Comments on Zuckerberg’s Metaverse
https://onezero.medium.com/i-want-no-part-of-our-impending-metaverse-future-459678bb3cc5
A Metaverse world is a potential danger to society, breeding depression, addiction and mental health issues. When we make the virtual world better than the real world, the implications are huge.

The future of living and working
In the article, the author suggests humans don’t need to do anything that could be done by machines. But they still have to pay for the work to a “central bank,” and the central bank will distribute resources to humans.
It sounds like communism to me. It doesn’t make sense.

Online publications/guides for creators
1. Newspaper is dead. New opportunities for online content creators.
2. Content platforms are furthering their legitimacy in the online space. In other words, creators should focus more on the long game. Things keep the value as time passes.
3. When people subscribe to a channel/website/author, they want to hear from them including ads of their fields. A considerable percentage of subscribers will pay for knowledge if you can market it to your list.

Concerns about AI
The interview talks about some problems brought by AI. First, AI can hardly be commercialized at current stage. Companies can’t make a profit by building AI. The task of building AI is heavily manual and complex. Also they need advanced hardware to store and use the data.
Also, another big problem is AI ethics. With current technologies, there are circumstances that machines have to go back to humans. They need to know when otherwise serious accidents might happen. The people who train the AI are biased. To minimize bias’ effects on AI, the models have to be safe, transparent and accountable.

Hybrid Healthcare
The article suggests covid-19 has accelerate the development of virtual care. The future of healthcare is most likely a hybrid model. Hybrid healthcare addresses many current problems such as the lack of clinicians. It also makes healthcare more affordable to the public. But I think there are also many problems to be solved. For example, people are still not sure if tele-health affect the accuracy of diagnosing. If the doctor requests a lab test, the patient has to take extra steps to a test organization. So the whole system has to be well designed in order to provide people better experience. Moreover, AR and AI will play an important role (e.g use AI to monitor patient’s disease). But this will cause problems for under-developed communities where people can’t afford smart devices or don’t have access to the Internet.

Week 2 - Insurance and AI
This week I read an interesting article about how artificial intelligence might affect insurance industry and what insurers should do to prepare for this trend. I think the most intriguing argument is insurance will shift from its current state of “detect and repair” to “predict and prevent,” and cover all aspects of people’s lives. With the rise of wearable devices will provide companies more insightful data that helps them provide more personalized plans for everyone. Moreover, robotics like automation will shift the risk model and change customers’ expectations on the products.
I agree with the author about how AI and technologies will impact insurance industry. It will make people’s life easier and more protected. But from a consumer’s perspective, I also think we need to sacrifice too much privacy for the convenience. Wearable devices will know everything we see, hear and say. The companies have to make sure they’re reliable and won’t steal unauthorized data from consumers. It still takes a lot of effort to convince people the safety while technologies constantly improve the effectiveness.
