God, it's so exhausting when people ask, "Why are you doing that fic thing?"

Like—it's a hobby. It brings me joy. And then comes the kicker: "But why let people read it for free?"

At that point, I just want to give them the finger.

Not everything needs to be monetized. Not everything has to be a side hustle. Some things exist just because we love them. Some of us still do things for the joy of it, for the community, for the art of sharing something that isn’t trying to sell you anything.

That should be enough.

Fanfic is a free hobby.

It's one of the last few things we can have as a society that's free. You can engage, for free. People give you things (art, stories, etc), for free.

Don't buy into the consummerism just because it's everywhere else.

You don't have to consume everything you interact with. You don't have to use things, just because they exist.

You're allowed (still, for now), to have things that are enjoyable for free.

Do you realise how insane the world is? We don't have many places where we can just be, for free anymore, but ao3 is. Did you notice we don't have ads in ao3? We don't have pop ups? Where ELSE do we not have that?

Where else can you just go and not have to wait for a commercial to be over or for ads to be on the sidelines?

I don't think the younger people understand, but the whole of internet used to be like this. YouTubers would do Youtube for free, just because. You couldn't monetise your internet presence before.

Ao3 is like a little preserved corner of the internet where the old internet used to be, and it's being attacked by people who do not understand that free things are allowed to exist without judgment.

Please don't ruin this for us.

Just a few days ago, I stumbled across the etheral young Edward Furlong, I mean, can you say it to my face that this face, this vibe, is not Tom Riddle himself walking out of the Harry Potter saga? Especially when he is around 13-15, I mean Christian Coulson's Tom is great, very posh and smooth around the edges when he has his house in his palm, especially when he was 17. But Ed is sooooo fit when he's still a no-name new face in Slytherin. Unfortunately, Dumberdore had looked at this and decided, well, this one is the same as his sweetheart Gellert =))). For Harry, I never consider anyone rather Dan; he is the one.

Hi, I was hoping you could help me find a recent tomione one-shot on Ao3 around 4-5k words. In it, T starts dreaming of H from the time he’s in Wool’s Orphanage. The story follows him through his years at Hogwarts, and there's also a 50-year time skip. I can’t remember the title, but it really stuck with me for its open ending and biblical undertones near the end. I also think the author isn’t that well-known, though they DESERVE all the attention.
