weird things i've encountered in my job search so far
for reference i'm looking for digital marketing and tech jobs :
applying to a job, to be rejected less than an hour later, but can't be told why on the count of 'high volume of applications'
going to apply to a job, but leaving once they asked me to record a video of myself explaining why i'm a good fit for the role. they then proceeded to email me demanding my national insurance number, copy of my passport (these are not required at this stage of recruitment by the way, and they can be used for identity fraud in the wrong hands), and their email opt out / account deletion pages were broken (on purpose i suspect)
showing up to a junior web developer interview, to be asked for five examples of websites i've done myself else i couldn't go further. when i inevitably didn't have five sites the interviewer tried to encourage me to sign up to his company's web dev bootcamp
when researching a cyber security company for a marketing role, they claimed on their website they were 'able to infiltrate private encrypted applications' in one of their case studies
when researching a digital marketing agency, they had a video of some of their team members deepfaked by AI, saying these team members were going to 'lead the charge in leveraging cutting-edge AI tools that supercharge our clients' digital transformations.'
applying to a job, to be rejected a day later. but when receive an email literally the minute after i was rejected asking for feedback on my experience

the UK's 'anti-BDS' boycott bill is returning to parliament for a third reading and vote Wednesday 10th of January.
this proposed law is not aimed at individuals, it would be impossible to stop people from boycotting, but instead targets public bodies like universities, public sectors, and councils in the UK. this would prevent public bodies from making ethical choices about where they want to invest their employee's pension funds. e.g. pension funds could be invested into companies that make arms for countries committing genocide.
the anti-boycott bill explicitly mentions Israel, trying to give them protection from public body boycotts as well as undermine the Palestinian led campaign for boycotting. it's disgusting and disgraceful.
share and reblog this post with your UK friends if you are not a UK resident.
UK residents, contact your MP and demand they oppose the anti-boycott bill. Palestine Solidary Campaign UK have an email template here.
UK residents, if you are able to join, Palestine Solidarity Campaign have organised a protest during the anti-boycott bill vote, Wednesday 10th of January outside of Parliament, London.
UK residents, if you are able to join, Palestine Solidarity Campaign UK have organised their 7th National March for Palestine, Saturday 13th of January in London.

one thing i love that i don't see in a lot of games that i play is the ability for the audience to interact with the players. like i was playing jackbox with my DnD group not too long ago and we were playing job job. someone joined after we had started so they had to wait for us to finish the game, but it turns out jackbox has a feature for people in the audience.
Tumblr media
this is a photo from the game trailer. that poster can be edited by people in the audience while they are waiting.
and recently i started playing 'clone drone in the danger zone', which also has a very unique game mode for audience interaction where people on twitch can bet.
Tumblr media
if you're not familiar with how the game works, the general idea is that you're put into an arena as a robot and made to battle other robots, you can upgrade as you go further on. but in that mode, they can bet on how the player will die, add enemies, help the player etc. i love that idea of adding another level of interactivity to streams
