If you’re going to make an argument and a claim, and you get into discourse over one piece of evidence when the alternative has presented almost ten sources, yet you continue to downplay my sources (fallacy argument btw) to make your source seem more valid, it’s really not. as I go through almost every post, every comment, every kind of support, the way we are responding to the bigots, the racists, homophobes and transphobia, reflects a lot on our movement. I understand that these people do not deserve the treatment or kindness in terms of educating these people, but responding immaturely is a huge reason why they refuse to listen.

Many of you are stuck on the “eye for an eye” and who am I to change that? However, the more we continue that, the more divided we will be in terms of this fight.

I’m a pansexual Mexican, I do deal with homophobia and racism, I get looked at as a thief, as a druggie, but it’s not just by white people! I get looks from black people, Asian people, etc. and the same goes for the way my people look at black people, Asian people, etc. Not a single one of us is unbiased because we all have grown up with certain ideologies, and it’s up to the individual to question that.

What we are doing is not making anything better and unless we learn how to respond in a manner that doesn’t put the commenter down (deserved or not), but if someone simply refuses to be educated, then let that be and block them. People will remain ignorant, but others who see that you are responding maturely will notice that you sound more educated than the person who comments based off of opinions and feelings.

With my generation, we use a lot of arguments with fallacies in them, especially those who are against human rights. The moment that you let your feelings get in the way of educating someone, is the moment that you’re letting them take advantage of you and what you say.

People will remain ignorant to what they do not experience, but in order for us to win this fight, we have to agree to disagree. We need to learn that we as a country will never agree on our quality of life, and we need to understand that our political system only divides us. If we cannot learn to agree to disagree, we are a lot closer to destroying ourselves than we are to destroying the planet (which is pretty close).

Note: I’m aware these people are shitty people, I’ve dealt with them on my behalf. This is not to excuse, justify, or allow racism, this is to continue to push a peaceful, more educated way to respond to these people.
