100 OIL PORTRAIT CHALLENGE 

Hi there 👋. I am undertaking one of the biggest projects ever so far. Making of 100 portraiture in oil by the end of 2023.  The main goal of taking up this challenge is to build skill, expertise & above all enjoy something that I love to do.  Oil portraiture for me has never been easy…. As being a self taught artist I am my own critic, teacher & companion. With this challenge I would like to give a chance to further develop these 3 faculties. 

To accomplish this one of the most critical factor is YOUR SUPPORT. My first sketch on a tinted paper. A few days back i saw an amazing figure sketch by @bcliston & that motivated me enough to tint the paper by water color, get my hands on a conte pencil & start sketching.... it doesn’t matter what the outcome is but what mattered was the journey. Oil on paper. This small study helped me understand the medium to paint consistency. This is made without using any medium. Color thickness is good. I really loved playing with the thick paint but the brushwork didn’t come out as expected. A study of the great poet, artist, writer, thinker who in his time was the first non European Nobel prize winner. I have seen some of his painting sketches and sketchbooks. His school shantiniketan oozes creative energy and artistic thought. A truly inspirational towering figure in indian culture. Some experimentation i tried in portrait with loose painterly style. Its quite easy to work in procreate as there are helpers like undo, layers, masks, selections & adjustments etc. I felt that its a bit less experiential than actual traditional art. The mental dialogue & happy accidents are very few & its more concrete.... like a machine!!! The first portrait i ever finished. This was a few years back. I am still trying to acquire the art of portraiture.... my style is developing towards using thick pint with visible brush strokes. Not much of blending.... What i have understood by my limited experience is that Drawing from pencil is very different from painting.
