🍂lesson of day 7: we, therians, know we are human!

a very common thing that people tell us is that we are humans. and we are aware of it. we've always been

but we identify as the animals we have similar behaviors to. that's the whole point! it's not complicated, and I don't know why so many non-therians don't get it.

the idea is, that even tho we act like animals (well, non human animals.), it doesn't mean we think we're physically animals.

🍂lesson of day 6: quizzes can't really help you on finding your theriotype!

this is not really the kind of lesson I'm used to doing, but I think it had to be said

being a therian is about your own personal experiences, experiences that no one else could know. when you do a quiz, it's clear that not all of the experiences can be put in it, and a lot of important stuff get left out!

the thing is, that a lot of these quizzes also spread misinformation, like 'all therians have past lives' or 'theriantrophy is about connections" (I've seen these examples SO much)

so, when you do such a quiz, you could be told that you are a therian, even though you aren't, because, let's say, you like to run and stay outside;

or you could be told you aren't a therian, when you are, because your experiences werent included!

i can and can't blame the people that make these quizzes; on one side, it's not their fault that they can't add everything in one quiz, but on the other side, they are putting misinformation on the web, situation in which they are definetly at fault.

this was a longer one, but I really don't want the people that question being therians to be fooled.

🍂lesson of day 5: therianthropy doesn't equal a connection with a certain animal.

being a therian has its base on your personal experiences, and not what animal you like, what animal you have, what animal looks pretty to you and others like this.

of course, on some occasions, it happens that the therian does have a connection with their certain animal, but if they didn't have the unwanted experiences, then only the connection would not make them a therian.

i see this misconception happen very often, and I mean very very often.

after a whole night of intense research, I've come to the conclusion I'm a silver fox! (which yes, is technically a shade of red foxes, and are abt 10% of the red fox population)

BUT IM HAPPY!! BECAUSE SILVER FOXES REALLY MATCH MY HABITS SO WELL<33

🍂lesson of day 4: you don't have to wear gear to be a therian!

this is probably known by most therians, but I think it still has to be said

even though gear is a way to connect with your theriotype, you don't have to wear it to actually be a therian!

gear is pretty hard to make and it takes dedication, of course you can buy it but sometimes they are expensive (but it's still good to support the artist for their hard work!!)

so, if you dont have the skills to make gear or don't afford to buy it, you don't need to wear it! that's not what therianthropy is about <3

I've come to the conclusion that I'm probably not a dhole because they aren't highly territorial.. can't relate

i considered arctic foxes for a second but then remembered they are active all the time, but as I said I'm a night owl

so these two naturally go away

fennec fox's live in desert habitats, which don't fit me a lot because I prefer cold, forest areas (like the one i currently live in+ I hate hot weather so much)

ive been noticing how I have more experiences that are animalistic, but they don't fit my cat identity.

the problem is, I'm not quite sure what animal they do fit, so I hope that if I list them here, some very experienced therian will help me find out:

•im very determined to build dens everywhere I can and use scent markers

•often times when I get shifts, I dig a lot (this feels like a canine of some sorts? cats can also dig, but this feels a little more than that)

•I mostly prefer night time to be active (this could also be cat behaviour, but they are active night and day when they aren't sleeping)

•when I'm scared, I do a little squeak sound. I don't even realize it until people point it out to me

•when I shift, I get very playful and energic

thats kind of all that's coming to mind right now exept the behaviours that I characterized as a cat before

does anyone have any idea of what this theriotype could be? or do you think it's just cat behaviour branching?

🍂lesson of day 3: you cannot choose to be a therian.

as I've probably noted in earlier posts, being a therian consists of having involuntary experiences that are alike to the instincts of specific animals. so, that being said, you either are a therian, or aren't one.

of course, just because you aren't one, doesn't mean you can't support people that are, in fact, therians. it's already pretty hard for us because being an alterhuman in general is quite annoying sometimes, because of species dysphoria, random shifts etc.

but the idea is, you can't just choose to be a therian. It's an involuntary thing, and people who are therians really appreciate when people respect their identity and don't try to turn themselves in something they aren't.

🍂lesson of day 2: you don't need to do quads to be a therian!

even from my experience, I can say that quads are quite the exercise! I mean, I've only started actually doing quads for maybe like 11 months and I have well built muscles from it

the idea is, not every therian wants to or can do quads! some can't do them because of disabilities (I really don't want this community to forget that we are very diverse, and that they shouldn't just think a person is abled just because they are a therian!) or they simply don't want to, and that's completely fine!

being a therian is about the involuntary experiences you have, and quads are nothing more than a hobby!

🍂lesson of day 1: not all therians believe they have a past life that they lived as their theriotype!

it is actually quite rare for us, therians to feel that! but those that do believe often times have a kind of shift that bring back their specific memories from the past life. these can even include how they died!

if you do think you have a past life, then you can always open up about it to the community and we will 100% support you!
