A powerful sorceress and voodoo practitioner, Mama Magnolia is something of an enigma, and has been around since the 1800's. Despite being a magical powerhouse, she has a very warm demeanor and a soft spot for helping lost souls and misfits that find themselves at her door. As far as the general public knows, she's simply the eccentric owner of a world-class Cajun restaurant, but the dark forces of the world know to stay well out of her way... PS: The snake is named JuJu, and he's an albino Burmese Python -- really big, but surprisingly. She also has two giant albino alligators named Brutus and Nero that guard her home. (This is actually a recolor of an older drawing. I'm still learning how to shade darker skin tones, but this is definitely an improvement over the last version.)

Zachary Price

A headshot sketch of Zach, who is the final member of the trio for the wizard story. His backstory is probably going to undergo a bit of revision, but as it stands now, he’s a preppy surfer from a well known family in the local area whose life got turned upside down when he was bitten by a rogue werewolf one night on the beach. 

Without  a pack to support him through the transition, he spent the first month undergoing changes that he didn’t understand and wasn’t prepared for, and his first moon ended with him waking up naked in the woods, covered in dirt and leaves. 

It was at this point that he met Ms. Hazel, who was waiting for him with a blanket, some clothes, and some water. She explained to him what had happened, and what he was now, and that she didn’t mean him any harm. She offered to take him in for as long as he needed, to teach him how to manage his new condition, and -- without any other options he could see -- Zach agreed.

It’s been a few years since that day, and Zachary has settled in quite nicely at the cabin. Being a naturally laid-back and cheery individual, he took lycanthropy in stride and learned to live with -- even enjoy -- his new abilities, and he stays at the cabin helping where he can out of gratitude towards Ms. Hazel.  When Jamie arrived, Zach was the first of the trio to greet him, and more or less made it his mission to help the poor, isolated young man in any way he could.

Long story short, imagine a nearly seven foot tall surfer with the personality and adherence to personal space as a overeager golden retriever that has no idea how big it is.

Just a doodle of Tychus to practice drawing that particular face angle, which is the bane of my existence. Not much to say here. 

He tends to wear less fancy / spacey clothing than a lot of people in the story because he tends to like simple stuff.

Wand Designs for the main cast of my wizard story. I might go back and revise some of them later. In this verse, wands are often created by -- and grow with -- the wizard or witch they are used by. The materials of the wands have to 'resonate' properly with the energies of the user, and certain wands are better at certain kinds of magic than others. They have personalities -- some are more stubborn and hard to work with than others -- and are very unique to the user, changing over time as their magic develops. From top to bottom: * Jamie -- Not sure about wood type, but the wand is elementally attuned for lightning, and the metal bits are pure silver. * Kim -- Peach wood, with opal in the wing inlays. Attuned primarily for illusion magic and transfiguration; symbolizes change. * Ms. Hazel -- Holly wood, with gold and an amber stone. Attunes her to the natural world (amber being fossilized tree sap), but also to fire (holly color and association with fire).

Ms. Hazel, the vaguely Celtic den mother of the Safehouse. Not as clean as I would’ve liked but I wanted to get something done to introduce her. She’s a very down-to-earth sort of witch who is very in tune with natural sorts of magic, which makes her current home in the Redwood Forests perfect.

Some studies I did to show about how the point of separation would look like when Tychus detaches somewhere. I'm not entirely sold on the glow effect but I think it helps denote the magical nature of the change. Usually all it takes to remove a piece from Ty -- when he's not actively opposing it -- is a forceful tug, at which point the part in question will just cleanly pop right off. Tychus experiences no pain from the process, and actually describes it as 'warm' and 'pleasant'. Ty is still able to move his pieces remotely, regardless of distance, and is able to somehow perceive things in the nearby area through them. If a piece other than the head remains detached for too long, Ty can fairly quickly generate a replacement, with the speed being dependent on the body-mass that he has to replace. Hands and feet, being extremities, are the easiest to replace, then arms and legs, and so on. The left over 'spare' is still alive, however, and retains a 'shadow' of Tychus' personality, occasionally developing minds of their own and getting into trouble, although he can assert control over them with a little bit of focus.  He's still not sure how much control he actually has over his body sometimes, and isn't really keen on testing it out; nor is he keen to explore what the limits of his ability to regenerate pieces are.

Tychus

Tychus is a member of the same race as Kalion, and is his 'I talk a big game but I'm actually a big teddy bear" boyfriend. The two of them are part of an as-yet unnamed faction of military police that are sent on missions to help and protect younger species within their sphere of influence. Tychus was born on a world of dense forests and rugged mountains, and this wild, somewhat dangerous upbringing contributed to his considerable physical abilities. He is known through his precinct as a strong and cunning warrior, and the kind of person you want to have your back in a fight. He and Kalion met at the Academy and after a fair bit of unrequited pining ended up thrown together. He's a pretty intense guy, kinda gruff and cocky, but around Kal he melts and just wants cuddles. Tychus is also a talented shapeshifter. While most members of his species are capable of it, Ty is very adept and is able to assume many different animal forms. This is largely due to the fact that Tychus suffers from a genetic quirk that causes his physical form to be somewhat fluid and unstable. While this aids him in changing his physical form and healing from injuries quickly, it also can cause bits of him to just harmlessly fall off if he's not paying attention, sort of like a dullahan. While not super uncommon (it's largely considered a party trick in most cases, like being double jointed), Ty was really insecure about his condition, which he saw as a weakness and a vulnerability. With help from Kal, however, he's starting to come around to the idea of it being not so bad, especially since it opens up all sorts of creative new ways to tease his shy country boyfriend... (This actually wasn't meant to be a full pic, just practice, but it turned out pretty well and I was too lazy to draw pants so....tasteful semi-nude I guess?)

Kalion -- a character of mine from a separate story to the wizards. He is a member of what amounts to a race of space elves / angels with advanced magic and technology that are the inspiration behind many earth myths.

A talented, if perhaps overconfident young witch, Kimberly Han is a second-generation American hailing from a long line of mages stretching back to Imperial China. She is fiercely intelligent and ambitious, but after graduating college fell on hard times trying to secure a job in the midst of the chaotic, post-revelation world. Currently, she lives at the Safehouse and trains with Miss Hazel, the witch in charge of it. She and Jamie bond over their mutual interest and passion for magic, each teaching the other what they know, but sometimes her headstrong nature leads her to experiment in things beyond what she is currently capable of, leading to sometimes disastrous results -- something that another denizen of the Safehouse, Zachary Price, learned firsthand.

One of the main characters for a little project I'm working on and hoping to share with you all, Jamie is a young wizard trying to survive in a time of upheaval after the mundane and magical worlds collide. As a skilled practitioner of the arcane, Jamie is very skilled in working complex magic, but has a particular fondness for lightning.
