I feel like a lot of those "my dad and the cat he didn't want" posts and the "I got a pet and it improved my mental health" posts are both affected by the same bias, which is people don't tend to publicly post about regretting animals. It's a milder version of how people don't tend to announce they regret having children. Like I believe people are sharing their actual experiences when they discuss positive relationships to the animals in their life, but I also think there is a conspicuous silence of people who don't broadcast that they did a mediocre job of taking care of the dog they wish they hadn't got.

i love truck stops in winter bc i love a little good old fashioned reconnaissance. i’m at a wyoming truck stop eating taco bell with a bunch of random truckers discussing road conditions like we’re in a high fantasy tavern & inn and we’re warning each other about monsters and highway men. everyone talking about where we’re coming from and going to and how bad it’ll be getting there.
THE tallest man i’ve ever seen in real life just stopped me in the hallway by the coin operated laundry apropos of nothing and asked “which direction are you going?” i said east and he said “good” and walked away.
i caught up with him and asked why and he said “west’s no good right now. i just came from there.”
apparently a truck jackknifed and has traffic backed up ten miles but he sounded for all the world like he just found his village raised to the ground by an evil mage’s army

Well, you know what they say; Rome was built in a day, and if you're going any slower than that, you're basically fucked with no hope at all

my senior coworker is leaving me on fucking read after i text him re:an event i'm supposed to be helping plan for This Very Saturday, when my text was extremely diplomatic about the fact that i already emailed him about this Last Fucking Week, Bro. Come on now. At least have the decency to view my text in notifications without opening it so that I can tell myself you just haven't checked your texts today.

I am forever grateful to an archivist mentor I worked with in grad school for some resume advice she gave me and thought maybe others would also benefit from it.
Keep a Master Resume.
This is not the resume you send out. This is a detailed resume of every job (with dates and location, supervisor and location phone number are a bonus) and as many skills/duties/accomplishments you can possibly think of for each and every one of the jobs and education programs you can think of.
She showed me hers, it was about 25 pages long, and formatted exactly like a regular resume for ease. Every time she would learn a new program/skill, she'd add it. Change in title or duties, add it. Complete something big/special/complicated/new to her/professionally significant, she would add it. This way when she went up for a promotion or raise, she had a detailed record of highlights to pick from to show she deserved it. There was no "when was that? Did I submit that last round of reviews?"
Applying to a new job? Pick and choose items from your Master Resume to plug in to the resume or CV you will be sending based on the job posting. You don't need to rewrite it, just cut and paste relevant details.
#already having done this was incredibly helpful earlier this year when i was applying to jobs in various fields#i cannot recommend this strategy highly enough tbh#work
