the thunderbolts are made up of broken people. they’re awful, terrible people who we— as an audience— have grown to love so fiercely because we have seen their journey and seen the good that they can possess when given the right opportunities. they know they’re broken, may joke about their broken past, and have come to believe that they cannot undo the bad that they have caused with doing good. bucky is the only one who has really gone on a journey of self discovery as we’ve seen unfold in tfatws, but his internal battles are still very unfinished.
seeing marvel touch on mental health struggles and the impact they have on your being was phenomenal. because they’re not awful, terrible people. they’re people who push down their emotions. they’re people who keep everything inside. they’re people who are alone and lonely.
you can find solace in a group of people who you don’t know (or particularly like). you can find a sense of belonging somewhere you never thought was possible. in a split second, you can make a good choice and be a good person. you can fight off the dark thoughts, find hope, and carry on in a way that brings the light. you can be a bob. in a world full of darkness, be a bob.

i think one of the best things about matt murdock as a character throughout born again is his refusal to accept that he is inherently good. what is good? what is bad? how do we determine good and bad? matt thinks he’s a bad person. he thinks he can become better through throwing away the mask, only because he sees the mask as something that isn’t bringing justice to the greater good of the people. he couldn’t save foggy with the mask— he couldn’t bring a greater good to the person who mattered most in his life— so why wear it?
then you look at the way fisk views himself. a man of change, a man reformed, a man who views himself as good because he so terribly wants to believe it. he puts on a performance for himself through the “activism” he chooses, but he knows it’s a game. it always has been. but the definition of good is different in his eyes in comparison to matt.
throughout the entire case of hector ayala, he is positioned to the audience as someone who is good and that’s something we know right from the jump. because he is good. but how can someone who thinks they’re inherently bad (matt) convince people of good? and that’s where his internal struggle is so prominent. he knows the definition of good. he’s a goddamn lawyer. but he positions himself in such a negative way, allowing his emotions to take over the way he views the world as a whole.
foggy is dead. daredevil is dead. hector ayala is dead. karen isn’t speaking to him. fisk is mayor. the one who has to whip you into shape is fucking frank castle and the only thing left of you is an ounce of your religion and a shred of hope that the justice system can work. and you believe things can get better, you believe in a higher being, you believe in the good that can come from bad things, but you don’t believe in yourself. because the world is a fucked place, and you’re one more fucked up thing in the world that cant seem to get clean.
foggy’s blood stains the ground, he want to be good for him, and yet blood still stains his hands. he just doesn’t know: is daredevil’s justice good?

and i think the best thing about brave new world is sam’s authenticity. he’s always been such a down to earth character and someone who strives to be a genuinely good person, but that is shown so heavily throughout this entire film. he wants to do his best, not for him, but in order to give hope to everyone else. he sees the good in people even when he probably shouldn’t. he cares about the ones that are close to him. he makes stupid jokes and is sarcastic around literally everyone because he just wants to build connections and make others comfortable. sam is always having these internal struggles of not living up to steve’s legacy and regretting not taking the serum for himself, but that’s why he’s the perfect person for this job. he’s literally just some guy. he’s just a person, like every other person, and he fights for the good that he sees in others. he gives his all in order to build hope for all. steve knew that. bucky knows that. and the world should see that. sam wilson will always be my cap <33

What does third-act happiness look like for Steve? It always felt like it had to involve Peggy Carter. Peggy’s home for Steve and that’s why in a lot of ways that movie [“Captain America: The First Avenger”], that original character, is kind of home for me. That’s the way I always will see the character. He has always been and always will be that little guy for me. That’s who [Cap] is.- Chris Evans
