A fun assignment where we drafted the Construction details of north light truss on our studio floor in live scale. The case study was of a printing factory close to the university campus.

Public Amenities Center
Design project finalized from the village documentation. According to the data collected there were no Dormitories for the visitors who come to visit the famous temple in the village during the festival time.
A Public Amenities Center which consists of Dormitories and a restaurant would give shelter to the visitors during festivals and the added facilities would make the visit more comfortable.

Documentation.
For our third semester design project we documented a village. The history, planning, age of the buildings, people, culture, streets, layouts. By the end of the those three days of documentation we knew everything about the village, from the history to the number of wells the village had. It was such an amazing experience. we documented few very old houses in the village. The plan in the picture above is of a 110 year old house which i documented.
There was so much to learn! The old ways of building construction, use of mud blocks, mud plaster, lime plaster, wooden blocks for the rafters of the roof. All the materials were locally available.
i also realized the importance of courtyards in the life of people back then. A very common feature in most of the rural houses in India, Which serves as a central gathering place for the family, a space for light to enter and also used for the collection of rain water.
We later designed a Public Heath Center and a Public Amenities Center for the village from the inference that was drawn after the documentation.

i miss those first year days! when i knew less of the practical stuff. I dint care which form or shape would work better.
Inspiration can come from anywhere! I still get inspired from the small, less important things we see around us everyday. It becomes a big deal deal when i actually use them when i design.
