A drawing I’ve done recently and forgot to post …

A concept of sorts… I was missing Jamaica and began watching videos of traditional dances and such which explains her dress.

Revisiting the characters from a short story of mine called, Henry’s Heaven. I redesigned Navaeh a little bit, keeping her vitiligo, and Henry had been giving me the hardest time because I couldn’t settle on a look for him… until now.

More info below the cut:

Henry is a 16 year old kid with tourette’s syndrome struggling with handling his uncontrollable tics and moody classmates. Formally homeschooled since the start of his condition, his parents thought it’d be best for him to become more social and independent by ushering him to finish out the rest of his required learning in a public High School. He’s a 5′9″ mixed kid (half Filipino half Puerto Rican) with social anxiety and a rice pudding addiction. He soon finds himself catching feelings for a girl who doesn’t let her lack of skill stop her from doing something she enjoys. Her boldness intrigues, but his desire to stay under the radar is foiled because no matter how hard he tries to steer clear of her, he’s only brought more close.

Naveah is a 17 year old young lady of many… abilities. She dances, sings, plays the ukelele, and even does track and field. Of course she isn’t perfect at these things, in fact, she’s only really good at the ukelele.. sort of- but none of that stops her from doing it. Her parents are both from Ghana but she was born in the US. Unlike Henry, she is more social and carries herself very well in front of a crowd. She’s also fluent in ASL and is a bit of a musical junkie. When she meets Henry it seemed he just couldn’t keep himself out of trouble. Some people think he’s weird and other’s could care less, Naveah see’s something in him and all she wants is to help him bring it out.

This story is very much a WIP, anything is subject to be changed or adjusted, but here’s an idea of what’s going on.

what programs/tools do you use to do digital designs and animations?

Hullo dear anon, I apologize for the latest of late replies please do forgive me!I’d be happy to share what tools I work with. :)

For my digital artwork I mostly use my IPad Pro and Apple Pencil using an app called Procreate (It’s a fantastic drawing app. 10 out of 10 would recommend). I also use and app called DoInk for animating. I’m not a pro at it, but it’s a pretty basic animating app to use once you get the hang of it.

I also use an Wacom Bamboo tablet (pic below) when I use Adobe Photoshop which is on my laptop. (I flip between the two, procreate and photoshop, I prefer animating on my computer and doing illustration on my ipad cuz gives me more freedom to move to a more comfortable position instead of being stuck at my desk..)

Lastly a program I’m a little more comfortable using to animate as well and use to make animatic/storyboards is a free program called FireAlpaca. It’s a really nice software, easy to use, plus its free so that’s always great. :D

Did you apply in or out of state? I'm wondering because I'm an out of state kid that got wait listed, and I'm trying to scope out my chances of getting in. (BTW I loved your animation portion. Keep pushing towards being an animator!!)

I’m not sure if that means higher or lower chances, but I think you have a high chance already from being on the wait list. Best of luck to you, your artwork is really rad~!!

aw, didn’t get into csssa :/

i mean, yeah I’m disappointed. i got pretty behind in my classes to focus working on my portfolio, and since im a senior there’s no applying next time for me either.. so... ya know.. kinda sucks.

but hey, what’s life without rejection? this is just one of many i’ll inevitably be facing in the future, so i better get in the habit of picking myself up and keep on skatin’.

now, back to work..

CSSSA 2017 Application

I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.. I had been so focused on finishing this application in time, and after being sick and out of it for a week I had to kick into overdrive to get it done. But I’m proud of how it turned out.. I did my best and gave it a go. You never know if you don’t try, right?

Assignment A: One drawing or painting that suggests a story without speech bubbles. 

This was a piece I finished some time ago and actually submitted to Scholastic Arts & Writing: Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and it won Gold Key which was super cool. :) 

Assignment B: One drawing or painting of any subject that interests you.

An oil on canvas piece that I actually just finished today! I’ve been on my schools varsity tennis team for all 4 years, and played singles for 3 seasons. Tennis is my favorite sport, and has taught me a lot. I’ve created many unforgettable memories and friendships on the team, and learned a whole lot about teamwork and sportsmanship. Tennis is grand, if you’re able to- give it a try! (This was also my first time painting with oil paint ^-^”)

Assignment C: One drawing or painting that you feel demonstrates your technical skills.

Pretty self explanatory. :)

Assignment D: Upload a video of an animation you have created that demonstrates your understanding of motion.

I may upload it to my youtube soon.. but here it is on tumblr.
