Holly was a teenager at some point forever ago, she probably worked a service or retail job or two somewhere in Haven. So I'd like to think that he would have mentioned some percieved slight at the hands of a service worker to her in passing (like he seems to do with things he's miffed about) and she absolutely tore him apart for it. After that he'd probably still be irritable, but for the most part understanding.
