forever is in your eyes
buddie | T | 3k
"dad, c’mon." eddie just arches a brow. "you don't have to hide that you and buck are dating anymore."
eddie nearly chokes on his next breath. "what?" he blinks, stares at chris, and does a pretty good impression of a dying fish as he tries to figure out what to say to that. "we're not dating."
"dad," christopher says, disbelief coloring his tone. "i'm not blind."
-
or the one where eddie needed his son to help him realize he's dating his best friend (it's okay because buck didn't realize it either)

50 A Softer World Prompts
Send an ask with a number + a ship.
Our love is a forest fire and we are the little things that live in the trees. (Today is the most exciting day of our lives.)
At my worst, I worry you’ll realize you deserve better.  At my best, I worry you won’t. (I’ve never been better.)
If loud, weird public sex is wrong, then being wrong is wicked hot. (right and wrong are just guidelines to hotter sex)
i don’t know what the fuck true love even is but i do want to hang out with you for basically the rest of my life. (let’s hang out - TO THE DEATH)
my five year plan is to maybe go out for ice cream this afternoon? (Live every day like the ice cream store is closing.)
I have loved since you.  But when the new paint gets scratched, there you are underneath. (My heart is layers of scar.)
I know your weakness.  It’s kisses.  You are doomed. (Don’t worry.  We’re all doomed eventually.)
Ah, unrequited love.  When your best isn’t enough. (Participation medals of the heart.)
CAN’T STOP WON’T STOP NOT SURE HOW TO STOP (WHY STOP)
When you touch me, my mind is gone.  The only words I know are lost inside your body. (right in there.)
hey, i’m liking your photos at 2am because i want to make out.  i’m texting you at noon because i want to make out.  i woke up today because i (we don’t need words)
It’s a full moon.  I bought some rope and handcuffs to bring to bed tonight. (beware the moon.)
You aren’t really a good person, but god damn, you make bad look awesome. (no one could steer me right, but mama tried.)
I think I’ve got fireflies where my caution should be. (Instead of slowing down, I just shine brighter.)
No no, we aren’t breaking up!  You didn’t let me finish.  I’m gay for YOU. (And I’m queer for math!)
Roses are red, Violets are blue, You can do whatever you want to me. (please do.)
I do not believe in love at first sight.  But god damn. (Look at you.)
I don’t know how to make things right.  So I’ll just keep pretending that nothing’s wrong. (you know that I’m no good)
When I look at you all I can see are the mistakes we’re going to make. (The future’s so bright.)
If something seems too good to be true, quick!  put it in your mouth! (before anything can go wrong!)
To thine own self be wicked sexy. (And then send pics.)
Today’s a perfect day for naked cuddling.  I don’t even care what day it is.  Every day is perfect. (I’m gonna spend it with you.)
We talk in the dark as we fall asleep, and we are objects in the night sky outside of time. (it is the exact opposite of alone.)
I joined Plenty of Fish to find out who stole my bike.  A fun first date would be going to your house to see if you have my bike. (What a lovely home.  Do you have a shed?)
This town isn’t big enough for the both of us.  Let’s run away together! (Let’s join a street gang!  Is NASA recruiting?)
I love you the way a knife loves a heart the way a bomb loves a crowd the way your mother warned you about, essentially. (the way a human loves another human)
Our love is like.  Our love is only like. (I like you.  I don’t LIKE like you.)
I miss doing nothing with you. (I miss not having to pretend to like your family.)
I hate it when you leave but I love to look at your butt while you walk away. (it gives me sexual arousal.)
In a dark, dark wood there was a dark, dark house and in that dark, dark house I think we should get drunk and fool around. (I want dirt under my fingernails.)
I love the way your face lights up when someone says, “It might be dangerous.” (I am glad we are friends.)
I think you are beautiful and I would like to kiss you.  I can think up some clever lines, if you’d prefer.  But I wanted to say that, first. (None of those lines seemed to be about you or me.)
I cannot help but notice we are sitting-in-a-tree.  So, you know, maybe we could think of something to do… verb-wise. (I want us to gerund, essentially.)
When you’re around I don’t know how to hide my feelings.  I count in binary, in my head.  zero one one zero one one and you count clouds. (while you count clouds)
I hate trying to put my desire into words when my body knows exactly what to say.  Come home. (You can’t start a fire without a spark.)
I love you but I don’t love you enough to give up falling in love. (anyway, happy anniversary!)
on the paper, she had written “you” and she told me “that’s a list of the people who are standing too close.” (I ain’t your pal.)
You are the love of my life so far. (Tomorrow’s just a day away.)
There should be a word for a threat that is also a promise.  Because that is what I want you to hold me down and do. (I love you)
I laugh along but inside I know that it’s true: Being in love is totally punk rock. (quiet kisses are so hardcore)
I don’t believe each person has just one true love, but sometimes we don’t have enough time to find another. (That’s the way it crumbles.  Cookie-wise.)
I would love you more if you were someone who could love me. (buy your love by playing make believe.)
Fun things to yell during sex: Anything. (he is risen.)
I am writing a book of love poetry for you.  For example: “The only reason you could possibly need your music that loud is if you were planning to listen from my apartment.  You downstairs motherfuckers.” (Every day I hope to see a moving truck pull in.  Or an ambulance.)
when I picture you with your new lover I get angry, and then sad, then kinda horny. (I miss you)
We are terrible for each other, and, yes, we are a disaster.  But tell me your heart doesn’t race for a hurricane or a burning building.  I’d rather die terrified than live forever. (mistakes aren’t always regrets)
If they invented a way to actually have sex over the internet you and I could use that glorious technology for internet hugs. (You know, when I wasn’t using it for sex.)
Life would be way easier if I were easier. (Fact.)
I want to rob lumber mills and hospitals with you and just bewilder the hell out of people the way love should. (We will make everything wrong in the right way.)
I will always love you, or anyway I will always have loved you now. (And you will always be someone who was beautiful, once.)

Zizhen paused and Jingyi realized he’d let himself get dragged to one of the secret corners of the manor. It was Zizhen’s favorite spot, where he went when he needed to get away from the pressures of being a soon-to-be sect leader. It was also where he liked to push Jingyi against the wall and kiss him senseless.
Jingyi hummed when the lips pressed against his. It had been too long since the last time they’d gotten any time to themselves - they’d managed to sneak away at the last discussion conference, but that had been almost two months prior- and there was a desperation to their hands as their fingers tangled in robes and slid through hair.

freckles | a sangcheng drabble
Ao3
-
Something was tickling Jiang Cheng’s nose.
Something was tickling his nose and it woke him up.
He frowned, wrinkling his nose as he slowly blinked his eyes open, not at all surprised to see Nie Huaisang hovering over him. His boyfriend smiled down at him, one hand pressed into the bed next to his head, the other just barely touching his face.
“Good morning, A-Cheng.”
“What are you doing?” His voice was low and rough, almost a growl, sleep still valiantly trying to cling to him.
“Counting your freckles.”
Jiang Cheng blinked and opened his mouth, but all that came out was a quiet sigh when the brush of fingers returned. Nie Huaisang kept his touch so light it was barely there, yet Jiang Cheng still felt the spark of electricity against his skin.
“Why?”
Nie Huaisang hummed, the tip of his index finger tracing a line from Jiang Cheng’s nose to the corner of his eye. The touch was soft and Jiang Cheng’s eyes fluttered shut when the finger brushed over his brow.
“Because I want to kiss every single one, and I need to know how many there are so I don’t miss any.”
Jiang Cheng breathed a laugh, tilting his head when he felt the warm puff of air against his cheek. He kept his eyes closed as Nie Huaisang peppered kisses across his cheeks and over his eyes, fluttered them open when he felt the lips press against the tip of his nose before dropping lower. Nie Huaisang hovered over him, hair falling around his shoulders in a curtain, hazel eyes glowing golden in the morning light as he smiled down at Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng reached up, his fingers sliding across Nie Huaisang’s cheek to cup his face in his hands. Nie Huaisang made a happy noise, something that almost sounded like a purr, and nuzzled into Jiang Cheng’s touch.
“Good morning, A-Sang,” Jiang Cheng breathed.
The space between their mouths grew smaller as Nie Huaisang dipped his head, the distance barely more a hair’s breadth.
“Did you get them all?”
Nie Huaisang hummed, his eyes half-lidded, long lashes sweeping over his cheeks as he moved impossibly closer.
“I’ve only just started.” He spoke the words against Jiang Cheng’s lips, their mouths coming together in a soft kiss. Nie Huaisang’s fingers traveled lower, dancing down his neck to tease at the collar of his shirt, and he pulled back far enough to grin down at Jiang Cheng. The curve of his lips made Jiang Cheng’s stomach twist and flip as his heart stuttered against his ribs. “I said I was going to kiss them all, and I meant it.”
Jiang Cheng arched his brow, breathing another laugh when Nie Hauisang brushed his lips over his cheeks before claiming his mouth in another gentle kiss.

title: a place to belong fandom: the untamed ship: sangcheng prompt: “You sleep with the stuffed animal I got you?” “Of course” tags: established relationship, cuddling & snuggling, fluff, modern setting
on Ao3
-
Jiang Cheng always felt out of place in the soft light of Nie Huaisang’s apartment. He was nothing like the art that lined the walls - scenic paintings that filled the room with shades of green and blue, breathing life into the space. He was afraid of breaking the delicate figurines that dotted the shelves - porcelain birds and glass pieces that had to cost a fortune.
It was painfully obvious that he didn’t belong among all the art, that he was just a stain on the otherwise perfect canvas.
“Wanyin.”
Hands touched his face, fingers soft and calloused against his skin, drawing him out of his thoughts. His eyes drifted from the small blue bird he’d been staring at, to the wide hazel eyes that stared up at him, glowing and golden in the afternoon sun.
“A-Sang.”
Huaisang’s fingers traced over his cheeks and slid across his brows, smoothing the furrow that had formed between them. “What are you thinking so hard about?”
There were flecks of green in Huaisang’s eyes, little bursts of color among the brown and gold.
“Nothing.”
Hauisang hummed, fingers brushing over his jaw. Jiang Cheng wasn’t sure when he’d gotten so close - close enough that he could taste the tea that still lingered on Huaisang’s breath.
“I don’t believe you.” He breathed the words into the space between them and Jiang Cheng closed his eyes against the force of his stare. Sometimes he felt like Huaisang could see through him, see all the way to his soul.
Huaisang hummed again and Jiang Cheng felt his fingers curl around his neck, felt the lips brush over his jaw.
“I’m tired.”
Jiang Cheng blinked his eyes open, surprised that Huaisang dropped it so quickly. Normally if his boyfriend wanted something he would stop at nothing to get it, whether it was the last piece of pizza or the thoughts in Jiang Cheng’s head, but he just stared up at Jiang Cheng with bright eyes and a warm smile.
“You should sleep then.”
Huaisang hummed, fingers sliding down to lace through Jiang Cheng’s.
“Only if you come with me.”
Jiang Cheng wasn’t that tired himself, but he was never one to turn down an opportunity to cuddle Huaisang and he let himself get tugged towards the bedroom.
Like the rest of the apartment the bedroom was full of art - paintings of skylines, fiery sunsets in shades of orange and purple and fluffy clouds that looked real enough to touch. There were photos dotting the walls, some of Huaisang’s brother, others of his friends - memories of his life. Jiang Cheng’s gaze paused on a photo of himself, smiling at the camera with his fingers thrown up in a peace sign.
“I like to kiss it before I go to bed,” Huaisang said, tugging him further into the room. “It’s almost as good as kissing you.”
He laughed at the flush that scorched across Jiang Cheng’s cheeks and pushed him towards the bed. His knees bumped against the mattress and he fell, bouncing once before settling against the pile of pillows. The green comforter was soft under his hands, and Huaisang climbed on top of him, nuzzling into his neck with a soft sigh.
“Mm, perfect.” Hauisang melted further into Jiang Cheng when one of his hands came up to trace the line of his spine, dancing towards his head and back down in slow, languid movements.
His other hand slid across the bed, pausing when he felt something soft brush against the back of it. His brow furrowed and he picked the object up, surprised to see the little stuffed husky he had given Huaisang on a whim one day.
“Do you … do you sleep with this?”
Hauisang hummed and lifted his head just enough to see what Jiang Cheng was talking about, when he saw the husky he grinned and reached up to take it, hugging it close to his chest.
“Of course.” He pressed a kiss to the top of the husky’s head, resting his chin on Jiang Cheng’s chest to stare up at him. “I named him A-Cheng, and he sleeps with me when you can’t.”
Warmth flowed through Jiang Cheng and he slid both arms around Huaisang’s waist, squeezing the other man against his chest as his emotions threatened to drown him.
“I love you.” He breathed the words into Huaisang’s hair, pressing a kiss to the top of his head.
Huaisang breathed a laugh and he felt the brush of lips against his neck. “I love you too.”
Jiang Cheng always felt out of place in Huaisang’s apartment. He wasn’t like the art that lined the walls and dotted the shelves, he wasn’t delicate and soft, he wasn’t beautiful, and yet … Huaisang loved him. Huaisang kissed his photo before bed and slept with the stuffed animal he’d given him, named it A-Cheng after him.
Huaisang had made a space for him among all the art - a space in his heart, a place where he belonged.

meng yao always sleeps sandwiched between mingjue - head pillowed on his arm, fingers pressing against the hot skin beneath his shirt - and xichen - kept warm by the press of a body against his back, an arm around his waist, fingers splayed across his stomach.
he doesn’t always start there.
some nights he goes to bed before even xichen - on the days when he’s just too tired - and he’ll wake up sometime during the night, held so tightly by two sets of arms that he can barely breathe. yet those nights he breathes the deepest he ever does, the weight of the two bodies a comfort.
some nights he goes to bed after xichen, and those nights he curls up close to his side, his fingers only a breath away from touching skin. he rolls away to let xichen have his space, only to find himself tugged back by a hand on his wrist, the chest below him warm and solid. he stares down at xichen - who didn’t even wake up - and he can’t help but let himself fall just a little bit more in love.
those nights mingjue tries not to wake them, but meng yao is a light sleeper and mingjue’s steps are hard to make soft. meng yao reaches for him as he sits on the edge of the bed - a rough hand slides across sheets to meet his, fingers lacing through his own. mingjue doesn’t crowd him, but somehow by the morning the hand will have become an arm around him, his body pressed close to meng yao’s.
some nights he’s the last to bed. he stands in the doorway and stares at the mess of limbs that make up his lovers, at the way mingjue holds xichen to his chest like he’s something precious - he is - at the way xichen’s arm is stretched across the empty bed, like he’s searching for something - someone - that isn’t there.
meng yao stares at them and wonders how there could possibly be a place for him, wonders how he ever thought he could belong.
he climbs into the empty space and makes himself as small as he can, a gnawing emptiness eating at his insides, his thoughts too loud to let him sleep.
those nights he is alone.
until xichen finds what he’s been searching for and rolls towards him, his chest pressing flush against his back, heartbeat a steady reminder - i am here. i am yours. i love you.
until mingjue reaches across the body between them, his fingers soft and gentle as they slide through meng yao’s, a reminder that he is there too, that he always will be - you are here. you are ours. you are loved.
those nights love settles over meng yao like a blanket and he doesn’t question it, doesn’t deny the warmth that flutters against his chest
those nights he lets himself be loved

Jiang Cheng sees him stumble and throws his arms out to catch the smaller man before he can tumble off the docks and into the water below.
“Careful.” His voice is a low rumble, the body in his arms pressing snug against him. He tries not to think about how well Nie Huaisang fits against him, tries not to notice how warm and soft he is.
“Thank you, Wanyin,” Huaisang breathes with a soft laugh, peering up at Jiang Cheng from beneath his sweeping lashes. “I would hate to ruin these robes.”
Jiang Cheng grunts, it’s the most he can do when Huaisang rests a hand on his arm, delicate fingers squeezing ever so softly before he steps away, out of reach. Jiang Cheng has to curl his hands into fists to stop himself from grabbing him back, from hugging him closer and never letting him go.
“What would I do without you?” Huaisang is looking at him, eyes golden in the sunlight and glittering like the river that surrounds them.
Huaisang is looking at him and Jiang Cheng can’t look away, can barely even remember to breathe.
The smile that flits across Huaisang’s lips is coy and he takes a step closer, once again closing the distance between them. He doesn’t press himself against Jiang Cheng, doesn’t do more than rest a hand on his shoulder and rise on his toes. The scent of ink and roses fills Jiang Cheng’s head, the soft breath of a kiss just barely brushing the corner of his mouth.
He doesn’t make the choice to grab Huaisang, doesn't tell his hand to curl around the back of his neck, doesn’t choose to slide an arm around his waist and tug him close. He doesn’t choose to, but he does it anyway.
“Wanyin.” His name is a surprised gasp on Huaisang’s lips and he swallows it with a hungry kiss, mouth slanting across Huaisang’s as the arm around his waist presses him impossibly closer.
Huaisang is warm against him, his body soft in ways that Jiang Cheng’s isn’t. The hand on his shoulder grips tight enough to bruise but Jiang Cheng doesn’t mind, especially not when his other hand slides up to cup Jiang Cheng’s jaw, short nails scratching at the spot just below his ear. He moans at the sensation, sliding his mouth lower to pepper kisses over Huaisang’s jaw and down, nipping softly at the skin of his neck.
“Wanyin,” Huaisang gasps, hands sliding into Jiang Cheng’s hair, fingers tugging and teasing at the soft strands. “Oh Wanyin, what am I to do with you?”
Jiang Cheng makes a noise somewhere between a gasp and a growl, sharp stings of pain soothed by gentle fingers as he moves his mouth back to Huaisang’s. He wants to devour him, wants to swallow every sound that slips from between those lips, wants to lock him away where no one else can ever look at him.
He breaks the kiss, presses his mouth to Huaisang’s jaw as he breathes heavily against the skin there.
“Not that I’m complaining,” Huaisang says, fingers sliding through Jiang Cheng’s hair and down his back. “But we are in public.”
Jiang Cheng scoffs and presses another kiss against Huaisang’s neck before pulling back. “This is my home, I can do whatever I please wherever I please.”
There is a flush dusting Huaisang’s cheeks, his lips swollen from the kiss, his eyes sparkling.
“Oh? Whatever you please? And what is it you want to do right now?”
Jiang Cheng growls, fingers flexing on Huaisang’s hips. He wants to pick Huaisang up, throw him over his shoulder and stalk to his rooms, wants to throw away all his responsibilities and just spend the hours, days, years loving the man in front of him.
“You know what I want.”
Huaisang laughs, the sound breathless and bright, his hands sliding back up to cup Jiang Cheng’s cheeks, his fingers tracing the line of his jaw, his lips.
“I do,” he hums, smile soft as he leans forward to brush another kiss to the corner of Jiang Cheng’s mouth. “But it must wait.”
He steps out of Jiang Cheng’s arms, one hand sliding down to lace their fingers together. Jiang Cheng groans, but lets himself be tugged towards the halls and the responsibilities that wait within, taking comfort in the warmth of the hand wrapped around his.
He can wait.
If it’s for Huaisang, he’ll wait forever.

Title: stay with me Fandom: The Untamed Ship: lingyi Tags: post-canon, fluff, first kiss, drunken kissing, alcohol, cuddling & snuggling, literal sleeping together Summary:
Jingyi knew he was going to kiss him, knew that he should really stop it. His fingers slid into Jin Ling’s hair, the silky locks no longer neatly tied back, but loose and wild around his face. It was the most disheveled Jingyi had ever seen Jin Ling, and it made something tug against his heart.
“A-Yi.”
Jingyi knew he should stop it.
“Jin Ling.”
Jingyi knew that he couldn't.

-
The night hunt had been a success and the celebration that followed was loud, the boys fueled by alcohol and the high of a good hunt.
Jingyi grinned across the table at Zizhen as the two of them raised their cups, tossing the wine back at the same time.
“I warned you,” Jingyi said, lowering the cup with a grin. “I might be a Lan, but that doesn’t mean I can’t hold my liquor!”
Sizhui nodded beside him, the faintest flush coloring his cheeks. He hadn’t had as much wine as the rest of them, wanting to be sober enough to take care of any problems that might arise, but Jingyi had managed to convince him that one drink wouldn’t hurt. Then Zizhen had poured him the second and Sizhui couldn’t refuse, nor could he refuse the third.
To anyone else Sizhui probably still appeared sober, but Jingyi didn’t miss the way he was staring a little too intently at Zizhen who was swaying in his seat.
“Admit defeat!” Zizhen’s voice was slurred, his cheeks flushed as he stared at Jingyi with glittering eyes. Jingyi could feel the warmth of the alcohol buzzing through his veins and knew he was nearing his limits, but it was clear Zizhen was even closer.
“Never!” He poured them both another cup, raising it in a toast. They both tossed their drinks back at the same time and Jingyi hissed his breath out between his teeth as the buzz spread to his head. He definitely only had a few more drinks before he would have to call it quits.
He looked at Zizhen who was sitting perfectly still, staring straight ahead with a dazed expression on his face, and realized he probably didn’t have to worry about losing.
Suddenly Zizhen dropped, his head thumping against the table so loudly that Sizhui jumped.
“Well,” Sizhui said with a soft laugh. “Guess you win.” He shifted over to slide an arm around Zizhen’s waist, heaving the other boy off the ground. “I’ll take him to his room.” Sizhui paused once he got to his feet, glancing around at the remaining disciples. “Can you make sure they all get to their rooms?”
Jingyi nodded, and then kept nodding. The alcohol was singing through his veins now, his thoughts fuzzy and warm as he smiled up at Sizhui.
“You can count on me!”
Sizhui stared at him for a beat longer, the doubt clear in his gaze, but he just took a deep breath and smiled, dipping his head in a nod before heading for the stairs.
Jingyi stayed at his table for a moment, eyeing the bottle of liquor.
“I can have one more drink,” he murmured to himself, reaching for the bottle, but before he could grab it another hand closed around it.
“Hey!” He looked up, his protests dying on his lips as he watched Jin Ling tip the bottle back, draining the rest of the liquor in one gulp. His eyes traced the movement of Jin Ling’s throat as he swallowed, the warmth of the alcohol erupting into flames of desire.
“Jin Ling!” The name burst from his lips as he smiled up at Jin Ling. He knew his smile was a little too wide, a little too bright, and he tried to tamp down on his emotions, tried to pretend like he wasn’t overcome with love at just the sight of Jin Ling.
“I win.”
Jingyi blinked in surprise, his smile twisting into a grin when he realized what Jin Ling meant. “Yeah, okay. You’re the best drinker.”
Jin Ling’s smile was bright, lacking its usual haughty arrogance. Instead he just looked happy.
He swayed slightly and Jingyi was on his feet in a heartbeat, his hands gripping Jin Ling’s arms tighter than necessary. Jin Ling froze, his mouth parting in a quiet gasp as he looked down at the spot Jingyi was touching. His ears burned a bright red and when he met Jingyi’s eyes his own were dazed.
“Jingyi.” His voice was barely more than a whisper and it made Jingyi’s heart stutter against his ribs. He cleared his throat and looked away from Jin Ling’s wide eyes before he did something stupid like kiss him.
The rest of the disciples were spread throughout the room and Jingyi focused on them instead.
“Alright guys, get to your rooms!” A few groans came from the remaining disciples but no one argued as they got to their feet and stumbled to the rooms. Jingyi glanced around at the mess they’d left and sighed, glad that Sizhui had thought ahead and paid extra.
“You too,” Jingyi said to the boy in his arms. Jin Ling went limp in response, falling against Jingyi’s chest.
“Carry me.” It was a pout and a command all in one and Jingyi shook his head with a laugh.
“No way, you’re too heavy.”
Jin Ling stomped his foot. “I am not!” As if to prove it he threw himself at Jingyi, climbing him like a tree until his arms were around his shoulders and his legs around his waist. Jingyi immediately settled his arms under Jin Ling’s thighs to hold him in place and tried to not to notice how right the other boy felt pressed against him.
“See?” Jin Ling’s smile was smug and Jingyi rolled his eyes.
“You’re going to regret this when you’re sober.”
Jin Ling just breathed a laugh and pressed his face against Jingyi’s neck. Jingyi’s fingers curled into fists as the scent of Jin Ling filled his head; crisp and cool, like a spring breeze coming off the river. The breath puffing against his skin was warm, the body pressed against his blazing. It took all of Jingyi’s power and concentration to get his feet moving.
Jin Ling hummed and nuzzled his nose along the line of Jingyi’s neck, making Jingyi falter as a shiver danced down his spine. He nearly missed the next step and stumbled, his grip on Jin Ling tightening, but the other body didn’t seem bothered by it. In fact … he almost seemed to press himself closer.
“Jin Ling, what are you doing?” Jingyi’s voice was strained as he forced himself up another step.
“You smell good.”
He paused at the top of the stairs, taking a moment to just close his eyes and breathe deep. He’d never seen this side of Jin Ling before, hadn’t known that he could be this soft and sweet. It was making Jingyi’s already painful crush so much worse.
“You’re really gonna hate yourself tomorrow,” he said, instead of saying any of the other things bouncing around in his head.
You smell better. I never want to let you go. You belong here, in my arms.
I love you.
Jin Ling snorted, the sound a warm cloud against Jingyi’s skin. “That’s a problem for tomorrow Jin Ling.”
Jingyi rolled his eyes and finally pushed open the door to Jin Ling’s room. There was only one bed, Jin Ling of course too good to share with someone, and Jingyi quickly deposited him on it, or at least tried to. The limbs Jin Ling had wrapped around Jingyi were like iron and no matter how much he pulled the other boy refused to let go.
“Jin Ling, if you don’t release me then I can’t go to my own room.”
Jin Ling huffed, but finally let go and fell to the bed. As soon as he was free Jingyi slid back a step, only to realize that Jin Ling hadn’t fully released him. One hand was curled in his robe, gripping so tight his knuckles were white.
“Jin Ling, you’ve got to let go.”
Jin Ling muttered something too quiet for Jingyi to make out what he was saying, but he could have sworn he heard “don’t go”.
A soft smile hovered over Jingyi’s lips and he lowered himself to sit on the edge of the bed, one hand settling over Jin Ling’s. He didn’t untangle the fingers though, instead he squeezed them softly as he leaned closer to Jin Ling.
“Jin Ling … do you want me to stay?”
“Mm.”
His smile spread wider as warmth filled his chest. This side of Jin Ling was just too cute, and although Jingyi was sure in the morning he’d get a beating for it, he couldn’t stop himself from reaching out and brushing a hand over Jin Ling’s cheek. His fingers traced the line of his jaw as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind his ear, and his breath caught when Jin Ling nuzzled into his touch.
“A-Ling,” he breathed. “You’re going to kill me.”
Jin Ling blinked his eyes open, staring up at Jingyi from beneath his lashes. His smile was slow, his eyes sparkling as he reached his free hand up to touch Jingyi’s face.
“I like you too much to kill you.”
Jingyi blinked and tried to wrap his head around what he’d just heard. It was just the alcohol, it had to be. Either Jingyi had misheard him, or … or he was just saying things because he was drunk.
But that didn’t stop Jingyi’s heart from trying to beat its way out of his chest. His fingers traced Jin Ling’s jaw, brushed over his cheeks, kissed his lips. He was going to commit this moment to memory.
“A-Yi.”
Jingyi closed his eyes and took a deep, shaky breath. The hand on his cheek traced a trail of fire down his neck, curling around the back with a gentle squeeze. He wanted to open his eyes, to see what kind of expression Jin Ling was making, but he was afraid his heart wouldn’t be able to survive it.
“A-Ling.” Jin Ling’s scent flooded his head and he shuddered out a breath. “You’re drunk.”
“Mm.”
“I’m drunk.”
“Mm.”
He felt pressure on his neck and his eyes blinked open, Jin Ling’s face coming into focus. A furrow had formed between his brows and a soft frown tugged at his lips, his bright eyes focused on Jingyi’s mouth.
“Jin Ling.”
Jingyi knew that he couldn’t.
His eyes fluttered shut at the first touch of lips against his, but he forced them back open, not wanting to miss a single moment of this. Jin Ling tasted sweet like candy and the wine that still lingered on his tongue, it filled all of Jingyi’s senses, drowning him.
It was a soft kiss at first, hesitant and gentle, but when Jingyi didn’t pull away, Jin Ling grew more bold. He pulled Jingyi closer, and Jingyi let him, settling across his chest. He could feel the erratic beat of Jin Ling’s heart, knew that Jin Ling could feel his own heart doing the same.
A second hand slid up to curl in his hair and for just a moment he thought he felt a tug on his ribbon, but the sharp sting of teeth nipping his bottom lip distracted him. Jin Ling hummed, a pleased sound that Jingyi swallowed before breaking away to press a kiss to the corner of Jin Ling’s mouth.
Jin Ling chased after his lips, but Jingyi pulled back further with a small shake of his head. Jin Ling stared at him, his expression going from soft to hard in a heartbeat. A flush colored his cheeks and he slid his hands away from Jingyi’s face, pressing them against his chest to push him away instead.
“If you didn’t want to, you should have just said so.” Jin Ling turned his face away, a scowl darkening his expression, and Jingyi sat back in surprise.
“What?”
A muscle in Jin Ling’s jaw twitched and he snapped his head to the side with a glare. “You didn’t have to force yourself to kiss me!”
“Force myself? What makes you think I was forcing myself?”
Suddenly Jin Ling was sitting up, his face far too close to Jingyi’s, the hands against his chest curling into fists. “You pulled away.”
“Because we’re drunk! Not because I didn’t want to!”
Jin Ling froze, his eyes widening for a beat before narrowing. “That’s-”
“And before you say that it doesn’t matter, it does!” He paused and took a deep breath, reaching up to curl his fingers around Jin Ling’s fists. “You can’t honestly say you would do this sober.”
Jin Ling wouldn’t meet his eyes, staring instead at their hands. “I would!”
Jingyi breathed a laugh. “Would you? Really?” He could feel the answering tremble in Jin Ling’s hands and he brought them to his mouth, brushing a featherlight kiss to his knuckles. “I don’t want this to be a regret.”
“I wouldn’t …” Jin Ling paused and shook his head, his brow furrowing as he frowned at Jingyi’s chest. “I’m not going to regret this.”
Jingyi wanted to believe that, he really did.
Jin Ling sighed and fell back on the bed, his hands dropping to his sides as Jingyi let them go. He wanted to grab them back, curling his fingers and pressing them against his thighs instead.
“Will you still stay with me?” Jin Ling’s voice was hesitant, his eyes darting to Jingyi’s face and away too quick to catch.
“I …”
Jin Ling’s hand slid across the bed, fingers tangling in the ends of Jinyi’s ribbon. His breath caught and their eyes met, Jin Ling’s fierce and bright. “I promise I won’t regret this.”
Jingyi didn’t even try to fight it. He sighed and let Jin Ling tug him into the bed, curling up against his side. Jingyi hesitated for only a moment before sliding an arm around his waist to hold him closer, smiling when Jin Ling rested one hand on his chest, the ribbon still wrapped around his fingers.
“You do know what the ribbon means, right?”
“Shut up,” Jin Ling grumbled, nuzzling his nose against the slope of Jingyi’s neck. “Or I really will punch you tomorrow morning.”
Jingyi breathed a laugh, his fingers teasing the ends of Jin Ling’s hair. He wanted to take in every moment, memorize every breath, but it didn’t take long for the warmth at his side and the soft scent of Jin Ling to lull him to sleep.
---
Jingyi woke slowly, taking a moment to appreciate the soft morning light and the warmth of the body beside him. His thoughts churned through the haze of a hangover, the events of the night before bleeding back into his consciousness. When he realized what had happened, who the body beside him was, his heart stuttered in his chest.
Jin Ling.
He had kissed Jin Ling.
Jin Ling had kissed him.
The memory was like a ghost against his skin, causing a fire to roar through his veins. At the same moment ice settled heavy in his chest, a reminder that as sweet as the kiss had been, it had been a mistake. They might be able to brush it off with a laugh, a drunken mishap, never to happen again, but Jingyi knew he would never forget it.
His feelings for Jin Ling ran too deep for that.
He sighed and glanced at the body beside him, at Jin Ling curled close to his side like a kitten. His face was softened with slip, his long lashes resting against his cheeks, his mouth slack, lips parted just enough for a quiet snore to escape.
Pain stabbed at Jingyi’s heart and he fought the urge to reach out and touch Jin Ling’s cheek, to run his fingers along the soft skin, to trace those lips. Instead, he curled his fingers into tight fists and frowned.
He should get out of bed, out of the room, out of the town, before Jin Ling woke up. Yet Jin Ling was so warm, and Jingyi wasn’t sure he would ever get another moment like this, another chance to wake up in bed with the man he loved.
“What am I going to do?”
His eyes widened when he felt the tug on his ribbon, his gaze snapping to Jin Ling’s hands. They were curled in the space between them, the light blue ribbon wrapped around his fingers.
“Stay.” The quiet whisper was barely more than a breath, and Jingyi wasn’t sure he even heard it. He couldn’t take his eyes away from Jin Ling’s hands, from the ribbon gripped in them.
“Jin Ling …”
One of the hands untangled from the ribbon, reaching up to brush soft fingers against his cheek. He let Jin Ling turn his head, let his gaze move to Jin Ling’s, to the bright eyes and soft smile that couldn’t possibly be for him.
“I don’t regret it.”
Jingyi blinked, remembered last night, remembered his words, and a blush scorched his cheeks. He licked his suddenly dry lips and swallowed thickly, his heart doing its best to climb its way out his throat as the hand on his cheek slid down, fingers curling around the back of his neck.
“Are you sure?”
Jin Ling snorted a laugh, the sound puffing against Jingyi’s mouth. When had his face gotten so close to Jingyi’s?
“Positive.”
Then there were lips on his, a soft brush that could barely be considered a kiss, but it sent a shock of lightning through his veins all the same. He let his eyes slip closed, let himself just feel.
Jin Ling smelled like citrus, like the spring rain on a sunny day. Jingyi’s hands slid up to cup his neck, to brush his thumbs over his jaw, to draw him closer until he was practically laying on top of Jingyi. Jin Ling made a noise, his other hand sliding up to press against Jingyi’s chest, the ribbon still tangled in his fingers.
“A-Ling.” Jingyi breathed the name into the kiss, filled it with all the emotions swirling in his chest. There were no words to describe how he felt, nothing he could say that would capture the warmth and the love that filled him to his very core. “A-Ling, I love you.”
Jin Ling gasped and Jingyi swallowed the sound, his hands sliding through Jin Ling’s hair, his tongue dancing across Jin Ling’s lips. The taste of wine still lingered, but beneath that was the taste of Jin Ling; sweet like sugar, more intoxicating than wine.
He wanted to spend the rest of his life tasting Jin Ling.
They broke apart and Jin Ling lowered his head, pressing his forehead against Jingyi’s collarbone as he gasped in breath. Jingyi’s fingers slid through Jin Ling’s hair, hands stroking down his spine to settle at his hips. At some point Jin Ling had climbed fully on top of him, knees straddling his hips, chests pressed together. Jingyi could feel the erratic beat of Jin Ling’s heart and he smiled, brushing a kiss over Jin Ling’s hair.
“You know, you’re never going to get rid of me now.”
Jin Ling huffed and raised his gaze to Jingyi’s. “What makes you think I would want to?”
Jingyi’s heart soared, his lips twitching with the smile he couldn’t contain. Jin Ling brushed his fingers over Jingyi’s cheek, his smile soft and full of love, and Jingyi nuzzled into the touch.
“I love you, Lan Jingyi.”
Jingyi didn’t think it was possible to be as happy as he was at that moment, didn’t think he would ever get to experience this, never wanted it to end.
But time didn’t stop for anyone, and a knock on the door shattered the moment.
“Jin Ling?” Sizhui’s voice drifted through the door. “Are you awake?”
Jin Ling looked at the door and back at Jingyi, a frown creasing his brow, and Jingyi arched one of his in response.
“Yeah,” Jin Ling called, not looking away from Jingyi’s face.
“Have you seen Jingyi? He wasn’t in-” The door slid open and Sizhui’s voice trailed off. Jingyi shot a glance his way, unable to stop the laugh when he saw how wide Sizhui’s eyes were.
To his credit, Sizhui took the scene in front of him well, only the faintest blush coloring his ears as he stared at Jingyi practically pinned to the bed by a very disheveled Jin Ling.
“Hey Sizhui.”
Sizhui cleared his throat, his lips twitching with a smile. “Well, that answers my question.” He shook his head and turned away. “We’ll be leaving soon, so make yourselves presentable.”
Jingyi laughed as the door slid shut and relaxed back on the bed. Jin Ling stared at the door for a moment longer before dropping his head back to Jingyi’s chest.
“He’s going to tell everyone.”
Jingyi laughed, brushing his fingers through Jin Ling’s hair. “No, he’s going to tell Zizhen, and Zizhen is going to tell everyone.”
“You’re right.” Jin Ling lifted his head to stare up at Jingyi from beneath his lashes. “I still don’t regret it.”
His heart swelled with love and his fingers slid across Jin Ling’s face to brush over his lips, his own turning up with a smile when Jin Ling chased the touch.
“I love you.”
Jin Ling’s eyes drifted shut, his smile soft as he pressed a kiss to Jingyi’s palm.
“C’mon,” Jin Ling said, sliding off the bed. “Before Sizhui comes back and drags us out.”
Jingyi smiled and followed Jin Ling, pausing just long enough to tug Jin Ling against him and press another kiss to his mouth, reveling in the fact that he could.
“A-Yi.” His voice was a plea and a warning all at once and Jingyi could hear everything he didn’t say.
Do it again, do it more.
Hold me closer, never let me go.
“Your hair is a mess.”
Jin Ling huffed and glared at Jingyi, but there was no fire behind it, only a soft warmth. He reached up to brush his fingers over Jingyi’s ribbon and Jingyi’s breath caught in his throat.
“Your ribbon is crooked.”
Jingyi hummed and dipped his head, smiling as he felt Jin Ling’s fingers slide along the ribbon. When he was satisfied he took a small step back and grinned at Jingyi.
“Perfect.”
You are.
Jingyi didn’t know how his life had managed to lead to this moment, didn’t know how he got so lucky to not only have Jin Ling to love, but have Jin Ling love him in return. He didn’t feel like he deserved it, but now that he had it he was never going to let it go.
He was never going to let him go.
Stay with me forever.
