"Uncle Yo ni mgonjwa tena." I never understood what that meant. One day I heard that he raised his voice and threw a fit. Oh, I just thought it was an argument. Besides, that's mostly what adults did, right? I remember I was only 10...Uncle Yo was brought home from shagz. They said there were no good hospitals in Mombasa. I was so excited to come back home & hang out with him! He was my favorite uncle! I remember our conversations. They were a bit more confusing...less funny...more scary...less exciting. I didn't like that his responses were unpredictable...that I now had chills being close to him. "Auntie Dee might be sick" NOT AGAIN!!! Not another one...not another series of dramatic events...not another traumatic encounter. No.. Merceline, you know the drill..be nice, be loving, be gentle, always agree, remember to prepare to maintain boundaries, remember to not take offense, be polite when you feel offended, be kind with your words, be wise with your time. You can do this. It's not their fault. She's family. They're just sick. People have already talked. There's nothing new. This won't affect you!! Wrong. 5 years down the line, I'm struggling to be understood. 5 more and I'm tired of fighting to be understood. I was a child but my tiny heart and inexperienced mind led me to love and care for them...why doesn't the rest of the world get it? I don't expect much, but I thought at the very least good begets good..I wanted that to be true. Why was I feeling misjudged? Why was everyone focusing on WHAT? Why wasn't anyone interested in the WHY?? Watching @kinaseries_maishamagicplus & I see an episode where they introduce PTSD..they've been hinting the illness for about 5 episodes now, but today they mentioned it..it never affected me before but today it really did. I'm not used to Kenyans mentioning these things. I'm not used to seeing that others understand..that they care or that they are bold enough to mention it. Idk if that's why I'm so affected. Not sure if that's why I'm crying so much. Or maybe it's 'cause it's brought back all the pain that conservativeness & ignorance put me through. Ah😪. Every time I think it's over, I realize it's not. #ptsd #Bipolar https://www.instagram.com/p/CBotChBlmFI/?igshid=153fsgbm2yut5

People with depression need intervention and support, not well-meaning appeals for normalcy. The phrase, “It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it”🙄 only goes so far, because when it comes to talking to someone with bipolar, there are plenty of common phrases—no matter how well-intentioned—that hurt more than help.😔.. Hope this helps! #Depression #depressionhelp https://www.instagram.com/p/B_mrE90lp-5/?igshid=11mwrnqs02g8y
