This ^^^ but also Sakura going so far as to do Kakashi's, 'Sorry, did you say something?' bit that he did with Gai with people randomly trying to strike up a conversation with her while reading/minding her own beeswax (if they're not overly noteworthy, sometimes this bit is legit because she's just not listening, but if it's someone she knows she's probably just messing with them)

Sakura's outfit being a little more of a homage to the important people in her life training her, i.e., Tsunade-inspired hair, possibly a necklace; Kakashi-inspired white fur trim on her blouse over a black anbu-esque jumpsuit (do you see the vision), etc., etc.

Sakura forcing her forehead (LOL) between the nonexistent gap of Kakashi's forearm and his side to see the mission scrolls he's holding/information he's reading and Kakashi just. Let's her.

Already said this in a previous post, but Sakura's diamond shaped sealing mark being more reminiscent of the Hatake Clan crest just because I think it's cool

Ignore my dribble if you'd like. I unfortunately remembered this show exists and while I deeply despise it, I love the characters and resent the cards they were inevitably dealt. Anyweasal, opinions ahead!

There shouldn't have been any romance between any of the paladins

Allura and Lotor should have ended up together and been so much better written then they were, oh my goodness. Peak enemies-to-lovers where please??

SPEAKING OF, Lotor shouldn't have been an endgame villain?? OBVIOUSLY??!! Almost the entire second act of his story arc is not what we want, PUH-LEASE. Keep the mommy-daddy issues and angst and Honerva being the final villain, but do NOT bring in all of that later mischaracterization and utter nonsense they get him AND her to do, Ugh

Speaking of story arcs :D Can a character that isn't Keith get a seat at the writers table, I just wanna know. He was so obviously the writers' favourite and they STILL fumbled his story?? HELLO???

All of the paladins + Allura and Coran deserved to have seperate story arcs that led to the Found Family found familying it all over the place together. Why were they not closer after however long in space? Why were the writers so concerned with them not being close???? (yes this is mainly about Keith and Shiro in correlation to the rest of The Group, how did you know, BUTT all of them were bad honestly)

Seperate arcs!! PLEASE!!! Pidge kind of gets one with her dad and brother finding adventures, yeah, but they kinda sideline her otherwise and she doesn't seem to grow as a character beyond that after finding them? After that she is just there and yet her relationships with the rest of The Group aren't shown to be closer/familial, growing,,, and whatever)

The same can be said of Everyone Else honestly. We see them interacting in funny ways during the occasional filler episode (Them being Lance, Hunk and Pidge exclusively 99% of the time, ughh), BUTT aside from that, the relationships between the paladins are rarely depicted as being beyond surface level. One could argue that this is because of the format of the show (episode starts, problem is found to be fixed, The Gang blasts off to acquire the solution and have a couple of lines of quirky dialogue before fighting Galra and saving the day, and that is usually the format of EVERY episode, meaning nothing deeper carries over), but that still doesn't excuse it, ahdhdh. Moving on tho:

Shiro's reputation should have been gushed over more by Lance, Hunk and Pidge (for different reasons: idolizing, curiosity and information regarding Kerberos/Katie's father and brother) so as to deepen their relationships and give insight later on into hinting at/outright speaking of Shiro and Keith's adoptive brothers relationship. He should definitely have commanded more respect from the kids all around and been more of an influential figure to the paladins (and even Allura and Coran!) because he's just that good of a pilot AND a person and they're all kinda enamoured with his flying adventures/secrets of the trade, so to speak. (This should have been especially present between Shiro and Lance, because, y'know, LANCE IS THE MAIN CHARACTER!?! Which the writers forgot, but anyways :DDD) And all of this of course leads up toooo,,,,!

Shiro being dead! :D YES, I SAID IT!!! I KNOW that we all love Shiro, but him being dead would honestly have been so much better for the story, ADHDHD! I used to hate this idea, but nowadays it just makes more sense. Give everyone a couple of seasons with him, have the whole 'Kuro' plotline still, but do it a lot earlier and have it hold more impact! Maybe 'Kuro's' body that we've been witnessing (that Shiro's psyche IS connected to) has to be 'killed'/destroyed by the paladins, and they think that that's the last of it, UNTILLL... It's revealed that Shiro's dead body is being kept by Haggar due to her needing his psyche (which she's maintaining with quintessance) because that's what allows her to control the clone bodies she's made of him and create an army of 'Kuro's' (is this making sense, umm). But yeah, that ends up coming back so as to not just be a 'Oh, that was never Shiro!' plotline. Continuing on~~~

I'm not gonna get TOO into how I'd rewrite each of the paladins + Altean's arcs and their relationships with each other because this is supposed to be simpler than that AND I have another draft idea saved specifically for that because if I ever finish writing it, it will be massive, LOL. In short (let's speedrun~)...

I need Keith to have relationships with the other paladins, AND with Coran and Allura. The writers want him to be everywhere but with the team, especially in the later seasons, and the only emotion they seem to want The Group to feel about him is angry he left/annoyed with his choices, etc. They wanted him to be cool and in trying to make that his only character trait completely cut him off from the rest of The Group that he is supposed to care about and be cared about by. WILD. His Dad and estranged Mum should have been brought up. His Mum not being there growing up and his Dad's unfortunate death should have been brought up. Him canonically being in foster care and fostered by Shiro should have been brought up! The emotional weight behind all of that?? Astounding! It genuinely vexes me that they did nothing with any of those plotlines. The moments he could have had with the paladins and Allura and Coran finding out about that stuff could have had so much depth and relationship growth if they'd chosen to explore literally any of it. But nooo, let's just say he's part alien and still refuse to even show the audience how everyone reacted! That's exactly what the audience wants, grrrr. (Not gonna get into the half-galran thing her either ~ I woulda done that differently in canon, so again it can wait for another post <3)

Lance actually being the Main Character that he was set up to be, PLEASE! Lance being the Black Paladin by the end of the story! Us hearing about his family and what inspired him to want to be in the space program! Hearing about his insecurities (*gets flashbacks*: the langst fanfics go CRAZY broo) and his friends helping him to grow and work through them! UGH!!! Lance's entire character started and remained the same throughout the show. The crumbs of growth we get between him and other characters is the same as I have mentioned: fleeting and temporary. And it's so unfortunate that the writers only seemed to want him to be this funny flirt with nothing beneath the surface, especially since THAT'S YOUR MAIN CHARACTER?!?! DO BETTER!!!

Hunk is a happy, anxious fellow who likes to cook and that's it. (WHERE'S THE LAMB SAAAUCE?!?!) I understand that he's a side-main character, but that in itself is a bad thing! He's a MAIN CHARACTER! Treat him as such! Give him more depth; the man loves to cook, excellent! Why is that? Is cooking important to his family? Does his passion come from tradition? Is his kindness commonplace in his home or is he trying to make up for something someone in his family lacks? How does he feel about being the therapist friend? (Let's face it, he totally is

Katie Holt, Pidge Gunderson,, where do I start with my favourite midget girl? Aside from what I've already said, I need her to be validated for being such a high academic achiever. I need her to experience burnout. I need her to struggle to decrypt alien technology and have a crisis more than once. Can she not behave as the little sister of the group? Can she not have all of that contained love for her father and brother and point it accidentally at Shiro and The BoysTM? Can she not do something she only used to do with her dad and Matt and feel viscerally bad and ill about it because she feels like she's replacing them?? HELLO??? The angst writes itself, sighhh. Also let her wear her hair in mini pigtails more often, that style was cute as a button, ahdhd <333

Shiro!!! I want this man to haunt the narrative, LOLL. He comes into the picture and remains this warm, reliable figure at first. But the first 'Kuro' body (the one The Group deals with) retains much of the mortal weakness that the real Shiro had, and so it retains his sickness as well (man is dead and on psychological life support when the story starts anyways, so might as well, HAHA-). Sickest part of all of this is that Shiro doesn't realize he's not inside of his actual body for a long time, but he does realize eventually. Makes it more tragic because I like my stories like that, LOL (I have no idea where the rest of what I wrote for Shiro disappeared to, but it was something along the lines of: 'angst when Shiro realizes he's not in his body and is actually dead; angst when Shiro tries to warn everyone that he isn't himself; angst when Shiro's 'Kuro' body gets killed to protect everyone, and angst when Shiro says goodbye to Keith and everyone in the swanky mind palace place (the one that he talks to Kieth at in canon) where he reveals that he died approx. however long ago and says his final goodbyes to them).

Allura deserves to start off as this snooty princess with high expectations for the paladins. She's scared that the Galra will destroy everything for everyone else too for crying out loud! She's allowed to be a bit demanding. But she does NOT remain or become a permanent Katara character, PLEASE!!! I love Katara, don't get me wrong, but having a character continuously AT EVERY INCOVENIANCE proclaim and complain about the same angst we've heard them monologue about 20 times already gets sooo Exhausting. Like yes, you have trauma, and that deserves to be addressed, but move the story forward and do something about it instead of telling us the same sob story for the 21st time in stagnation. She's not just 'console girl' either. She does end up as a Paladin (as does Lotor because he deserves to be the purple paladin, pink and purple soloing, WHOO!), and she gets to be shown as more of a leader over the coalition/rebellion because she's a princess! A Queen, if you will! Anyways ~ (how many times have I said that, eeee). She also gets to be a child with the other Paladins because she deserves that too! The 'monarch child forced to grow up too soon who learns how to have fun' trope be hittinggg

Coran deserved to have more relevance to Allura's character and the Paladins by proxy. We should have seen a flashback of some sort when they were younger with Coran looking after Allura/advising Alfor and his wife, etc. Make him seem more like his own character with personal connections rather than just an extension of Allura/a convenient way to help Allura get things done. He's hilarious, don't get me wrong, but he could have been more! (words for this whole show, LOL) He deserved to be an odd father figure to Allura; proud of her in victory, encouraging her in confusion, strength in her losses, etc. He deserved to be treated like someone the paladins would grieve if anything happened to him instead of just the missing loud voice when he wasn't in the room. Reliable unreliable man I love youuu <3

IN CONCLUSION: many thoughts, so many thoughts. I think that'll do for now :P Let me know what you think/if you agree or disagree, whatevers~ Here's to fanfictions that are better written than what we got *fireworks explode*.

Had a nice familial Kakashi-Sakura thought the other day and it kind of spiraled from there, but WHAT IF instead of Sakura's seal being just a diamond, it was shaped like the Hatake clan symbol?

IMAGINE HOW CUTE THAT WOULD BE, AHDHD

Sakura busts out her awesomeness during the war and suddenly she's covered in pretty glowy lines, then BAM! Hatake symbol on her forehead! WHOO

Could lead to a super cute father-daughter moment where they acknowledge their bond and Kakashi gets to acknowledge how proud he is of her. Possibly a post-war hug too because they deserve it <3

Could also lend to the 'Tobirama is A Senju/Hatake'/'Senju brothers' mother was a Hatake' theory some people like (plus could give you some funny Aunt Tsunade-estranged Nephew Kakashi-ish, LOL)

WARNING: LONG POST!

A bunch of thoughts about the Konoha 13 girls (a.k.a. a collection of could-have-been's and what-if's).

PART 1: Sakura <3

First of all, giving Sakura the most basic, NPC backstory (daughter of a civilian family with lacking personality) is decidedly NOT it when you compare her to her teammates'. I've been thinking a lot about her today and have decided if I were to write her that I would incorporate Kishimoto's obsession with having love be the focal point of her character in a different way: an arranged marriage. (This does tie into SasuSaku and them being well-written and reworked too, but that's not yet the point). Say her parents are affluent tradesmen who happen to deal with the Feudal Lord of Fire (was that his title?). Say that Feudal Lord had a son. Say he and Sakura's parents came to an agreement that in return for their continued good services and an extension of their trade, his son would marry Sakura on her 18th birthday. Interesting, right?

So Sakura has been promised to this Feudal Lord's son since she was a little girl a la her parents' decision. They've well and truly planned out her life as a doting wife and loving mother in exchange for further trade, bigger business, etcetera. They don't see anything wrong with this decision; in their eyes, Sakura would be well looked after and set up in a good position throughout her entire life. Win-win and all that. All they want Sakura to be is a sweet, pink-haired little thing who does as she's told. Not hard. Simple, right?

Absolutely not. Sakura resents everything that her parents want her to be. Any way she can rebel, she does. Get her clothes dirty? Excellent! Develop an attitude for arguing? You got it! She delights in going against the 1000 rules her life has been built around in any which way, including enrolling herself into the Ninja Academy. Her parents are FURIOUS when they find out. But Sakura is smart, smarter than people think when they gaze at her innocent little face, all green eyes and timid smiles. She knows that she won't get to live her life like everyone else, so she'll be darned if she lets anyone stop her from enjoying the years she has left under her parents' roof. She wins out against them in the end and stays in the academy, flaunting what a good opportunity it is to further her education. What grows is her attitude, strength and self-preservation. Oh, and her knack for hitting things hard, though that is more after hours. Her future friendship with Rock Lee makes a LOT of sense.

In short, Sakura is a master manipulator. The world makes it clear how it sees her, so she utilizes it. No one expects a knockout punch from such a princess, and no one suspects fake tears when she bats her eyes. What harm could she do? Petite little thing. (They haven't heard of sleeper builds somehow).

She wears a hood to hide her hair, but during the Waves Arc (or whatever it's called), the hood comes off and she has a Nagisa moment (Assassination Classroom) where she waltzes innocently towards an idiot merc for hire who's approached Tazuna, and she gives him a good jumping knee to the nose, knocking him flat. Zabuza has his fun shortly after, but that's the start of Team 7 getting to see the real 'her', thought Kakashi is the only one who actually sees it. No blubbering over Sasuke, though she does worry. She's not heartless, but she's not dancing around him like he's the best thing since sliced bread. She barely knows him, and they're children; that would be dumb.

Fast forward Chunin Exams Arc - Kakashi actually does his job and teaches all three of them. We end up in the Forest of Death where Sakura gets to have her feral moment. She still ends up getting beaten on until Sasuke wakes up via Orochimaru neck drugs, but she holds her own a lot better. Still cuts her hair and gets to be a tad bit more feral perhaps when she's biting that psycho chick, but ANYWAYS. They get out of the Forest of Death, and her parents are MORTIFIED by her haircut, which pleases and angers her. She's delighted they're unhappy with it (especially because she prefers it short and hasn't been permitted to cut it from them before), but also very rightfully rageful that the only reason they care is because they view her more as a useful object than their daughter with her own life, and she's most useful if she embodies the role they've chosen for her as the silent beauty who does as she's told.

At some point after the Chunin Exams once Team 7 has had more bonding time (Sasuke doesn't leave with Orochimaru in this AU, but he does get briefly kidnapped and brought back), Sakura tells them what her parents plan for her is. None of them are particularly pleased about the arrangement, which she finds comforting. They continue to grow closer, etcetera etcetera, Team 7 actually becoming a found family because it's what they deserve... Kakashi being the older brother/reluctant father figure and Naruto being the ridiculous, hilarious younger brother figure, AND THEN..!

SasuSaku crumbs, ehe ;D They're 16 and Sakura has less than 2 years until she's to be married. Team 7 are all about getting into each other's personal space and irritating each other (it's how they show affection <3), so physical closeness has never been an issue. Sasuke is stingy about it, but the other two ignore him even when he complains, so <3 Anyway, one day Sakura's parents mention something about one of their trade routes or something and remind Sakura how little time is left before she's married (probably in the form of a 'you need to be more lady like' lecture), and Sakura acts out about it by being particularly aggressive while they're fighting some ninja on a mission. This leads to a random discussion about her hair (one of her most prized possessions in her parents' opinion) with her asking Sasuke if he likes it. He's weirded out and confused and asks her to explain, so she tells him she hates it as long as it is (it's grown out again since FoD). She asks him how long he likes it, and he raises an eyebrow at her. Just when she thinks he won't respond, he places his sword (they've just finished fighting) a little above her shoulder where her hair used to end, and simply says, 'There.'

She's surprised and then smiles. 'You can cut it if you want to.'

His brows rise and then furrow. 'What about your parents?'

She grins. 'I'm not the one cutting it. Besides, are they gonna punish you for a simple workplace accident?~'

He gets her meaning: things happen all the time on the battlefield. If his sword happened to slash her way and cut her hair, what would they do? Say it was deliberate? They were far too spineless to accuse the last Uchiha of all people of something so stupid. He nodded, moving the sword closer. A single lock falls, and Sakura closes her eyes, smiling, waiting. Sasuke steadies his hand, and then...

'GUUUYS! HURRY UP! THIS WAY!'

They both sigh. Sakura looks disappointed. Sasuke - surprisingly - does too. He huffs, 'That idiot...'

Sakura shakes her head, looking over her shoulder. 'Guess we better regroup, hm? Come on' - she pushes Sasuke's shoulder - 'I'll race you.' She's off with a smirk before he can sheath his sword. When he does, he tails behind her, wondering about the weird feelings stirring in his chest. It's nothing, surely....

Fast forward to them not quite acting like they were before. Something is different yet they're not sure what it is. They're not addressing it, and it's not big enough for anyone else to notice, surely (aha, poor Kakashi picks up on it quick enough). Que long pining looks, weird jealous emotions (oh no the horror) and lots more moments in between until another fight on another battlefield leads to Sasuke ACTUALLY cutting Sakura's hair in her defense (taking out the enemy, yaaaay~). Kakashi and Naruto are finishing off their end of the fight elsewhere, so they get to have a moment where they recollect after everything. Sakura is shocked, holding tufts of her hair that only fall to her lower neck. It's strange having it so short after years, but it's so freeing. Sasuke looks at her - genuinely looks at her - and she's giving him this look, and there's something there, 100%, but he isn't about to say anything incriminating, hopefully. When she remains quiet, he musters the courage and says, 'Sorry, I... I know you liked how long it was.'

It's a poor attempt at a joke, but she huffs lightly anyway, and then her smile grows and she's suddenly a whole lot closer than she was before. Standing on her tiptoes, her lips meet his cheek, and his eyes widen as he tenses beneath her. Slowly she retreats, head moving to the side of his face where he can feel her breath as she speaks into his ear: 'Thank you,' she whispers sincerely, drawing back to face him without letting him go. Her arms are around his neck. There's definitely something here. He smiles, small and soft, and seeing how her face mirrors his in that moment is enough.

Obviously some political intrigue (do not know if that's the right phrase, but aight) and tension too, duh, since she's supposed to be marrying this other guy, but oh wait, 'is she in love with her teammate?' To, 'Yeah, she's definitely in love with him, oh no,' and whatever else. Forbidden love? Forbidden love.

All's far in love and war though, and they do get their happy ending, and Sakura does get her friendships with TenTen, Hinata and Ino, OBVIOUSLY, and even though Ino is jealous that Sakura is on Sasuke's team when they're genin (stupid twelvies, honestly), that doesn't ruin their friendship when they're young, Ino's presumptions that Sakura was happy with her predicament did. But then they solve that, DEFINITELY, and the girls get to be girls together in all their different ways, slayyy~ <3

Something something the portrayal of trauma in Naruto is fascinating because of how much of the cast is explicitly or implied to be traumatized. This means that protagonists, antagonists, and everything in between are case studies in trauma response.

Something something traumatized characters lashing out in destructive or even violent ways isn’t necessarily framed as a bad thing. Instead, that violence is framed as a morally nuanced choice. The use of violence is a tool that can bring someone a sense of peace (Shikamaru “killing” Hidan) and prevent more people from getting hurt (Zabuza killing Gato, Sasuke killing Orochimaru), but it can also catch people who aren’t to blame in the crossfire (Sasuke killing the samurai and abandoning Taka) and perpetuate cycles of violence (the entire Pain arc).

Something something through Naruto, characters who lash out, even when they’re framed as being in the wrong, are also treated as being not only deeply sympathetic, but understandable. It’s not uncommon for a character to be given a flashback scene that’s meant to elicit the response “Of course they ended up Like That!” (Gaara, Neji, Itachi, etc.)

Something something the only trauma response that is consistently framed as the wrong way to cope is self-destruction and stagnation. This covers everything from Sasuke’s progressively self-sabotaging behavior to Chiyo’s self-isolation to Tsunade becoming an aimless addict to Shikamaru attempting to burry his emotions to Kabuto’s self-mutilation in an attempt to be more like his abuser.
