Sounds of Violin Notes

There was a bird outside- chirping, chirping- the sound coming in through the open window. Sherlock lay on his bed, alternating between staring at the ceiling and closing his eyes, seeking thoughts or a respite from them. He groaned, but felt unable to get up- since when did his body feel so heavy, so tired? There was a stain of the ceiling, an old water leak from the attic- no longer a problem. H20, hydrogen and oxygen. 1.008, 15.998. Simple, simple. Facts. Stupid little boy, stupid little Sherlock. Sherlock heard Mycroft’s voice ring through his head for the thousandth time. Shut up! He brushed it aside. That damn bird was still chirping, but he couldn’t move to close the window. What was the point? Idiot. Idiot. Idiot. Stupid baby brother… so silly… never thinks… gullible. 100, 93, 86. Sherlock was drawn from his thoughts by another sound. Not chirping, not wind, not the record player- phone. Sherlock twisted over to look at his phone on the bedside table. Unknown Number. He turned away and let the phone finish ringing, wrong number- who would call him? Closing his eyes, he resumed his counting- 79, 72- ding! The caller had left a message. Sherlock turned back over and got the phone, lifting it to his ear. One new message.

Yes, I'm fond of puzzles. I prefer to be the one who makes the puzzle, although solving puzzles is fairly enjoyable too.
