[Hello everyone, Arbor-mun here!
Given that tumblr management seems determined to burn their own property to the ground, I’m making my mandatory in-case-of-fire announcement. I expected to be mostly offline until after the holidays, but since tumblr, and more importantly, all the wonderful people I interacted with here, might not still be around at that point:
I was planning to have a personal, non-RP blog here, over at @sophus-b. (It’s rather content-free at the moment, I’m afraid.) I’ve also created a Dreamwidth, at https://sophus.dreamwidth.org/, so if we end up migrating there, you can find me there as well.
Until tumblr stops being on fire and/or finishes burning to the ground, I plan to cross-post any original content I create to both sites.
Furthermore, I am usually available on Discord; my User ID there is Sophus hash 7079.
This isn’t exactly the kind of holiday festivities I wanted to see from my social media, but I hope everyone enjoys (and survives) the bonfire!
I’ll see you all on the 18th, on one platform or another!
(For any Amenta RP folk who are not on the discord, don’t panic: The excellent @strictlyquadrilateral has backed up the entirety of amentumblr! Thank you Square, you rock!) ]

It's the time of turning and there's something stirring outside It's the time of turning and the old world's falling Nothing you can do can stop the next emerging Time of the turning and we'd better learn to say our goodbyes
If we can stand up When all else falls down We'll last through the winter We'll last through the storms We'll last through the north winds That bring down the ice and snow We'll last through the long nights Till the green field's growing again Growing again
Me and my cutie and sweetie all just hopped on the train to port!
And in a couple hours we’ll all be on the ~boat to Miolee~!
And to everyone I know in Miolee: It’ll be so much fun to see you all in person! And I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone there!

Well, I think you're pretty great.
And ~I think you’re great too~, anon!
And in fact, everything is pretty great right now!  So, we’ve just finished packing, and the weather report for Miolee predicts nothing but ~clear skies all week~!

So, don’t worry, I’m definitely going to make my mun write ~plenty of fixfic~!
And you should all tell them to get started on it, and stop dragging their heels on this “facecasting” thing they keep on telling me about!
But, I don’t really understand why they need to go find a bunch of photos of ~someone else that looks like me~ before they start, anyway! Why don’t they just ask me for photos of myself?
~I look like me, after all~!
So, I I think your world is ~really interesting~ from what I’ve seen on your version of Tumblr! The cultural differences are totally an amenthropologist’s fondest wish! And there are ~definitely some Blackout fans~ that’ll want to visit you!
And I’m glad that it seems like your lack of any castes is working out for you! I was really surprised when I noticed that you don’t seem to have ~anything caste shaped at all~!
And it’s really neat that humans can go do whatever job they want, and it works out okay! And it looks like this adds a lot of cool variety into your music and books and shows that you don’t see frequently in Amentan media! (Though I was also really surprised that you don’t have nearly as many ~science songs~! Apparently that’s a really niche genre on Earth!)
And it sounds like your lack of castes meant that ~no one ever got hereditary polluted~, which is really wonderful!!!
But I have noticed a few things that seem sad from my perspective?
So, based on the way you guys talk about your beuracratic systems, it sounds like your culture expects everyone to be a ~little bit yellow~! And I’ve seen several people write about how they’ve been hurt by way your world treats people with greenbrains!
And having a real-life sci-fi system where ~everyone’s allowed to do everything~ is a really cool cultural setup!
But it seems like sometimes you expect ~everyone~ to be a little bit good at everything! And I think that this can hurt people who aren’t!
And if I had grown up on Earth, I think I would have been one of them.
15, 39 , 48
15. Ever tasted an experiment?
I don’t fuck with chemistry or approach cooking the way I approach science, so I guess not?
39. Do you code? if yes, how many languages?
Yes, like….8? I lost count around 3.
48. What’s your favorite molecule?
Uhh glutamate I guess since I’m eating miso potatoes right now
(also, you should make a real tumblr Sophus <3)

"the professions that got to go to space first are all grey and green ... but it’s not because of their ~caste~, it’s because ~those are the castes that happen to work in space colonization related jobs~!" I don't understand your distinction here. If all jobs that get to go to space first are of a certain caste, then it's *because of their caste* that they get to go to space.
So, what I was trying to say is that no one thought, “I hate purples and oranges! They don’t ~deserve~ to be the first Amentans to see space! And so I’m going to choose other castes ~because I like them better~!”
But they did choose astronauts to go to space first, because going to space is ~literally their job~! And this did result in greens and greys being the first to space! But it wasn’t ~because of casteism~!
So, what I was saying is that it’s only casteist in the sense that ~having a caste system at all~ is casteist! (So not really, in any meaningful sense of the word!)

How can you justify the fact that the first amentans who got to go to space were all greens and greys?
ANSWER ME, you casteist green!
So, I understand why you’re unhappy! You want to be in space ~now~, and waiting is no fun at all!
But I do think it would help to note that while the first Amentans who got to go to space were all green and grey, it’s not ~directly because of their caste~! Because after all, none of my coworkers or I were eligible to join the initial planet search, and we’re all greens! And you aren’t seeing any dancers or arcball players in space either!
And this is because ~none of us are astronauts~, or astrophysicists, or planetary explorers, or xenobiologists, or ~any of the other professions~ that would be in the very first ships!
And so, the professions that got to go to space first are all grey and green! It’s true! But it’s not because of their ~caste~, it’s because ~those are the castes that happen to work in space colonization related jobs~!
And that is unfair, and I’m sorry you’re sad about it! But it’s unfair in the way that empty springs, or hereditary pollution is unfair!
That is to say, it’s unfair in a way that’s going to be ~completely fixed soon~!
So I’m sure you’ll be able to find a spot in one of the ~later colonization waves~! Because once we start establishing actual societies, we’re going to need ~every caste~ to build worlds that work!
So good luck, anon!!! I’m sure that whatever your job is, you’ll get to go to one of the planets soon!

You are and have always been the dumbest person on tumblr. Reading your blog and seeing that you somehow have friends has gotten me through some hard seasons. I love knowing that even someone as thoroughly worthless as you can succeed. It gives me hope.
So, ~cool story~ anon!

You should be the first dancer in space! Create the first zero-gravity dance style!
That’s really sweet of you but I’ve actually missed that milestone!  ^_^
check out this historical footage of Adgia be-Faro on the first international station!  (she studied dance for more than a year before taking up piloting, my teacher showed us this clip when we were choosing tracks in primary school)
[Grainy clip with Cenemi captions and terrible sound quality of a short-haired grey in a confined space full of instruments, doing some truly impressive pirouettes and things regardless.  It’s almost more acrobatics than dance, as she switches which surface is the ‘floor’ about every time she touches ‘down’.  The link is to the eight-minute timestamp in a longer video; before and after the dance, other astronauts demonstrate wringing out a washcloth, playing with gyroscopes and toy racecars, brushing teeth, etc.]

So I’ve been rereading some of the books on my shelf, and here’s a recommendation that you’ve ~probably heard before~! But if you’ve somehow missed it until now, let me recommend to you a fantasy classic from ~decades ago~!
Published only years after the advent of worldwide population controls, Sinoki on the Edge of Rainbows is a story about becoming an adult, and gaining adult responsibilities! Sinoki on the Edge of Rainbows is a story about loosing the aimless innocence of childhood, and replacing it with purpose!
And Sinoki on the Edge of Rainbows is a story about growing up into a changing world, and how you can change it in turn!
~And how you change with it, too~.
And I think that this is a theme that’s as relevant now as it was back then!
Sinoki is a dreamer; she has been so her whole life. She spends her idle time, sleeping and waking, in the dreamworld she builds in her head, an expansive kingdom of fantasy that bends at her every whim.
Her favorite spot to overlook her domain is the pier: a construct she created before memory, high above everything else, upon which she can view her entire world below her.
One night, as she dreams of sitting upon her pier, she prepares to dive into the sea of clouds below, abruptly pushing off against the wooden planks beneath her. She grips too hard-- a splinter enters her palm, and the pain of it abruptly jolts her awake.
Sinoki wakes, sitting in her bedroom once again.
In the center of her palm, there is still a splinter.
Somehow, the world inside Sinoki’s head is real.
And when you have the whole world in your hands, what do you do with it?
