Frame made of ebonized wood with four balustraded, partially folded legs with a connecting frame consisting of balusters and circular segments. Used to be two different paintings,  joined in 1996. by Jan Steen,  Leiden 1625/26 – 1679 “The wedding night of Tobias and Sarah” Canvas 81 x 123 cm This Wedding Night of Tobias and Sarah’ by Jan Steen as it is in the museum now. Was partly owned by Bredius. He was the owner of the right half; the left half was in the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. In 1996 the restorers of the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague cleaned the paintings, restored them and put them together again.  The plan to unify the two paintings is carried out 1996 already but I din't knew this storry till now.
