Ian rubs at his bad leg. It still hurts sometimes when it storms. An old wives tale with truth inside it. 

Mickey shifts his jaw. “Hurtin’?” 

Ian sighs. “It’ll be okay.” But it aches.

“It’s been three years. “Maybe we should see a doctor or—” 

“Mick, It’s just a bone,” Ian sighs, letting go, sliding an arm around Mickey instead. 

“Yeah, well, I love your bone.”

Ian grins. “Is that a dick joke?” 

Mickey laughs. “Naw. I just mean I love all of it. Skin. Bones. Whatever.” 

Ian brushes a thumb against Mickey’s lip. “I love all of you, too.”

As I've said before, one of the main reasons I lament the potential Mickey/Yev storyline is because I strongly believe it fits into one of the major themes of the show. Will the children of abuse live up to the sins of their parents or will they make different choices? Is a question I think Shameless tackles beautifully. We see it with Fiona trying to be a better parent to her siblings than Frank and Monica. We see it with Lip trying not to be like Frank and work on his alcoholism. With Ian and the parallels with Monica and their bipolar. Debbie struggling through her abandonment issues not only seeing how she handles being a parent compared to her own but it's also a great foil to Fiona who was Debbie's main parental figure.

And as much as we see the Gallagher children succeed we also see them fail. Fiona is not a perfect guardian and has her own issues with drugs and alcohol. Lip has many ups and downs with his sober journey. Ian ended up in prison because of his bipolar.

I don't imagine Mickey's step into fatherhood would be easy. It's something I think he would have to deal with for the rest of the show. Much like it took forever and a half for him to admit his feelings for Ian I don't think he would openly talk about his feelings towards Yevgeny. Probably because he doesn't understand them or is afraid.

Mickey and Svetlana would probably make bad decisions and would probably get CPS called on them. Unlike their fathers who's love for their children is conditional Mickey and Svetlana will fight for their son. I think that would have been great storyline to explore. You get to see Mickey and Svet fight with their trademark banter and grow as friends and parents. You get to see Mickey make different choices then Terry in actively fighting for his son not against.

I also think the dropped storyline is why some audience members struggle with Mickey's character when he finally returns in season 10. Because whatever growth he was having was halted and with the absence of Svetlana and Yevgeny there wasn't much to explore anymore.

The way Svetlana hands Mickey Yevgeny with the poopy diaper and the way Mickey reacts implies that Mickey has changed his diaper before. There’s so much that we as viewers didnt get to see in the Milkovich house between seasons 4 and 5 and one thing is Mickey knows how to change his son’s diaper.

Star Signs in Shameless

Okay, as someone who loves star signs I just really want to talk about the Shameless characters and their star signs. Obviously I know that the writers probably didn't assign their birthdays based on their personalities, but whatever. All their birthdays are pretty inconsistent so I just used the Shameless US wiki.

Fiona Gallagher - February 23rd - Pisces

She's definitely got the deep emotional connections that Pisces tend to have, since she puts so much effort into taking care of her siblings. She's also sensitive, and I'm not talking about her getting upset over the course of taking care of them because I think that's a universal reaction. I'm talking about her and V in the later seasons. Fiona's pretty sensitive to V spending less and less time with her and more time with Svetlana. (not saying that's a bad thing, but it shows she feels things deeply). Pisces also get along with people in small groups, which is clear in Fiona as she often keeps a very small group of friends. We only ever see her extend out to one or two people beyond V. Pisces give good advice and have a strong moral compass. Fiona's a bit more ambiguous with this, and I think she relies more on her emotions than a black and white right or wrong. This is clear from her and Mandy. She knows it's the right thing to do to let her stay, but she's pretty hostile towards her because of her negative emotions towards her. Also, in relationships Pisces tend to be really passionate, intense and honest. With Jimmy Steve, she's very much all of these things. I'd say Fiona definitely fits the mark for Pisces.

Lip Gallagher - March 29th - Aries

I'm an Aries, and I have a lot in common with Lip. I'd say he's a pretty stereotypical Aries. He's very driven (when he actually sets his mind on school), very stubborn (when he doesn't want to go to school), he's very passionate (when it comes to looking after Karen's baby) and he's definitely got a temper, which is extremely stereotypical of Aries. He's also competitive, impulsive and loyal. Lip's a very blunt person too, not one to sugar coat anything. I think Lip is literally the perfect Aries.

Ian Gallagher - May 9th - Taurus

Taurus are very ambitious and trustworthy. Ian fits this very well, since he's so eager to be in the Army and then to become an EMT. He refuses to let anyone stop him. Before he was diagnosed, he's definitely the most reliable for Fiona out of him and Lip. Lip's more unpredictable. I think that's why his Bipolar disorder destroyed his self image, because Ian was used to being very trustworthy and suddenly he didn't even trust his own brain. They value honesty, which is probably true of Ian, although most of the Gallaghers are very blunt people. They're stereotypically stubborn, and I think Ian is one of the most stubborn Gallaghers. He doesn't want anyone to tell him what to do or how to act. Taurus's reputation is to be very hard-working, which is clear in Ian. So I do think Ian's character lines up with Taurus.

Mickey Milkovich - August 10th - Leo

I mean, Mickey's a clear Leo. He's obviously a fire sign, there's no doubt about it. Despite his issues with self worth, he's clearly able to at least project self-confidence. The man literally walks up to a woman and asks if she wants to fuck without any hint of embarrassment. Leos are often intense, and Mickey's obviously very intense and passionate about Ian. The only thing that I don't think really lines up with Mickey is that Leos are usually very sociable, which Mickey isn't. He likes his people and no one else. Although he does know a lot of people, so maybe it does fit in. They're stereotypically arrogant, which can probably apply to Mickey since I think a lot of people would perceive him as arrogant. They like doing grand gestures and care a lot about the people they love, so it's safe to say Mickey's for sure a Leo.

Debbie Gallagher - November 18th - Scorpio

Scorpios are very independent and aren't afraid of controversy over what they do. This is very clear in Debbie since she has Frannie even though everyone tells her not to and clearly intends to do it alone (even if she does end up asking for help). They're also very intune with their feelings as a water sign, and Debbie's a very emotional person. I think we see her be more emotional than any of the other Gallaghers (not saying that's a bad thing). But this is very clear when we see her looking at Mickey and Lip fighting, and she almost starts crying over missing her family. She's obviously sentimental and can find sentimental things in something as messy as a fight. They're cautious in love at first, though, which Debbie is not. She tends to dive into relationships pretty quickly. Scorpios are intense though, so maybe it makes sense. Scorpio definitely fits her.

Carl Gallagher - January - Capricorn or Aquarius

The Wiki didn't know his actual birthday, so I'll talk about both of these signs. Capricorns are hard working and like strict rules. This applies to Carl being in the Army and the police force. He's also hardworking when he's doing his illegal stuff, although it does show a disrespect for rules. He also doesn't like when authority figures in the police do things he doesn't agree with. They're focused on family and very loyal which applies to Carl for sure. I do think he's more of an Aquarius. Aquariuses have a strong sense of social justice and really want to make the world better. This is why he wants to be a cop in the first place. They're independent and unique, and Carl fits this perfectly in the early seasons. He does his own weird things, doesn't really care about how people view or think about it either. So I think he's more of an Aquarius.

Liam Gallagher - ???

The Wiki didn't know his birthday. But Liam's so focused on school work and working hard in general that I think he's a Capricorn. He's so grounded, he has to be an Earth sign and he's not stubborn enough to be a Taurus. I could also see him being a Virgo, considering how matter-of-fact he is about getting shit done. He also keeps to himself, won't spill secrets on a first meeting. So in my mind he's either a Capricorn or a Virgo. I kind of lean more towards Virgo.

If anyone has any different opinions on this I'd love to hear them, and if anyone wants me to do other characters from Shameless let me know! Also, I know many of their birthdays heavily vary. Debbie specifically has two different birthdays within the show, as she's also mentioned to have been born in December. I did the best with what I had!

Mickey: asshole Russian pimp that sold his own daughter into prostitution. What’s to know?

Kev: Yvon is in town and I have a bad feeling about him.

Mickey: who the fuck is Yvon?

Kev: Lana’s dad…

Mickey: Svetlana’s dad is Yevgeny.

Kev: no, he’s Yevgeny ( points to Yevy)

Mickey: she named the kid after the asshole you fucking idiot.

Kev: oh, so she’s not having sex with her dad? Thank god.

Mickey(with eyebrows): what?

Two of them stare at each other.

Mickey: I’m calling my cousins.

Mickey and his cousins are late because I’m not taking away that iconic moment of Svet dragging the body through the bar.

Gallavich Week Day Six: Rainbow

The Colours of Us

Red is for blood. 

Not the skinned knees of childhood. No... For you it's split lips, bloody noses, broken teeth. Grazed knuckles. 

It's fighting tooth and nail. Against each other. Against the world. Because anything worth having is worth fighting for. Because anything worth feeling is worth fighting against. 

But when you've fought against it too long you begin to realise the truth. 

Orange is for his hair.

They call it red, or ginger. But it's orange. 

Sometimes burnished and bright like fresh bronze. Catching sunlight and stealing breath. Sometimes deep and dark, almost true red, in the window light as a teenager wields a tyre iron. Sometimes bright in the sun, shining in the filtered light through the bleachers.

A constant. A draw for the eye. A realisation that this is what you want. That no matter where you go, or what you do, or who you screw, the orange of his hair will always catch your eye. Just like he caught the rest of you.

No matter what happened back then, no matter what never healed, you'll still want him and only him. 

Yellow is for faded bruises. 

Wounds so deep only the very surface is visible, like an iceberg that pierced the body. And everyone else thinks that when the yellow fades to skin it'll all be gone. 

You know different. You know the bruises are still there. Still ready to hurt when pressed the wrong way.

Green is for his eyes. 

Those eyes that catch the light, like his hair. Luminous. Penetrating. He sees everything even when you don't want him to. He sees the bruises you haven't let heal. He sees the festering wounds that sit in your heart. 

Or he should. He sees those wounds and says it's not rot. He says it's just hurt. He kisses that centre and says it'll get better. That it can be better. 

He says it so you almost believe it. 

Blue is for the sky. 

The skies you've seen together over Chicago in the summertime. Skies that faded to inky black when you whiled away hours lost in each other. Skies that shone down on you while you ran and laughed. While you kissed. 

Skies over Mexico. The skies where he was with you and the skies where he left you. The skies where you were alone but free. 

Dusted with fluffy white clouds, or threatening at the grey skies of winter. 

But in summer, when you were together, it felt like you could face anything. 

Violet. 

Violet is for the future. Because it doesn't remind you of the past. 

There's nothing rich or luxurious about your past. The closest to purple you got was the darkest bruises, and even those were more indigo. 

Now you can have flowers. Lavender and lilac and violets. Now you can have plush cushions and warm blankets. And why not have them in purple?

Purple completes the pride flag that he displays on the dashboard of the ambulance. It completes the rainbow of your life so far. So why shouldn't the future be violet?

After all, you're together. So it can only be better than the past.

And as for ultraviolet? Well... The things that light shows are between you and your husband.

Stargazing

This is my final Magic Treehouse @galladrabbles. Thank you @runninonemptyy for this week's prompt, the song is great for them.

Ian grabs Mickey by the neck and pulls him into a deep passionate kiss to show him how intertwined their souls are. They say you know it when you know and damn it does Ian know. Mickey Milkovich is it for him. 

After the kiss the word starts melting all around. The familiar blue and purple lights start to appear around and engulf his body. He’s transported back to his teenage body in the treehouse and before he could regain his balance from the magical time travel Mickey has put him in a tight embrace, promising to never let go.

Thinking about the scene in 5x01 where Lip and Fiona talk to Mickey.

Lip's laugh when Mickey yells up to Mrs Patel, it's so delighted. And it's such a contrast to him in the rest of the episode.

The running thread for Lip in 5x01 is discomfort when confronted with the difference/contrast between life at University versus life in the Southside and how he doesn't fully fit in either place.

At University he has to apply for an RA job to secure housing and money to live next year. Kuzner, as much as I love him, mocks the RA position, calls it "resident asshole". But this is a necessity for Lip. His other option is to be wholly dependant on Amanda and that places him in a really vulnerable position regardless of his feelings for her.

Then we get this sequence on the train where Lip moves from the richer area around his Uni back to the Southside. The closer he gets to the Southside, the more the people on the train look like Frank, tbh. And Lip grows self-conscious of the watch Amanda gave him.

Then back home, he's not caught up with what's going on. He lies about the watch to the group of guys across the street, saying he stole it instead of admitting he got it from his rich kinda girlfriend. Again, he's clearly embarrassed by the things he's getting to experience and have on the other side of town. Mostly, he seems worried about appearing out of touch with the Southside to the point where he is out of touch because he's so in his own head about it. (Like not realizing Tommy is messing with him? Earlier seasons Lip would have been savvier and messed with Tommy right back.)

Even when he's at Patsy's with his family, Lip doesn't really get to just be and relax. He has to be in big-brother fix-it mode: Debbie being mopey because her friends don't talk to her; calling Frank out when he's out of line with Fiona; worrying about Ian not seeing a doctor... He's not relaxed even if it's maybe a more familiar (no pun intended) type of discomfort. He's just comes home and has to suddenly put out a half dozen fires.

And then Fiona and Lip go see Mickey as Lip suggested. It seems like the first genuine laugh we get from him all episode. The first time he lets his guard down a bit?

Beyond laughing because, "lol Mickey and his antics", it reads to me as Lip finally being happy to be here. Like this is the kind of Southside shenanigans he understands and can enjoy watching play out. It's a moment of, "Yeah. I'm home." Yk?

It's one of my favourite Lip and Mickey moment.

Sometimes he wonders how he managed to bag such a sweet ray of sunshine. Always smiling, always chipper. The exact opposite.

Maybe that's why Dora put them on the same shift all those months ago. Ian's sunny-ness to counteract Mickey’s doom and gloom.

‘Can I get your number to go with that?’ the asshole on the other side of the counter grins.

He clenches his jaw. Ignores the vortex in his stomach.

‘Sorry, got a boyfriend.’

Prompt and final. The asshole retreats with a resigned smile. The vortex vanishes.

‘Sorry,’ Ian whispers.

He shrugs, smiles softly.

‘You’re a catch, Red.’
