-next time we go sledding together.”
“I think we should too,” you nodded with a chuckle as you took off your scarf before you stopped the young angel in his tracks and wrapped your scarf around him to keep him warm
You both then continued your trek back to Purgatory Hall as you chatted excitedly about your upcoming adventures in the snow.
Winter Moments — Barbatos
Day Nine of K’rasu’s Christmas Advent
“Wow!” Asmo gasped as he scrolled away on his D.D.D. “It really looks like that ice rink we went to is really taking off on Devilgram after I posted that selfie we took together!”
“Really?” You gave Asmo a surprised look before you continued to pack your textbooks away into your bag.
“Yeah, I heard that it became so popular that Diavolo has actually expanded the park into something of a winter wonderland until New Year,” Asmo nodded earnestly as he showed you his D.D.D so that you could see the various pictures that had been posted on Devilgram.
“That’s great,” you smiled as you glanced through the pictures, “I hope I can go back before it closes.”
You frowned as you counted through your textbooks again and again.
“I can’t find…” you murmured under your breath before you checked under your desk for the missing textbook, “hey Asmo, have you seen my hexes and curses textbook?”
“Nope, sorry hon.”
“I think I might have left it in the student council room,” you sighed as you slung your bag over your shoulder, “I’m going to go back and grab it.”
“I’ll go on ahead,” Asmo nodded, “I promised to meet up with Simeon after RAD today, we’re going to check out the new haunted gingerbread houses and ghastly yule logs at Madam Screams. I’ll see you at home~!”
You smiled as you waved Asmo off before you headed back to the student council room, you automatically knocked on the doors out of habit despite the student council meeting being long over and was shocked when you heard a familiar voice issue from within.
“You may enter.”
You opened the door and peered into the room to find that Barbatos was sitting at the long table alone and with his back to you, judging from his posture you could only assume that the demon was concentrating intently on something that was in his hands.
You hesitantly stepped into the room and let the door swing shut behind you before you slowly drew closer to Barbatos, you cast your eyes across the table with a confused expression as your gaze fell upon cases of sewing needles, and a vast array of colourful threads and materials that has been strewn about the tabletop in front of Barbatos.
“Good evening, Mc.” Barbatos greeted you without looking round at you or away from his task as he threaded a needle with incredible.
You blinked at him with a surprised expression.
“How did you know it was me?” You asked.
“I wouldn’t be much of a butler to the young master if I wasn’t able to distinguish one presence from another,” Barbatos chuckled as he flashed a smile in your direction. “Am I correct in assuming that you have returned for your textbook?” He added as he nodded towards a textbook that was resting on the table beside your student council seat before he began to line up the material on the table. “I was about to send you a message to let you know that it was here.”
“Thanks,” you gave the demon butler an appreciative nod as you moved towards the end of the table, grabbed the textbook and stowed it away in your bag while watching the demon closely as you did so, “what are you making, Barbatos?” You asked as your curiosity finally got the better of you.
“A stocking.”
“A stocking?” You stared at him in confusion as you slid into the seat opposite him.
“I heard that you helped with the Christmas decorations at the Demon Lord’s Castle the other day, and it seems that the young master has taken a keen interest in Christmas traditions this year, so I thought that I should look into some of these traditions too.” Barbatos explained. “I’ve read that some humans hang their stockings by the fireplace on Christmas Eve and their stockings will be full of presents when they wake up on Christmas morning, but festive stockings are hard to come by in the Devildom, so perhaps a handmade stocking will be more meaningful.”
“It’s looking great already,” you grinned as you watched Barbatos carefully stitch a variety of gold and silver snowflakes onto a black stocking with a white fur cuff.
“I have plenty of materials and threads, and Raphael was kind enough to lend me some sewing patterns and sewing kits” Barbatos gave you another smile as he nodded encouragingly towards the coloured fabrics, “you’re more than welcome to use them if you would like to join me.”
“I’d love to.”
“Please, allow me to show you how to sew your stocking together.” Barbatos said as he got to his feet, moved around the table and sat down beside you. “Raphael taught me a particularly strong stitch that should hold nicely.”
You picked out the fabrics for your stocking, carefully cut around the sewing patterns and watched intently as Barbatos showed you how to sew and stitch patterns and even letters into your fabrics.
You had barely noticed how much time had passed by the time you finally finished your stocking and held it up so that you could admire your hard work.
“Oh? Have you finished it already?” Barbatos glanced up from his own work as he saw you move out of the corner of his eye.
“Yeah,” you nodded proudly as you turned to show Barbatos your work, “I made this one for you,” you added as you held out your stocking towards him.
“For me?” Barbatos stared at you for a moment before he slowly took the emerald green stocking from you and traced his fingers over his name that was stitched into the cuff in silver thread.
“It’s not as detailed as the one you made, but I wanted to make something for you.” You confessed in a sheepish voice.
“I think it’s wonderful,” Barbatos smiled warmly at you, “thank you, Mc. I will always treasure this gift… although, I must apologise,” his smile faltered a little.
“Apologise for what?”
“I think I’m going to need a little more time to finish the gift I’m making for you,” Barbatos chuckled as he motioned towards the stocking that he was halfway through making, “seeing as we might be here for a little while longer, why don’t I serve us some tea?”
Winter Moments — Diavolo
Day Eight of K’rasu’s Christmas Advent
You passed through the RAD corridors with Lucifer, having a much needed catch up as you told him about the various activities and outings you had shared with his brothers throughout the first two weeks of December while Lucifer shuffled through the papers in his hands and offered you warm smiles and nods to show that he was listening intently to your every word.
“It sounds like you’re making the most of the fest— hm?” Lucifer’s sentence fell short and his footsteps faltered as he picked out an envelope from the papers in his hand and stared at it with a perplexed expression.
“What’s wrong?” You asked as you eyed the envelope in Lucifer’s hand.
“It’s an envelope addressed to Lord Diavolo,” Lucifer said with a weary sigh and shook his head, “he must have accidentally mixed it in with the paperwork for the RAD winter festival. I’m worried that it may be something important.”
“Why don’t you head back to the council room?” You suggested. “You might find him there.”
“Lord Diavolo left RAD earlier today to attend to important royal duties, I’m actually taking over detention in Barbatos’s place today so that he didn’t have to return to RAD.”
“In that case, why don’t I deliver the letter to Lord Diavolo for you?”
Lucifer stared hesitantly between you and the envelope for a moment before he finally extended it towards you and watched as you carefully stowed it away in your bag.
“Thank you, Mc.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You ascended the stone steps that led to a set of large, wooden doors with iron forgings.
You gave the dark wood three heavy knocks, giving a startled jump as the door opened quicker than you expected and Diavolo peered out at you rather than the familiar demon butler you were expecting.
An excitable grin spread across the demon prince’s face as he spotted you.
“Ah, Mc!” He greeted you in his cheerful voice. “You’re just in time!”
“I’m just in time for what?” You asked with a bewildered expression. “Wait, where’s Barbatos?”
“Come in! Come in!” Diavolo opened the door wider and beckoned you inside without answering your question.
You did as Diavolo instructed and stepped over the threshold into the Demon Lord’s Castle only to find that the usually spacious entrance hall was now occupied by a large fir tree that stood in the centre of the room, you glanced up and felt sure that the top of the tree almost reached the high ceiling.
“What do you think?” Diavolo asked as he folded his arms across his chest and admired the tree proudly. “Isn’t it wonderful?”
“It sure is,” you replied, despite your confusion deepening.
“I’m glad that you agree,” Diavolo chuckled as he turned to you, “I overheard Satan talking to Luke and Simeon about the Christmas tree that you saw in the human world, so I thought that I’d try to recreate that magic here in the castle,” Diavolo explained as he then motioned towards heaps of colourful tinsel, strings of lights, and boxes of baubles and other festive ornaments that had been set down on the floor nearby, “I’m about to put the lights on the tree, if you’re not busy you’re more than welcome to help me with the decorations.”
You gave Diavolo a warm smile and nodded before you set about sorting through the boxes of baubles and ornaments while Diavolo began to unravel the lights.
“Did you have a specific colour scheme in mind or did you want to…?” You let your question falter as you turned towards Diavolo to find that he had somehow managed to tangle himself up in the Christmas lights in the few minutes that your back was turned.
Diavolo gave a sheepish chuckle as he stared at you helplessly while you tried to stifle a laugh.
“Here, let me help you,” you said, you tried your best to keep the mirth out of your voice as you stepped towards him.
You and Diavolo loosened the tangled wires of the Christmas lights and stepped around each other, laying the lights out to keep them from becoming entwined again and slowly freeing the demon prince as you shared laughter and directed each other’s next movements.
After you finally unravelled the last of the Christmas lights, you carefully wrapped the lights around the fir tree, letting Diavolo tackle the highest, harder to reach branches using his magic.
You helped Diavolo pick out the colours of the tinsel for the tree as well as the placement of the baubles and ornaments before you turned your attention towards making green bows that you attached to red and white peppermint candy canes.
“They look great!” Diavolo enthused as he admired your handiwork. “Do these candy canes go on the Christmas tree too? I think we should put one right… here!” Diavolo took one of the candy canes and hung it on the branch between the tinsel and a bauble before he turned back to you for your opinion.
“It looks too cluttered there,” you pointed out, “try moving it over a little more.”
“How about here?” Diavolo asked with a playful smile as he barely moved the candy cane. “Or here?” He moved it back to its original place. “Maybe I should put it on top of the tree?”
“That’s where the star goes,” you returned his smile as you shook your head.
Before you both knew it, your decorating had expanded to the rest of the entrance hall. Large, red ribbon was entwined between each bannister of the grand staircase complete with bows while garlands of mistletoe and holly were hung above every doorway or archway that was connected by Christmas wreaths.
After darkening the room so that the only source of light was from the bulbs on the Christmas tree, you and Diavolo sat cross-legged on the marble floor of the entrance hall and watched the twinkling lights.
“This truly is a marvellous tree,” Diavolo said in an awed voice, “even more so because I got to spend time and decorate it with you,,” he added as he flashed a grin in your direction, “I hope that I can share more memories just like this with you in the future, Mc.”
