it seems the harbingers in genshin are based on characters from a form of Italian theatre known as commedia dell’arté.

Pantalone - an old, wealthy, and esteemed merchant with business skills. Greedy. Apparently his wife was named “La Signora”. A decadent wealthy merchant.

Il Dottore - Dressed in a traditional medieval-style doctor suit, “overly self-loving and greedy”. A decadent erudite (scholar).

Arlecchino (Harlequin) - “a faithful valet or servant”. Impoverished, described as someone that provides comedic relief like a clown. Apparently his love interest is Columbina. Acting to thwart his master’s plans. Trickster. Cunning.

Pulcinella - appearance resembles a “cockerel”. His big nose, squeaky voice, and clownish ways made him seem like a “charlatan” (a fake- a person who claims to know special knowledge but that is, in fact, false.) A cunning thief and scammer.

Colombina - a mischievous maid. A best friend (and sometimes lover) to Arlecchino. The wife of Pierrot. Name can translate to “Little Dove”. Her character might be a little vain- not wanting her beauty to be covered. An efficient and carefree servant, intelligent, and flirtatious.

Il Capitano - “a vainglorious, deceitful, and braggart soldier”. A pretentious but cowardly military man. He appropriated the name “The Captain”. Only able to maintain his claims because no one knew of him anyway.

Pierrot - a downhearted man whose heart is broken by one he loved- Colombina. A simpleminded and honest servant— young and personable valet. Sometimes portrayed as a clown. Symbolism of tragedy, suffering, and defeat. Suffering to the barbaric world.

La Signora - tough, beautiful, and calculating. A courtesan. Typically managing to wrangle her way into an old man’s household and making him a cuckold.

Scaramouche - personality is similar to the Captain’s although a bit more mellow. Still arrogant.

Sandrone - A peasant who is crude, clever, and cunning. Spokesman of ill-treated people.

Tartaglia - Dainty character. Far-sighted. Name means a “stutterer” or a “stammerer”. For the sake of humor, he finds himself stuck on the most obscene syllable of a word. Usually represents the lower working class but can also represent the middle or higher working class.

I basically just copied this from a bunch of different sites and wikipedia. None of this knowledge is mine. I only know it because I’m a theatre kid.
