The Favour

Chapter 1

pairing: bob reynolds x original character

summary: Bob Reynolds cannot cotnrol his powers. He doesn't even want to try, because what if he hurts someone. Lucky for him Bucky knows the perfect teacher for him.

When Mary Wilson got the call from Bucky Barnes, she didn’t know why he was calling. Was it to explain his fight with Sam? Since the New Avengers have been made official it was tense at the house. Normally the house would be filled with sounds of laughter, but after Joaquins accident there was nothing to laugh at. She missed him making fun of her or of Sam - or of Bucky - or pulling pranks with him. Since they met he felt like an older brother to her. And she missed him. He was recovering, but you could tell he still had a long road ahead of him.

Sam also had more meetings with Ross than usual after the announcement. He usually left early in the morning and came back late at night exhausted. This is also one of the reasons why May is angry at Bucky. Sam was so excited when Ross told him that he wanted to bring the Avengers back. And then a couple of weeks later they saw Bucky with 6 other people on the television. The New Avengers.

She immediately recognised John Walker, whom she fought against with Bucky. And now he was standing right next to him. Holding the Captain America shield. It wasn’t actually the real shield - Sam had the real one - but it still hurt. Infront of them stood Yelena Belova. Natasha’s sister. Natasha told her about her when they were on the run. She told her about their childhood, about how she thought that Yelena was free and how they met again. Natasha looked so happy talking about her little sister, finally save. This made May think about no, I don’t want to think about her. Natasha also told her about Alexei, the man who pretended to be their father before he gave them back to Dreykov. And now he was standing next to Yelena. May couldn’t understand why he was an Avenger or why Yelena was talking and working with him. The two others she didn’t recognise, but she was sure that she would see them on the television after that. 

Why did Bucky leave us to be with them? After the phone rang for another couple times she picked up the phone and for a while there was no sound coming from the other line. And then- “Hey ki- May”, he paused “how have you been?”

“Good. Why are you calling?” She knew that her sharp answer probably hurt him, but just for this moment she didn’t care. What else did he expect from her after no contact for two months.

“Listen, I know you probably don’t want to hear from me now, but I need your help”

She was silent. Was the only reason for him calling her for help? Three months ago she would not have a problem with that. She would do almost anything for her family. Was he still family? 

After she didn’t answer he went on. “We have this guy here, his name is Bob. I don’t know if you saw what happened in New York a couple weeks ago” Everybody knew that something happened in New York, but nobody knows what caused it. May thought it was another alien attack. But for an alien attack it was very short. As quickly as it started it quickly ended. The people of New York suddenly started to disappear and a dark shadow flew in the sky. 

“So…, will you come?” 

“What?” She spaced out and didn’t hear anything that Bucky said. 

“Could you come back to the tower?”

That made her stop. Come back to the tower? May had been there almost ten years ago - well ,for her it would be more like five years but it hurt just as much. 

Even though she was still mad at Bucky, May knew that eventually she would help him. Afterall she still owed him, and probably owed him for the rest of her life. Because that is what May owed him. Her life.

The call ended shortly after she agreed to help him. He sounded relieved and May felt bad, that at first she didn’t even want to pick up the phone. She felt bad for him, because he wouldn’t talk to them but also no one would talk to him. May and Sam lost -atleast it felt for them as though they lost him- only one person while Bucky lost both of them. For the last couple years there wasn’t a day where they wouldn’t talk and now they hadn’t any kind of contact for two months. These two months felt like a lifetime for her. 

They talked a little more about when she was supposed to come - he first insisted on picking her up but she wasn’t sure that was a good idea - and where she would stay. Bucky told her that she could stay in her old room. Her old room. She loved that room. It was her second real home - the first one being Sam’s little house where she and her stayed. Don’t think about her. 

She wouldn’t lie - she missed the tower. Or maybe not the tower itself, but the people she lived there with. Most of them were dead by now. Tony and Natasha died before she could say goodbye to them. Or just see them. They both survived the snap, unlike May. She often wondered what kind of life they had after the snap. Was is better? She knew Tony lived happily ever after with his family. Natasha on the other hand lived in the compound. While the others who survived gave up and tried to move on, she stayed. She did what she was born to do - help others. Even though May knew she couldn’t do anything to change it, she still felt guilty - or maybe it was grief -that Natasha stayed at the compound and helped others and that she died while getting the stone. After the battle Clint told her how she died. She didn’t talk much to Clint after that, but then she never really talked with him. He lived neither at the tower nor in the compound. For him it was really just a job after which he could go back to his family. And when he was with them he spent his time with Wanda and Natasha. This didn’t bother May as she also spent most of her time alone, or with Sam, Steve and her.

Now she only had to find a way to tell Sam that she had to go back to New York, to their old home. May knew that Sam probably wouldn’t have a problem with that. After all, she is twentyseven years old and not a kid anymore. But she still felt guilty that by going to the tower she was cheating on Sam. That by going there she was choosing Bucky, even though she knew Sam longer.

She was sitting at the dinner table when she heard the door open. Immediately she stood up and went to Sam. He was carrying a stack of paper which she quickly took from him and put on the table. 

‘Hey kiddo, how’ve you been, mhm?” He had dark bags under his eyes and you could see the tension in his shoulders. She felt even worse having to leave now. 

“Yeah. yeah uh… good.” Sam could already see there was something bothering her. It was like a sixth sense. This time she couldn’t even look at him. 

“Hey, what’s wrong? Something happen’?” 

“Bucky called.”

“Oh. What did he want?” Sam didn’t have an idea why Bucky would call. But he also didn’t understand why he didn’t want to talk to them. After the announcement Sam tried to call him. At first he was angry. He told Bucky that Ross asked him to bring back the Avengers. No, something was wrong, Bucky wouldn’t do this to him. Sam started researching who this Valentina was. 

After he realised that she was behind all of this he could relax for a minute. It may sound absurd but Sam felt as if Bucky betrayed him. It was devastating. But the New Avengers were still a problem. For Ross at least. Ross told Sam that he had to sue them. Because they would be the Avengers and not a group of vigilantes. Sam knew that Ross was a stubborn man and wouldn’t let this go. But this whole situation was tiring. Not only was Ross not letting him go before he finished it, Joaquin was still in recovery and Bucky was not with him. He was his rock and now he is gone. Sam doesn’t understand why Bucky won’t pick up his calls. But when May says that Bucky called her, he feels hope. Maybe the ship didn’t sink. Maybe there was a chance for them to coexist.

“He asked me to come back to the tower. Apparently there is a guy who needs help controlling his powers.” She still looked nervous telling him that. She looked like a little kid. It reminded him when they first met all those years ago.

“Well, are you going to go?”

“Yeah.” She tried looking for a sign of anger or disappointment on his face. But she didn’t find any.

“Okey, is that why you are nervous?” A small smile started to form on his face.

“I thought you would be angry with me, you know, going to him.”

“Oh honey. You are a grown woman and even if I wasn’t supportive of your decision you could still go. It is after all your decision. I think Juoaquin will be quite angry with you leaving him with nothing to do here”, Sam said making air quotes. They both knew how he could be. He always needed to do something.

May walked around the table and hugged him. She felt relieved that she could still confess her fears to him. 

But the hard part was just beginning. She hasn’t used her powers in a while. And teaching someone to control his powers, that is going to be a challenge. This and living in the tower again.

First fanfic

I am currently writing the first part of my fanfiction. I am a big fan of Sambucky and while there are many fanfics about them I can't find one where they have a kid. Kinda like Tony and Peter if you know what I mean. So I decided on writing one. I have made my OC years ago and have been looking for a ff with a similiar plot which I have thought of but could not find any, So I am writing one. It takes places between the 14 months in Thunderbolts and will have Bob as the love interest. I still don't know, how many chapters there are going to be but I also plan to make a seperate ff about my OC backstory, as it won't really be explained in this one. It would take place between the first avengers film and thunderbolts. I will probably post that one also on Wattpad. I hope you will enjoy it!
