We went on a safari hoping to spot some wildlife. We found peace among the trees like nothing expected . Manas Wildlife Sanctuary is heavy frequented and one of the two UNESCO natural world heritage sites in Assam. Bordering Bhutan, the landscape across the national park is unique every few kilometres. On a quiet evening you may spot elephants , rhino, water buffalo , wild peacock , wild hens, barking deers among others, or no wildlife at all. Nonetheless, Manas offers something for every nature enthusiasts. The environment friendliness is also maintained by hotels and restaurants run nearby who try to avoid single use plastic. #manasnationalpark #unescoworldheritage #manas #assam #assamtourism #nationalpark #nationalparksofindia #northeastindia #northeasttourism #awesomeassam (at Manas Wildlife Sanctuary) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZHxftkPwvR/?utm_medium=tumblr

Quite unique , unexpectedly accessible . Dhuandhar waterfalls is named so because water falling through these marble stones creates a smoke like affect. Try to go for the boat ride when you plan a trip here. #bhedaghat #dhuadharfalls #dhuadharwaterfall #marblestones (at Bhedaghat Dhuandhar Water Fall) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZB1cmqvgJR/?utm_medium=tumblr

108 memorial stupas on the way from Thimphu to Punakha. These stupas or ‘chortens’ are made in honour of 108 Bhutanese soldiers fallen in battle against Assamese insurgents. This battle was also the first mission undertaken by Bhutan on its own. Apart from the Chortens, Docula also has a Lakhang( Bhuddist monastery) , a botanical park and on clear days , one can catch sight of panoramic views of Himalayan Mountain ranges. #dochula #dochulapass #bhutan #bhutantravel #warmemorial #himlayanmountains (at Dochula Pass) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTUgDwXlEub/?utm_medium=tumblr

Khajjiar was delightfully brought to everyone’s notice when the then Swiss envoy called it as “Mini Switzerland”, owing to its topographical resemblance with Switzerland. Located 20kms away from Dalhousie , Khajjiar is a dreamy little place with thick Deodar and pine forestation , a picture perfect saucer shaped lake that is covered in snow in winters, great trekking paths with rewarding views. Khajjiar lake has become a hotspot for adventure sports like paragliding and Zorbing during summer months. On clear days , you can catch glimpses of Pir Panjal range from here. Other places of interest nearby are Kalatop National Park , Dainkund peak (can catch view of Mani Mahesh peak from here). With prior permissions can also visit one of the many apple farms around Khajjiar. Visit Khajjiar for its unique topography , experience the warmth of people and humble culture of the place. #khajjiar #himachalpradesh #himachalpradeshtourism #himachaltourism #miniswitzerland #miniswitzerlandofindia #khajjiar_mini_switzerland😍 #dhauladharrange (at khajjiar(Dalhousie),Himachal pradesh) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS1yhjEl-N3/?utm_medium=tumblr

Second highest plunge waterfall in India after Nohkalikai falls in Meghalaya , Jog falls are a tourist favourite. During the peak of monsoon, Jog is a sight to behold. During non-peak seasons, visitors are allowed to go down to the viewing point, going down 1400 steps for a better and closer look of the falls. #jogfalls #jogfallskarnataka #waterfallsofindia #india #karnataka #shimoga #shimogatourism #karnatakatourism (at Jog Falls-ಜೋಗ ಜಲಪಾತ) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSmeE_mFurj/?utm_medium=tumblr

“When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrow, we gave our today” - Kohima Epitaph ( by John Maxwell Edwards) Until the time we visited Kohima memorial for World War II martyrs, I had no knowledge of India being ground zero during WWII. India was right in the middle of action, a pivotal one at that. Battles of Kohima and Imphal are the first ones that Japanese had lost since their involvement in WWII had begun. In 1944, Japanese launched the U-Go offensive ( in tandem with Ha Go) to overthrow British Empire in north east India( & possibly in whole of India) to capture the strategically important Kohima ridge and thus also lower morale of British Army. But the geography being harsh and unsuitable for war, along with Japanese’s lack of knowledge with such terrain combined with poor strategic planning had stacked the odds against them. British army, including the newly formed Assam regiment, took help of local tribes who knew the area like back of their hand, to defeat the Japanese troops and made them retreat. The battle is said to be more savage than any others seen in WWII, as at times the fighting came down to hand-to-hand, owing to lack of supplies on both sides. Both sides were so close during seize of Garrison Hill ( Current Kohima Cemetery) that they were trenched on two sides of tennis ground. Over 1400 soldiers have been martyred in these battles that lasted nearly three months. Kohima war cemetery is a memorial for all those who had lost their lives during these battles. It still baffles me why such a defining historic event was not a part of my history curriculum. And it still is largely forgotten in the mainstream . Let us know in the comments, If you knew about these battles , or any other WWII involvement of India that is often overlooked. #kohimawarcemetery #kohimaworldwar2 #kohimaworldwariicemetery #worldwar2 #worldwar2memorial #kohima #nagaland #imphal #battleofkohima (at Kohima World War ll Cemetery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSXVKGPhXi2/?utm_medium=tumblr

Don’t worry be Hampi !!! Hampi has an indescribable positive and chilled out vibe to it. Once the capital of Vijayanagara Empire, Hampi was noted as a prosperous, wealthy and grand city near Tungabhadra river. Hampi was attacked , defeated, pillaged and ruined in 16th century by a coalition of invading Muslim conquerors. Even these ruins today are an amazement for all who visit. Hampi and surrounding areas are now recognised as World Heritage site. Every corner here looks like it has a secret to tell. Try and visit Hampi once to experience art , culture and life of the then Vijayanagara people through these ruins. Stone chariot in the picture is located in Vijaya Vittala Temple of Hampi, notice the intricate artwork. #hampi #stonechariot #vijayavittalatemple #templesofhampi #karnataka #karnatakatourism #hampitourism #vijayanagaraempire #dontworrybehampi (at Stone Chariot, Hampi) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSRydLNlcIE/?utm_medium=tumblr
