So I'm currently in Season 3 of Sg1 and I have been hit with another difference between Sg1 and Atlantis.

The SGC is a job. Atlantis is home.

Don't get me wrong, the sg1 team is pack bonded and absolutely feral about each other. They are family. They are friends. They are also coworkers. They commute to the sgc. They have houses and apartments and lives outside of the stargate program. (Well, some of them do.) They get paid, go on vacations, and get benefits. In the end, this is a job. A job you love, with people you would die for, at a place that could be a second home, but a job.

Atlantis is a home first and a job second. They live there. They fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping against the piers of Atlantis. They go for runs in the catwalks. There's a chess club, a mensa chapter, an outdoors club, they go fishing and play volleyball together. They go for dates in the cafeteria, have Atlantis movie nights, and meet up for breakfast. They're a tight knit community.

The SGC is also a military base and it shows, it's barren and impersonal, there are a few exceptions to this, like Daniel having a picture of Sha're on his desk, but for the most part there's little to no personalization. Even the lighting is often very sterile and military. Again, there's exceptions, like the often warm and yellow lighting used in Daniel's office, but the hallways are all extremely sterile. (There's something to be said for the way that Daniel is most often the one breaking up the uniform and military vibes of the base, but that's another post)

Atlantis, on the other hand, is heavily personalized. They hang posters on their walls, they have golf clubs, art supplies, and remote control cars. There's dirty clothes on the floor of their quarters, a mini fridge tucked into the corner, and books left open on their beds. There's something so familiar and comfortable about Atlantis. A sense of belonging that doesn't come across as much as in Sg1.

Honestly, I think it comes back to how militarized the SGC is and how civilian Atlantis is. The vibe is less found family military heroes and more Atlantis is a home to the lost and the broken.

Guys why the fuck are able bodied people like this.

A family friend (don't know her too well) tried to hug me as she was leaving, and I politely tried asking her not to because 1) I'm in pain and 2) my spine is deteriorating due to a chemo drug. I really mean it when I say you can't hug me. But this bitch just went "no I'm gonna hug you" and shook me around and squeezed me like a dish towel while I was trying to push her off, and now a section of my spine and ribs is so fucked up I can't bend it and it really hurts. She literally injured me just because she couldn't take no for a fucking answer.

Like. This is why I have learned helplessness. This is why I give up so easily. At some point, having boundaries and asserting yourself and communicating your needs doesn't do jack fucking shit, because if people want to, they can overpower you and physically harm you in the process anyway. For nothing.

And this is why I don't buy people saying "it's YOUR responsibility to enforce your boundaries; just asking for something isn't a boundary <3." Because I physically can't. Most disabled people physically can't. A person in a wheelchair can't "enforce" someone not touching their chair. Yeah, after it happens, they can maybe avoid that person in the future as a way to "remove that person's access" to the wheelchair user. But at that point, assault has already been committed and it's not about boundaries anymore. It's about human fucking rights. "Don't assault me" is not a fucking boundary. It's an able bodied person's trigger word.

bbc merlin is a fun silly show that begs the question what if you were given a destiny you didn’t understand and you betrayed yourself time and time again in what you think is a selfless act of love that will serve a greater purpose, only for that to be the exact reason you fail and the undoing of the person you love most. and then the random filler episodes are like this witch is doing terrorism in camelot by sneaking magic mushroom bombs into the soup and merlin has to gaslight arthur into thinking he doesn’t like mushrooms or something idk

Ok so I was at a pride event recently and I have to tell y'all this story. So my partner was taking a picture for our friends and I was waiting like, a foot away behind him in my wheelchair. Context for this is I wear a mask everywhere I go because being sick is very very bad for me and it takes all the energy I have to fight it off.

A woman came up to me, very closely I might add, and asked me why I was wearing it. I didn't feel like explaining my medical problems to a random person so I said "germs". This lady proceeded to try and convince me not to wear it because I'm "so pretty" and "germs are good for you". I said "I know my body, I'm good thanks." She just kept saying shit and I just kept saying no thanks. Eventually my partner and friends finished and came over and she finally backed off but it was like, wtf????

Why does anyone care if I wear a mask, I am hurting no one.

Otherwise it was a fun time except for the copious amount of people I almost ran over with my chair because they suddenly backed up as I was going past them. (Please look where you're going, I will try not to run over you but my chair is powered and 400lbs, you will lose in that collision.)

Also, happy note, I got to traverse a city for the first time in a long time because of my new chair, it was very freeing
