finally figured out my raph design!! quite happy w how he turned out, he’s just a spiky boy :]

DESIGN NOTES UNDER THE CUT

his scales and coloring look pretty simple, but it was difficult to find a green pallete that i liked. i wanted to keep in his primary color, but add a bit of ✨flair✨ to him

originally i was going to leave him with a blind eye, but figured that after all the krang shit and the infection he’d probably get, i figure it’d be safer for the boys to just remove the eye altogether lol

his head shape probably changed the most, and for good reason. i wanted to capture his snapper traits w the spikes, and i figure he’d look cool w a “mohawk” of spikes down his head (he did, so i kept it)

the mask was a pretty easy solution to the spikes, just followed his turtle tot ref for that. also yes i kept the bow in his mask, it fits him quite well :]

all in all a success!!

”You can’t have him.” I like how that could be interpreted as a double meaning. “You can’t have him” being about Donnie, Mikey, and Raph refusing to let Kraang use him as his punching bag, or Kraang refusing to let the turtles escape with the one that destroyed his chances to rebuild his race. It’s awesome lol

Originally the canvas was smaller with just the brothers bc I had the title idea awhile ago, but then I thought it’d be neat to add bastard kraang man in there too bc it works both ways.

This is also why the lighting was SUPER dramatic. Donnie, Mikey, and Raph are mostly lit up by the portal’s light with very little shadows, and the kraang is mostly in shadow with only a rim lighting. Finally, there’s Leo in the middle that’s half and half. Intense highlights alongside dark shadows.

I also liked Leo having the one hand reaching out for his brothers while the other dangles back as well that could also look like reaching. Symbolism for Leo’s own internal struggle of wanting to reunite with his family while also dealing with the massive guilt of causing this in the first place.

Stuck between the light and the dark. Torn between safety and retribution.

I enjoy putting a lot of symbolism in big pieces like this, so thanks for noticing and sending an ask so I could gush about it hehe!

I just caught up on your leosagi au and OMG!!! It was one of the best things I've seen, I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A USAGI CENTRIC STORY!!! I love it!! Keep it up!!!

You understand my Usagi brain rot, I love him very very much.

I’ve spent the past few weeks word vomiting onto a doc that will eventually turn into a proper story. Like I’ve said numerous times I don’t wanna spoil too much, but some more fun info for you is that I plan on having it be split into parts. It’ll probably be. Somewhat? Of a slow burn? I say that bc I’m notoriously bad at that since I’m such a sucker for romance. But ANYWAYS—

The first part focuses heavily on Usagi being dropped into the Rise verse at the end of Season 1 and him getting to know Leo and the brothers throughout Season 2.

The halfway point is where the focus shifts between Leo and Usagi respectively during the Kraang invasion.

And then there’s the aftermath of the invasion which focuses a lot more on Leo and his recovery before {REDACTED} {REDACTED} {REDACTED} :)

Hehehe, again thank you so much, it gives me great joy to share my silly lil au and have ppl enjoy it. I’m excited to eventually share it with y’all!

3. There is not a lot of Leosagi or Rise stuff in general here! There’s some mild things in the doc abt them, but most of this is about Yuichi/Miyamoto Usagi bc I love him, yet also love to traumatize him. Sorry king <3. AAAAND it’s a set up to something I have planned in the future that WILL be very leosagi/rise heavy.

It’s been rlly rlly nice actually to share my art and see all the responses.

I have always adored the Rise fandom bc we have kept our love for this show alive through thick and thin, but the support from so many ppl when I was sooo anxious to post my art has made that adoration be tripled. It’s given me a lot of drive to keep drawing and more confidence abt sharing too!

Another Leosagi thing that has been sitting in my folders too long.

I have drawn and shipped Leo with multiple “types” of Usagi’s, Yuichi Usagi, Miyamoto Usagi, and then this bastard who is kinda? my own thing ? It’s technically Yuichi Usagi but with multiple of my own story things involved that I’ve been rattling around my brain for WAY too long. I have another doodle sheet somewhere that goes over the entire thing, but in essence it’s:

Yuichi Usagi’s pipeline into trying to “become” Miyamoto Usagi bc of *trauma* (Jei, it’s Jei). He hides behind this blank mask while trying to emulate the more serious nature of his ancestor, but forgets Miyamoto Usagi’s own love for life in the process. And ofc Leo, as he does, takes one look at Usagi and vows to figure out his “deal”. Meanwhile, Usagi is fighting for his life trying to contain himself because this kappa continues to lower his walls.

EDIT: The doodle sheet I mentioned that goes over my version of Usagi is down below. It’s extremely SRTUC heavy, so if that’s not your cup of tea you don’t gotta check it out.
