met Ren (still dunno how to write his name in hanzi) last week!! he keeps following me everywhere

he doesn’t talk to me much but when he does he talks like my english teacher when he writes . otherwise he only says a few words, and never fully says my name (i think he forgot it and is too shy to ask…)

hey just as a heads up for iwwo fans, coming from the creator Jae here (still the only dev, just saying this in case)

the game isn’t out, and won’t be for at minimum a year or several, but spoilers will come out early, and i NEED to make a spoiler post just to clear some things up, especially for actual nurses who may see my characters!!

what i will NOT accept, even after the game is out, is spoiler posts or anything of the like without warning. i’ve had too many amazing games (not to say mine is, this is my first game) spoiled because of people spreading spoilers with no warnings.

with that said, here’s the spoiler for the game, in case you were worried about some things. (such as Kyu having a ‘fanservice design’, ren possibly being an albino stereotype, etc)

ABSURDLY OBVIOUS SPOILER WARNING.

IWWO, as well as the character designs you will see, isn’t real!! the hospital collapsed before the game starts, while they are in a hospital, they were given high dosages of their medicines in hopes they would be rescued in time.

addressing some possible controversies, issues, etc.

“Isn’t Nurse Kyu’s design inaccurate for a nurse in that time?”

yep, that’s intentional! her design as well as Margaret’s, are based on WW1 nurses, and the two aren’t real, Achlis’ brain made the two up.

“Ren is a stereotype for albino people”

yeah, actually. only in Achlis’ brain, because Ren has always seemed so kind and angelic to him, so his brain makes him look more like that. Ren being angelic actually came BEFORE he was officially made albino, since i made his eyes purple offhandedly and my friend suggested him being albino, but he originally had green eyes. his angelicness is connected to Achlis’ view of him and his personality, not his albinism.

“Nurse Kyu is cheating on her husband with Nurse Margaret”

yes and no, they’re not real and neither is their families, but she is kinda cheating on her fake husband, which i don’t condone obviously, but with the circumstances of her husband using her essentially as a human incubator, i feel it’s justified.

“Min-min and Tin-tin are a bad stereotype of conjoined twins”

actually no, but this is only explained in game. they’re in the hospital because of an attempted at home separation. they’re not body horror, which is the stereotype of conjoined twins. conjoined twins aren’t body horror, but what happened to these two was.

“the artstyle is a caricature of asian people!!/the cast is only asians despite it taking place in probably canada!!”

canonically, the game as well as this blog, are all told from the pov of achlis, but drawn by Ren. let me reiterate; the game and blog are in canon drawn by a chinese boy, who grew up in china, surrounded by mostly chinese people, and his best friend is also japanese, and also grew up in japan. he is going to draw with chinese techniques (which i try to study to show his connection to art from his culture) and draw in a way that is familiar to him. also i check in with actual minorities im not part of constantly.

it’s a hospital. i’m disabled. also it’s a HOSPITAL.

Tempest!! a very shy girl with narcolepsy who’s actual reason for being in the ICU is unknown.

Fia!! a girl with pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, as her family works as volcano cleaners and scientists!

Nino!! a prodigy detective who solved his best friends murder as a kid!! he keeps her with him everywhere he goes in the form of an AI on a screen!

Lin!! A sickly teen who just wants to be friends with everyone, minus Achlis, but especially Ren. they’re… strange, to say the least.

Artevika!! a powerful female wrestler who sustained some brain damage after a match, with some damage to her foot to boot. (see what i did there?)

Min-Min and Tin-Tin!! conjoined twins who refuse to talk about why they’re in the hospital.

Carole!! a sweet little girl coming in after being paralyzed in a car accident and losing her mom and older brother

Head Nurse; Soteria!! a mature and protective woman who for some reason just HATES Achlis and wants him out of the hospital, thinking he’s a faker.

Nurse Margaret!! another nurse much like Kyu, the two share a close bond.

Ask the IWWO cast!!

IWWO, actually named If We Were Older is a horror visual novel style indie game featuring two boys in an ICU.

IWWO features two best friends, Achlis and Ren, who met several years ago in the same hospital, now with worsening conditions, way-too-busy nurses, yet an overly friendly and perfect nurse and the constant threat of Ren’s own body turning on him, they work together to scavenge their own food and even choose to do tasks for other patients.

When the nurses start looking a little… off… it’s up to Achlis and his best friend to figure out what’s going on, before the nurses start going after them, too.

A lineup will come out soon!! i promise lol, in the meantime here’s everyone you can ask!

Achlis, our protagonist, a chaotic boy who is deeply ruled by emotions, but will push others to their limits just to test reactions. he seems oddly wary of hospitals and is a big fan of the 90s.

Ren, our deuteragonist, a normally reserved boy with a strong attachment to his best friend and a weird aversion towards women. Most people who meet him tend to remark him as sweet as honey, a kind soul who would rather be helping people than stuck in bed all day.

Nurse Kyu, the ‘perfect’ woman and nurse, and the boys’ primary caretaker. A nuclear family, perfect kids, a perfect demeanour, devoted to her husband, what more could one want?

Yvette, the girl next door type, except she absolutely hates most men, especially Achlis. Hime gyaru ftw!!

Noemi, the ‘classic spoiled bratty girl’. though while her and Achlis hate each other, people can’t help but compare them constantly. maybe they’re more alike than they think, and more familiar with each other than people know.
