Polar Nights chapters 1 & 2 highlights (spoilers)

I’ve managed to come across the first two chapters of Polar Nights that were apparently posted as temporary previews on Google Books (thanks @antoineharrakblog​ for sharing them  - they were a nice distraction from the terrible IRL news I got today). I wanted to share my thoughts on them and make note of everything that stood out to me. I won’t be posting entire pages but I will share a few excerpts that I especially liked. I wouldn’t say these are major spoilers but they’re definitely spoilers. So be warned…

**SPOILERS INCOMING!**

This first excerpt pretty much establishes that Anna and Elsa see each other often. I also like the mention that Elsa keeps her bedroom in Arendelle (which is in my fanfic as well!)

Based on the following excerpt, I get the impression that the Northuldra got kind of shafted in this story and that their only appearances will be in discussions by other characters rather than in person. I could be wrong though and maybe they’ll return from their journey later in the story. But it’s nice that they’re at least acknowledged, which hasn’t been the case for any of the post-Frozen 2 comics and storybooks so far.

There were some adorable Frohana moments already in just the first two chapters! I especially loved this little exchange.

And the last excerpt I want to mention gives us a short glimpse into what Elsa’s been doing in the forest. Unfortunately the conversation gets cut off but I’m hoping we’ll learn more later in the story (also nice that so far it doesn’t contradict anything in my headcanons, lol).

And here’s a few other things I thought were worth mentioning…

-For some reason I thought the story was going to be in first-person like Dangerous Secrets, but instead it’s in third-person limited (which I think I like better for this particular story)

-The story confirms that Elsa’s birthday is the winter solstice

-Bruni is referred to as “it” instead of being given a gender, which I’m not a fan of. Not sure if this was a Disney higher-ups decision (I could have sworn one of the animators confirmed his gender) but it de-humanizes him in my opinion

-The kingdoms of Vesterland and Chatho are mentioned, as well as Anna’s friendship with Princess Mari

-Mattias has been helping Anna with her duties

-A group of pirates led by a female captain have been hanging around Arendelle’s waters - not sure what role they will play

-Runeard was involved in the story about the draugr

-Chapter 2 ends with Elsa trying to show Anna a memory of their parents using her ice magic, but she’s unable to (most likely from the draugr’s influence). This gives the impression that Elsa has learned to use her magic to show memories anywhere, even if the memory didn’t take place in that exact location

Overall, I enjoyed what I’ve read so far. Mari and Jen did a great job with the Frohana moments in these chapters and I can’t wait to see how it goes when the story gets “darker”!

Original (lullaby) ending of All Is Found

Thanks @scrfilms for centering, stabilizing and cropping the vid! I need to learn how to do that.

I spliced in the music and vocals from the outtake track (track 12 of Deluxe edition) and tried to brighten and improve the color.

The animation differs from the original from "dive down deep into her sound" onwards. Iduna looks out at the aurora, while Elsa looks troubled and lifts her head to looks at her mother. This is followed by a long scene between mother and daughter while sitting on the bed, where Iduna gently caresses Elsa's face (my heart!) and then holds her hands, caressing them, and finally ends with Iduna kissing Elsa's hands (not captured in this video but seen in other media which I will post)
