We just went massively mainstream on BBC Radio 1
Tumblr media
Sandwiched in between Biffy Clyro and other such alternative glitterati, Antigen Records was somehow asked by our friends at BBC Suffolk to crash the Huw Stephens BBC Radio 1 show to take our message to the kids.
You can catch up on iPlayer and skip straight to 2 hours 20 minutes if you’re that way inclined, where you can hear label head Jason grumble his way through the trials and tribulations of the Suffolk music scene.
Some truly fantastic tracks from deadratorchestra, Dingus Khan, henryhomesweet and Mick Squalor are spun - along with a brand new super top secret track you’ll have to stream on the above link to check out.
Sorry.
Next stop, Jason will be picketing the producers of the Graham Norton show to see if we can do a bit with Lady Ga Ga or something.

A New Record For Fans of 19th Century Animation Techniques
Tumblr media
Dark folk heroes 'Dead Rat Orchestra' have released a record in a suitably ridiculous format, befitting of the wider Antigen Records back catalogue.
Culled from performances in Colchester, London and Milan, the two-disc audio/visual special edition of this album includes bonus “video” material, which can be viewed using the earliest recorded animation device - the phenakistoscope.
The phenakistoscope was invented by Belgian physicist Joseph Plateau in 1832, based on the work of Michael Faraday and Peter Mark Roget. It is a printed cardboard disc with images separated by radial slots and is spun by hand, using a pin as an axis. The viewer looks through the slots into a mirror and a stroboscopic effect creates the illusion of animation
This is the first Dead Rat Orchestra album to document the band’s long-held interest in traditional song, with a two mile swamp holler from North Carolina, a Spanish song of sewing arranged for violin, meat cleaver and wooden block and a harrowing tale of work experience gone bad among the album’s many highlights.
Purchases can be made at the usual Antigen Webstore.

A quick rendition of Goose and Stalks filmed in St Martin’s Church, Colchester, Essex. It’s developing - couldn’t quite nail it (it was bloody cold). Composed overlooking the fish market in Amsterdam, September 2013. Dedicated to Catherine Metayer - you and Jeremy were such an inspirations this last year, and I miss you both loads!

Watching Henry Homesweet in action is always something to truly behold. He's the UK's leading chip tune musician and you can catch him on Friday 11th October at Ipswich's Royal Oak in the UK.
Also playing are London based math- rockers Axes (http://weareaxes.bandcamp.com/), one of the only post-prog groups to feature a violin, trumpet AND laptop These Are End Times (http://theseareendtimes.com/) and Suffolk drone/shoegaze artist Bride - who plays so f*cking loud he's been known to empty a room in seconds (http://brideburger.bandcamp.com/).

For those who like their design, this is a genuinely great look at the history of typography. No, we didn't just select a pre-installed typeface. It went to committee and everything.

Nice to see some real love put into a release. Old school zine goodness.

Adam Gnade & The Hot Earth All-Stars, Greater Mythology Blues (download record w/ zine) by Adam Gnade
Recommended if you like: Major key old-country shuffles with lyrics about wild dogs, ruined shacks, and hospitals. Derailed/decayed blues. Abandoned noise-folk...

Massar Egbari, Will Newsome and Osten Milne live at Cafe OTO
Daniel Merrill, from Dead Rat Orchestra and Sons of Joy, is promoting a special night at Cafe OTO, London on Sunday 17 February.
Tumblr media
This is the first London show of Egyptian polit-rock group Massar Egbari, kora folk artist Will Newsome and Osten Milne, who apparently plays the saxophone and seems to have no online presence at all - as far as we can tell.
Dan is set to perform alongside Will Newsome and Antigen ringleader Jason Whittaker will be upsetting the hipsters with a beatless DJ set.
It will be worth attending for this latter shambles alone.

Rory and Ned's irrepressible rise to fame
The people at 'Mangoneblog' are getting excited about our good friends Rory and Ned. And rightly so.
Reporter Michael O’ Farrell describes them as "Joyfully careless acoustic garage rock, guaranteed to make you smile."
"They are the precise polar opposite of those boring fuckers who sit in their bedrooms uploading videos to YouTube with titles like ‘Sweep-Picked Arpeggio String Skipping Exercises, part 9'"
We agree, which is why their debut album is due on Antigen Records this spring. Hear a preview on our Caveat Emptor 2 compilation. Catch the full review here.

Tickets for John Callaghan, Hypnotique and Languid Live at St Jude's Tavern Ipswich
Antigen Records, in association with Dead Air Recordings, is proud to present three pioneering electronic artistes, who will perform live in an intimate environment for your entertainment.
Suffolk's Hypnotique is a gothic chanteuse and virtuoso performer of that oddest of all electronic instruments, the theremin, Miss Hypnotique will regale you with songs of ritual voodoo sacrifice, allotments and Princess Diana. She will be launching her latest single "Give Me An England" - available only on wax cylinder (yes, really) via Dead Air Recordings.
Languid will bring his cut-and-shut sampling beats that teeter on the edge of several genres, but certainly something entirely unique. Check out his collaboration with Haley Smith on our recently issued compilation: Caveat Emptor 2.
Finally, singer, songwriter, DJ, video artist, nude model and renaissance man in a suitcase...John Callaghan will return to Ipswich with bag of tatty costumes for his unforgettable auto-karaoke show. I mean literally unforgettable - there will be images you will be unable to erase from your mind after witnessing this show.
The show will be held on Friday 1 February upstairs in the lounge at St Jude's Brewery Tavern, Norwich Road IP1 2EP. The venue has a very limited capacity so it is recommended that you purchase a ticket (for a mere £4) in advance online.
If you purchase a ticket via the Antigen Records site, you will be contacted by e-mail and given a unique ticket number. Please bring this with you to the event. There will be no physical tickets.
For further info (or if you would like a ticket but do not have a PayPal account), feel free to send an e-mail to Jason at: [email protected]
